On Ash Wednesday, NETWORK held an online Lenten prayer service for confession, contrition, and repair. Our communal prayer for redress and repair for the sin of slavery and the decades of racist policies and practices that has followed through today, was led by Fr. Chris Kellerman, SJ and Sr. Melinda Pellerin, SSJ.
Fr. Chris Kellerman, SJ reflected on Ash Wednesday, Lent, and All Oppression Shall Cease: A History of Slavery, Abolitionism, and the Catholic Church, his theological and historical study of slavery and the Catholic Church.
Melinda Adrienne Pellerin, a Sister of Saint Joseph whose congregation is from Springfield, Massachusetts, will lead us in prayer and reflection for confession, contrition, repair, and Truth telling. Sister Melinda is the first African American Woman in the Springfield congregation.
