This Lent I gave up alcohol and started praying more often and more fervently. It lead me to full day fasting which I am still doing once or twice a week. Also on the days I do eat I stop after 7:00 pm. I have been able to control my urges and with God's help I have abandoned my sins of substance abuse and porn addiction. I feel more free than I ever have and have lost around 30lbs so far. The physical and spiritual effects have been a blessing.

I’d like to add, last lent my mother and I started a bread water and prayer fast. It’s 3 meals a day of bread and water seasoned with exorcised olive oil and salt. That Easter was the best Easter we have ever lived. I remember feeling immense joy that Christ indeed was risen and was ALIVE!!! It helped me mend a few relationships especially with my father. I honestly can’t wait for Wednesday although difficult, you that are reading this comment, I invite you to it this year. You won’t regret it

I know it sounds difficult but it’s so worth it because you’re not living lent as “just another lent”. Especially for what conditions we’re living in today. If you’re willing to let go of yourself to the Lord in this way make sure to confess and live the mass taking Holy Communion and the basic prayers. Invite Jesus to fast in you, this way you will not fail because it’s Him doing the fasting. your sister in Christ
You and me fast only during lent but what about the people who fast due to poverty, jobless and can't afford even to buy a bread. Let's pray for these people rather than.....

The trouble with eating fish is that I would prefer fish over steak. But, thank you for telling why we eat fish. It makes me think of the Eucharist!. My Dad was a pipe coverer and worked out of town a lot. When he'd be asked for money to eat and by a restaurant, he have the guy come in with him, order whatever he wanted to eat and talk with him while they ate. My Dad's name was Francis Edward Joseph Flynn. He died in 1978 and I still miss him and I'm 81🌻🐦

JUST what I need. Been moaning to God that I have no self conttol. I eat loads of cake and other food. Go to bed and get up when I want. Addicted to utube! I am so thankful for this teaching. This are things we should be doing all the time. Pray everyday, fast at least once a week. And give when ever there is a need and give consistently to the church. This is the discipline that every Christian should practice continuously, year round not just for Easter. If we want to grow in our faith and our relationship with our Lord.
Fr. Chris, I have to be honest I have always felt like I struggle during the entire season of Lent. When I hear priests talk about how we're supposed give up something during Lent then sometimes it makes me wonder if Catholics should give up that same thing for the rest of the year. Once Lent is then over and Catholics go back to "normal" in terms of not having to suffer it would make me think that they chose to only carry their Cross only during Lent.
To me it makes more sense to learn how to suffer with a smile on your face daily. A perfect example is when you see the news footage of Ukrainians having to flee the country but through their suffering they choose to still pray and sing their national anthem. This is one of the best examples of how to pick up a cross no matter how heavy or for how long to take it with you wherever you have to go.
While a lot of Catholics are keeping the people of the Ukraine in their prayers don't forget to actually also pray for the conversion of Putin's soul.
Yes, if we are able to continue it through the whole year that would be a lot of grace and virtue. But it is not required by the church but for those who are able to accept it we should. God bless

Yes Fr.Chris i keep on praying for the Divine chaplet for the soul of my sister she just passed away 1 month ago but bfore she passed away she and we keep praying together the chaplet of Divine Mercy thruogh video calls .praying together until now i keep on praying on her soul

It’s 2/17/24 and I thank you Father Chris for enlightening us on penance, fasting & lent. I’m 73 and will be baptized on Holy Saturday. On Fridays I do not eat meat, but I do eat mostly animal products the rest of the week to reduce inflammation, which has been crippling for me. During lent I stop or reduce an indulgence. Absence can often be challenging, yet liberating.🙏❤️❤️🔥🕊☦️

I loved this discussion Father Chris. I feel challenged and motivated. Please remember my family. Oh how I want us to be Catholic, but I don’t want to push my spouse away from the church by pressuring him into the church. Pray that the Good Lord will continue to use us in our community and pray I don’t fail miserably this lent. I really want to offer this to the Lord, but it’s tricky doing it yourself. I get hungry just thinking about it.🤣I’m just excited to see how God is going to use this and to see what He’s going to do throughout His body! Hallelujah!

I decided not to go to church anymore when I was 10 years old and my mother was devastated and my father said let her choose when she is older. Today I am a spiritual person and all I know is love one another. I have been watching your videos lately and you seem like a good priest and you explain everything so well. I will not fast but will definitely buy a meal to someone that is hungry, my best quality is generosity. Maybe I will go to church sometime in the summer.
