From their fourth album. " Arrival "
Recorded August 1975 thru September 1976.
Released on October 11th, 1976.
Written and produced by Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson.
My Love My Life:
Bakcing track and vocals recorded on August 20, 1976 (Metronome Studio).
String overdubs added on August 30, 1976 (Metronome Studio).
The ballad 'My Love My Life' with lyrics by Stig Anderson was originally titled 'Monsieur, Monsieur' and a rough demo with Agnetha singing had been recorded in the studio in July. The theme of the lyrics, with Paris as the setting for a romance that is now over., would later be echoed in the 1980 track 'Our Last Summer', complete with "walks along the Seine". However, the' French feel' that the group had seemed to detect in this song, was somehow deemed irrelevant, and a slower backing track in a lower key better suited to Agnetha's voice was recorded on August 20. The dreamy, whispering backing choir was inspired by 10CC classis 'I'm Not In Love', which had recently been a big hit.
Charlotte Perrelli (born Anna Jenny Charlotte Nilsson on October 7, 1974, in Hovmantorp, Kronobergs län, Sweden) is a Swedish singer and occasional television host, perhaps most famous for winning the 1999 Melodifestivalen and subsequently that year's Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Take Me to Your Heaven". Since then she has released six singles and five albums. Perrelli once again won Melodifestivalen 2008 and represented Sweden in Eurovision Song Contest 2008 with her disco song "Hero". She is one of Sweden's most popular female singers, often performing at Sweden's top shows. Throughout her career, she has worked with different types of music, ranging from dansband and schlager, via modern pop, to soulful ballads and jazz melodies.
Perrelli is married to Stockholm-based Italian restaurateur Nicola Ingrosso, brother of Emilio Ingrosso who was married to another Swedish singer Pernilla Wahlgren in the 1990s. Following a feud with the rest of the family, Charlotte and Nicola decided to change both of their last names to Perrelli. They reside in Stockholm with their two sons. In June 2008 the couple officially announced that they were taking a break in their relationship. It had been speculated for some time in the Swedish media that their relationship was on the rocks. It is believed that Charlotte's heavy workload was a contributing factor to the couple's split. This was later denied by both Nicola and Charlotte, the couple stated they was just taking a break from each other but were still very much in love.
My Love, My Life
(Benny Andersson / Björn Ulvaeus / Stig Anderson)
I've seen it on your face
Tells me more than any worn-out old phrase
So now we'll go separate ways
Never again we two
Never again, nothing I can do
Like an image passing by, my love, my life
In the mirror of your eyes, my love, my life
I can see it all so clearly
(See it all so clearly)
Answer me sincerely
(Answer me sincerely)
Was it a dream, a lie?
Like reflections of your mind, my love, my life
Are the words you try to find, my love, my life
But I know I don't possess you
So go away, God bless you
You are still my love and my life
Still my one and only
I've watched you look away
Tell me is it really so hard to say?
Oh, this has been my longest day
Sitting here close to you
Knowing that maybe tonight we're through
Like an image passing by, my love, my life
In the mirror of your eyes, my love, my life
I can see it all so clearly
(See it all so clearly)
Answer me sincerely
(Answer me sincerely)
Was it a dream, a lie?
Like reflections of your mind, my love, my life
Are the words you try to find, my love, my life
But I know I don't possess you
So go away, God bless you
You are still my love and my life
Yes I know I don't possess you
So go away, God bless you
You are still my love and my life
Still my one and only
thanks for posting. nice voice , close to Great great Agnetha
What a beautiful blend of the past and present,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,love, Christian
It´s very interesting to see how the abba sound is so conected with the original voices and the special way the had of producing the records. This kind of magic dissapears when it is sung by others, and in the other hand you will not find it in any of the Agnetha or frida solo recordings. This is probably one of the reasons why they are still around. In this song (the original) it is pretty amazing how sentimental and plaintive the voice sound without belting out the notes in a "drama" way.
Yep, extremely talented & very beautiful.
It is in my top 3 Abba songs EVER that's why it is just perfection!
Love this song thank u it is perfection from the opening and for the entire 4 minutes sigh .....
I liked both versions. I had never heard of Charlotte before. Thanks, Jim! Great job!
great song, beautiful pictures (as always) Tricia xxxx
Oh yes the original is simply spine tingling oooooooooooooooooooh...
Although there's nothing like the magic of Agnetha's voice in the original song, this really does illustrate the timelessness of Abba's music and Benny & Bjorn's incredible song writing talent.
Nice video and interesting to hear the 2 versions together :-) Thanks for posting.
Oh how i agree with you!
She did, it's a lovely modern version and shouldn't be compared to the original (very tough act to follow, yes!). I think ppl need to listen as if they are hearing it for the first time, as it really shows off the beautiful and timeless song that it is, and the talent of the song writers.
Agnetha forever!!!!
This was great my friend, I love Charlotte very much, she did a great job with a wonderful song.
Love from Norway
Carina
Another great job Jim. Definitely more emotion in Aggy's version though, Talking of side by sides I liked the Swedish Christmas Carol you did with Aggy and Frida.Happy St Paddy's day on Tuesday.
very very nice. This has always been one of my favorite ABBA songs. It has a quality to take you away with it and the blending of the two singers is fabulous. As though they recorded it in the same studio. Thanks, Christian
Oh, I think your idea was great. This comparison is very illustrative. You learn more about the factors that made ABBA so good.
Beautiful video Jim ! only you and you tube can fool with your setting,s I thought.Jim It is your site how can anyone get into it !! I am having problems posting text comments on all the sites Half the time after I write them there not there when I go back to check on them! I have to write 3 comment and still the problem is there Any suggestting what i should try Thank,s Jim love this video it is different Rick
I think this is happening a lot cos it is to me!Hopefully YT will sort it out ASAP :0)
Hey Jim. The share seems to be working now. I think, like Shay, Agnetha has more emotion in her delivery on this song. Charlotte is good, but... Nice job as usual.
"Celestial. This combination of songwriting, singing and even sound-engineering talent (Michael B Tretow) might never be seen again.
Remove one or more of the pieces, and it's only marvellous (like "Mamma Mia"). "
Wrote the above commentary on your video "Agnetha Fältskog - My love my life". This comparison video further proves my case. Charlotte P. is a career robot, not at all the sensitive singer you need for this song.
Interesting version by Charlotte Jim,but for me it lacks the heart wrenching emotion of Agnethas voice..33 years on and it is "still my one and only" version for me.Cheers..
Charlotte is good
but
Agnetha is n. 1!!!!!
