When Pierce=Arrow folded that V-12 engine was used, with some modifications, by Seagrave (Bickle Seagrave in Canada) including fitting dual ignition, in fire engines for many years well into the 1850s.

A shame the man didn't know much about this absolute jewel of a car, but other comments have pretty much spoken for me on that topic! The Silver Arrow is truly the Mona Lisa of automobiles. One of the most beautiful amd visually appealing vehicles ever! It's a shock to learn that such a beautiful car was put together in such a short period of time, plus with all the arguments between the car's designer and the engineers. Truly a marvel of the art deco period and a true showing of American craftsmanship from such a bygone age. I'd do just about anything to own one myself, I'd even settle for a driving replica! It's a high shame there isn't more videos or media covering this truley beautiful and last push from Pierce Arrow to keep their brand alive in such a financially devastating time. I hear they even had speedometers in the back of the front seats so the lucky person being chauffeured in one of these moving art pieces can keep an eye on her speed! (Much to the dismay of the poor driver, I'd imagine). Did you notice or any other features you couldn't catch on camera? Apologies for my soap opera of a comment, but the Silver Arrow has always been one of my favorite cars. Hopefully one day you can have a sequel video or something alike! Always happy with your content, Lou.

Lou, thanks for the opportunity to see and hear this beauty. FWIW, the design was penned by a great but little-known stylist, Phil Wright. He worked for Walter Murphy, then for Roy Faulkner at Cord, where he designed the stunning '32 LA Show Cord L29 speedster at age 25. He followed Faulkner to Pierce in Buffalo, NY, where he executed this design. Since Pierce was owned by Studebaker, he then moved to South Bend, where the prototype (and later production) Silver Arrow bodies were built, if I'm not mistaken. Wright later moved on to Briggs Mfg. Very interesting guy.

Of course there are the Duesenberg, Cord 810 , or the great seller like Corvettes or Ford T , and muscle cars. But that... that is one of the best design, so typically art, deco, incredibly luxurious, a great engine moreover. Fabulous car, thanks for this one.

The streamlined era for cars reached their peak in 1939. The same went for streamlined diesel locomotives for passenger trains but in 1938 with the E 1 of the Santa Fe. It had the headlight recessed into the nose under the center of the windshield. 1939 the succeeding locomotives had their headlights protruding on the nose.

The 1933 Pierce-Arrow is over the moon, a real beauty. The V-12 looks like a flat head and sounds good. Steven Murphy is a charming curator and car presenter. The art-deco streamlined styling is aggressive, it's not like any other car have seen and a joy to look at.

Four comments, for the price of one: 1 - Some 20 - 30 years after this was built, it was one of the...are you ready for this? It's pretty exciting, take a big breath - one of the 50(?) cars featured in the Jello Car Wheels, or maybe Car Coins collection, one "wheel" coming in each package of Jello. I had a few, but maybe not the Silver Arrow. 2 - My Uncle Harry had a 34 PA V12 , the only memory of which stays with me is of the great long front fenders hanging on the wall of his garage. I was 4 or 5 at the time, so cut me some slack. 3 - That Silver Arrow engine sounds to me like it has a pretty sharp piston slap at startup. 4 - I had no idea that Studebaker owned Pierce. Really? 5 - (I know, more than you paid for) The repurposed PA buildings still stand, on Elmwood Ave. in Buffalo. 6 - (Extra bonus!) I don't like the back windows, so my seal of approval on those is withheld.

Perhaps was british producer Bristol inspired by this legend. It is in one line with the Heinz' Corsair and with the Buick Y Job. One was driven by Clark Gable, I believe. He owned one of 2 Duesenburg SSJ and on Jensen Special '39 with Mercury Engine and many more fascinating cars.

Exhaust exits out the top of this flathead unlike Henry Ford's V8's (& 12's) which for over 20 years ran thru the block and out the sides causing overheating. Once saw a mid 30's PA for sale in the showroom of a Paso Robles, Ca. car dealer; it was in pristine original shape priced around 30k$. Was tempted to buy it but wife didn't approve 2nd mortgaging the house-- really belonged in a classic museum.

@@loucostabile Hi Lou, I totally don't get the cyncism from your side when the "curator" of the collection doesn't even know what size the engine is. Once I had the opportunity to check out the Pierce Arrow Museum in Buffalo and one of the three remaining cars were there and it was truly an amazing experience. So if someone becomes the custodian of such a great value I expect him to be fully aware of the showpieces he is responsible for displaying and even driving. So I guess it's not me who should provide more information but the curator should have been more informed and as others said he should be a people person. I absolutely don't want to criticize your work as for example this video is one of the very-very few about this car and fortunately you have great videos of other rare automobiles but I just don't get how someone can work like this. This is publicity for his company as well so I guess he is supposed to do a good work. Marcell.

You must not have filmed this today because it is not cool out in the Chicago area, today. WOW does definitely describes that car. I love the front end, especially the grill, but I can't say I'm a big fan of how the tail end looks. Those rear windows are so small. Backing up must be either a real chore or just something you don't do with that car. This one really is quite a car, although, the Pierce Arrow that George Burns drove in "Just You and Me Kid" was a better looking car. Maybe that's why it made it to production and this one didn't. I'd have to say that the spare tire compartments, one on either side, are really cool. Thanks, agian, Lou, for sharing this video. Even though I'm not a big fan of the tail end, it is a really cool car. :)

Lou:. This is one stunning car! Wow just wow what a beauty of a car! This is was certainly avant garde at that time. I wonder what this would be worth, probably in the six or seven figures. If I were a multi millionaire, this would definitely be coming home with me no question about. Even if the owner said not for sale,I'd make him an offer he probably won't refuse. It's just that special of a vehicle that I would go to that length to get.
