Just bought the jet-tone BC which was made after Bill Chase. I was playing on a Bach 3E but I still felt like I was being held back. It probably had to do with my teeth structure due to not having 2 sets of incisors. I have had to play with a retainer. When trying the jet-tone, it has made it a whole lot easier to play above the staff, and even middle and lower notes sound clearer with less force and less fatigue. Very nice choice for me!

I was a very talented player growing up but before going to New Orleans and making my mark, my wife got pregnant...Now at 58 getting back to it and still have my Al Hirt Special trumpet and my custom made Jet Tone 6A...I love the bright full tone I get with it not the foggier tone from mouthpieces like the Bach...I have thin lips so this mouthpiece is a fit for me, while my friend who had thick lips couldnt play on this if his life depended on it. Apparently the re-issue Jet tone mouthpieces dont have the 6 A configuration so I had my professionally touched up and re-silvered. Good work on your videos. I have subscribed.

Chris Jones at Schilke is making the latest classic Jet-Tone copies and they play pretty good actually. I have the Chase model and it's a REALLY good piece...the original Jet-Tone line began in 1959 by Ray Amado (yes, the same cat who designed the Amado water keys) and Bill Ratzenberger was a very good lead player and business partner. It was Ray though that came up w the unique concept of the convex cups, rims and backbores. It was Ray who made the custom pieces for Al Hirt, Doc, Snooky Young, Bill Chase, Charlie Shavers, etc. He had a rather unique way of making those pieces too...also, they were aluminum not brass and were heads and tails above other commercial pieces of the time. Ratzenberger took over the Co. at some point in 1971 and he's the guy who made pieces for Maynard, Dave Stahl, Lynn Nicholson & Roy Roman...

I used to play on the Dave Stahl model. Then I switched to the MF and pretty much played that from 1988 till this year for lead playing. Latterly I was on the MF-P which had a bigger throat. I haven't completely abandoned it but I am doing more lead playing on my Horntrader 3CS. It's not really a lead mouthpiece but it's a good compromise.

Your midrange sound is much better. Maybe you should a break in period of a month or so and then see what you think.

I do agree that your mid range sounds great on the Jet Tone. I actually played a Schilke 24 for years. I could never get a good tone out of that tiny thing (Big Lips). I did have a friend with thin lips who really did well on one. I now use a Schilke 18. Something smaller. Lol

The re issue Jet Tone is not the same as the several Jet Tone mpcs I bought on e bay several years ago at great clearance prices for trumpet ,cornet and flugelhorn including an Al Hirt model. The old jet tones are great for my playing and better than famous brand mpcs.

He’s right, the old ones had a different owner and were actually pretty good, a lot better than the new ones.

Curt , you seems to stress to remain + on center on this mpc even in mid range . Thanks . thinking of the advice on the 3 E to replace my Schilke 14b I have a few other mpcs with smaller diameter rims and find it much easier to hit upper registers . though some of the fullness of tones is not there, yet the pitch is much better low to mid. The 14b was cut for sleeves yet from 4.5 to 5.5 to 7 sleeve does little to improve intonation on low range. this is, on the practice Stuff and the Standards .

Quick question Bro. If I went to a Schilke can you give me a comparison MPC. to the Bach 3E? I will try both but value your expertise and advice. I have heard the quality control of the Bachs can be inconsistant . Kind of a Schilke MPC loyalist but could change I deal with MPC Express and they have been fair with me . I live close enough drive to the store . I know... i know ..... Could I help ?? I'm not affiliated in any way and expect nothing in return from them or you . Just for the love of music and brass . Regards

I don't have a comparison chart, but I bet Schilke or some other mouthpiece company may. Hopefully you can find one.
