Yep and misunderstanding. How a court goes about conducting its business is a pretty opaque (and therefore misunderstood) thing for most of the general public. Judge did a fine job not only explaining all relevant aspects impacting her case, but he also provided several good points of insight as to why rather than being angry she really ought to still be in a thankful frame of mind (this was said early on before the judge finally offer up and exolained his proposed workaround). Fortunately, she was clear-headed enough to finally pick up what he was laying down. For a great number of Karens, though, many/most wouldn't possess the wherewithal to pull that off. Must be a challenge for a counseling agency to try to mentor and supervisor a newbie counselor. Certainly can't argue the fact that someone who has had issues in the past may have a better understanding in helping people dealing with the same issues she has faced may be a more effective counselor. She is still blaming other people, claiming ignorance around her plea deal, and still making excuses around her inability to meet the terms of the court requirements leads me to think it is premature for her to be counseling people.
Wow walking pneumonia stinks. My hubby had that and we barely made it to the emergency room. He refused to go before my back surgery appointment I had because he wanted to be with me and then he wanted me with him at the er. Thank God for looking over him.
This is a misdemeanor. I would say let her off probation. Her life needs to go on. A good faith effort needs to be rewarded and my God they expect all of these fees and counseling and yet they hinder the ability to make a living. Let her off probation. It sounds like she understands that she wants a clean background check. that sounds like motivation enough to keep her from reoffending.
Another pretty face who got away with making her own rules and crying her sob story so she could have her way. Let’s hope with her anger issues, she doesn’t kill someone in her next DUI.
I bet there is a video out there of her demanding *I want to see the manager* they should convict and put her ass in prison, then she can see how that interferes with her life.
Any bets on her scheduling her third session for March 31 and something coming up where it doesn't happen? THREE months in a row. Blames two months on her counselor's family emergency (no other counselor available?). The last month she missed one appointment due to illness (no remote counseling?) and one due to reasons she can't remember. Probably had to go Christmas shopping.
I actually understand what she is saying. I have been in counseling for years. Alot of the best ones are those who have been where she has been. I like that she is fighting for what she thought was supposed to happen. She, at first was entitled, but then was listened to. Good judges do take the time to listen. She seems to be telling the truth throughout the entire time having proof to back her words up. When you work as hard as she has to try to get what you need to fix your past mistakes and it is within reach and everything seems perfect. I understand why people feel like she is entitled especially If you watch so many court videos. But if you look at the situation as the young lady worked harder than she probably ever has and trust me when I say making weekly appointments and monthly appointments with 2 different counseling type professionals does get hard after a while. But I think she freaked out because she had everything set up perfectly the way it was supposed to be in her mind. Just try to understand. I also understand why yall think she may be a little self entitled. She was given an awesome opportunity that few have been able to get. But is this a first time offense or something she constantly has done. The judge may or may not have known her history.
Yes! Exactly! She has been busting her tail to pay the consequences for her wrongdoing. I do not understand the negative comments! She’s fighting for what she’s worked hard to achieve without it blowing up due to pneumonia and counselor’s family emergency. Give the lady a break people! She’s put in the work!
I think categorizing her response as "defiant" seemed a bit unfair. She seems frustrated. Now, whether or not she's entitled to that is another thing. But I've seen people in court actually be defiant, and this ain't it.
After the amount of people I see completely eff up probation, I can't see why they are giving this hard a time. Her reaction is completely understandable as her profession is literally on the line. All in all, a good outcome. She passed the background check for the program so I'm guessing she has little to ko prior history and executed diversion with very little issue. If they were that concerned, they could've called the therapist about the missed appts and I'd bet my bottom dollar she would've supported her coming off diversion.

Its interesting if you watch a lot of these how people do absolutely nothing and remain on probation, but don't go to jail. She has done almost 98 percent of what was asked of her other than some mutually agreed upon missed appointments. I have seen this judge not take action when he should have. Not that it matters, but I disagree with how hard he came down on her.
We do our internship during the summer so students can focus on school during prime school time. They're allowed to take a reasonable time off as well to vacation or do fun stuff and we pay them a decent rate. Unpaid internship....no comment.
Nice job Judge Meinicke! Great job in fact. Amber obviously came in with a certain expectation and a less than perfect perspective. I don't know if she ever had an attorney on her case. But it would have served her well to go over all aspects of her situation, in advance, with an attorney so she could gain insight as to where things might go sideways and game plan how she should comport herself in the event of such difficulties. But she came in with a full head of steam oblivious to all the intricacies that she still yet needed to navigate. She was then massively surprised by just how big the landmines were that stood in her way. Judge did a great job of quickly identifying what motivated her overreaction and remaining composed himself...not taking it personally or blowing it completely out of proportion (some judges absolutely would have done that as SOP). Judge also did well letting her know that her response was highly discordant given she supposedly had completed an anger management class. Once he said that, Amber knew it was her best interest to immediately take her foot off the gas. In general, Karens don't possess that skill set. That said, maybe she is truly entitled. I just took her response to be one of shock...then huge disappointment..that she simply had no concept at all that she might face such a landmine in the hearing. But she's shown substantial effort and diligence during her 'probation.' The best chance of her not returning to court is to see her become gainfully employed in her profession as soon as possible. The workaround the judge came up with was the perfect solution. And if Amber's employer now sees this video and decides to cancel her internship, she will have the wise words of Judge Meinicke to help her deal with that bit of adversity. He's right, life is full of all kinds of things that are beyond our control. It's your response to such situations that greatly dictates how things turn out for you. I wish her well. I think this whole experience might be a net positive for her. But you never know.
