This is an important message, Fr. Martin. All one has to do is look to the UA-cam comments to see how little this Christian message is heeded. Pax Christi!
It does not need to be a Christian message...it transcends any specific faith tradition. Or no faith tradition. The message is universal in my opinion.
LordDeliverUs Exactly. Give people who stand up for traditional marriage the benefit of the doubt by not calling them homophobic or assuming they are filled with hatred.
I am confused as to where Jesus says 'be kind'. Matthew 10:34 "Do not think that I have come to being peace to the earth, I have not come to bring peace, but a sword." Or where 'kindness' is postulated in the Gospel as being the center of Christian Faith. In my reading it seems Jesus says 'listen to the Word', 'repent and believe in the Gospel'' and above all don't blaspheme the Holy Spirit. In the Beatitudes he says 'Blessed are you when others revile you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account.' Which means that your belief will be challenged. And in the Golden Rule he says "You shall love your neighbors as yourself" which clearly is more about yourself than your neighbor. The center of the Christian Faith is 'BELIEVE' in Jesus as God on earth, God as One omnipotent creator and the Holy Spirit as the active force of God in the universe. NB*: St. Ignatius was a very troubled individual and what Jesuits put forth needs to always be scrutinized.
Thank you, Fr. Jim! These are great challenges for Lent and they really speak to transforming from within. God bless you! Hugs from St. Pete FL
