This is wonderful to watch, grew up listening to Milo in Atlanta and Darrell Evan's was one of our Atlanta Braves....my has time gone by.....thank you.
Those black uniforms for the Giants were awesome! Nike needs to bring these back either as a throwback special or an updated version for a good road alternate.
Or better yet they should switch back to these and the orange ones as alternating main uniforms and not alternates. Get rid of the gray for good. The Giants started the horrible trend back to gray in 1983 and the whole league followed suit by 1992. Cubs made their mistake in 1990. 60's and 90's (and beyond) uniforms are bland, dull and repetititve.
This game was Sunday, August 23rd, but still an awesome video to see, all those years ago! I'm actually a Cub fan, but always had a liking to the early 80's Giants, loved those uniforms they wore, they had a powerful lineup, Vida Blue, McCovey at the end of his career, all good stuff!
This year would prove to be the last for WGN's legendary announcer Jack Brickhouse. After this Harry Caray would take the helm of the broadcast booth at WGN. But Mr. Brickhouse would be the big winner for me when it came to quality broadcasting for baseball at WGN. May God bless Mr. Brickhouse!
The first commercial, "Kung Fu", with David Carradine, knowing what we know now, do you think he got hard when that rope wrapped around his neck in that fight scene?
This started a four-game winning streak for the Cubs, matching their longest for the abbreviated, horrendous season. They lost 27 of their first 32 games and 36 of their first 46. The strike probably saved them from a 100-loss season, something that had happened only twice before (1962 and 1966) and once subsequently (2012).
the MLB has long been dead. Forget about it. It's a corporate money grab played by sissy millionaires on perfectly manicured fields covered by ads. This is REAL baseball. No face shields, no dreadlocks, no shin guards, no elbow pads, no ads.
Scooby Carr I definitely agree I love these Giants black uniforms they looked good not only back then but I think they would look good now in days as well. Nike should reboot these as a new road alternate uniform for the Giants these days.
Cute story by Brickhouse talking about Shoeless Joe Jackson. Not quite the way I heard it, it went when Jackson got to 3rd the fan did yell at him "Hey Jackson can you spell CAT? Jackson turned and said....Hey MR can you spell SHIT?
@@petedimis9883 Bonds never played another game in the majors. He actually signed with the Yankees in mid-May of '82, but was released in June(couldn't find info about if he played a few minor league games, or was just working out, and finally realized it was over).
Cubs looked as if they were wearing pajamas. Giants' black jerseys were exponentially more vomit-inducing. Both teams were so incredibly gawdawful back in 1981, the last year of both the Wrigley ownership for the Cubs and Spec Richardson's Reign of Terror for the Giants.
The Giants uniforms were awesome though in my opinion loved the black and orange tops those were really solid. The Cubs home uniforms look better as button-ups.

I'm surprised Milo Hamilton took the first innings. I would have thought Brickhouse would call 1-2-3 and 7-8-9 with Milo calling the middle innings.
I agree. I didn't dislike Harry and having Stone was a real plus. But Jack Brickhouse provided the superior play-by-play.
Caray was a fat drunk! I couldn't stand him.
Chicago Cubs are a disgrace putting a statue of Carey and dissing Mr Brickhouse.
@@ilmsff7 phasing him out...
Detroit fans will notice Larry Herndon, Darryl Evans, and Willie Hernandez playing in this game with Dave Bergman on the bench.
These two teams were no strangers to windy conditions.
This just popped up on my feed, so why not? The first live game I attended as a kid was in 1986, so this will be a good baseball history lesson lol
Besides it being refreshing listening to Brickhouse; It sure was a treat watching Jody Davis in Action during his Rookie Season
Lou Boudrow is such a wonderful play by play man, the best in my opinion
Loved Billy Buck who played 22 tough years and has more hits than 70% of all Hall of Famers!!!!
That catch by Durham at 1:24:25 is pretty remarkable. What a recovery!

Very small crowds at Wrigley Field during those home games eh?
‘82 or ‘83 were bad years.
Thx for posting this!
Let's hope the Giants go back to these classic uniforms - they sure look good here in this 1980s game.

Darrell Evans...one of three players with 400+ career HRs and not in the HOF. The others are Dave Kingman and Fred McGriff.
Umpires (6:01)
HP Lee Weyer (Crew Chief)

How many fans in those days confused Randy Martz the pitcher with Randy Marsh the umpire?
Bobby Bonds on the Cubs?? I don’t even remember that
Yep, one of like 12 teams he played for. He even played for the White Sox .
The Cubs were his last stop.

Amazing, considering that Tyson was 15 at the time.
Like Hunter Renfroe or is it Hunter Renfrow ? Google both.
They need to bring those uniforms back what say you
not positive but think think this was Jack Brickhouse last season?
You just don’t see pitchers throw a palmball anymore...

Bobby Bonds at 41:00

He played for what 12 teams? 😳.

The black and orange tops were dope. I strongly disliked the 1983-93 set.
