Norway's car market is 94% EVs - and a quarter of them are Chinese

  • No other country comes close to Norway’s level of market penetration. Unlike the U.S. and EU, the Scandinavian country does not impose tariffs on Chinese cars - and they represent almost a quarter of the EV market. CGTN’s Johannes Pleschberger reports from Oslo

    No car manufacturer in Norway, thus no jobs to protect with tariffs ..... Wonder if that has anything to do with it?😇

      Cars have always been very highly taxed in Norway, they just reduced the taxes on EV’s making them financially the only choice for the majority of people.

    Big country, small population, masses of cheap hydro power, so low electricity prices and huge tax disincentives against non EV vehicles. Norway is thus very much an outlier that bears little relevance to almost everywhere else.

      Don't pollute your environment with expensive combustion vehicles. Remember climate change is a thing. But you can make more bucks by selling expensive oil and gas to the resource poor countries like europe.

      No developing nation need energy. It should be developed countries that need to spend more so other countries can have a buffer on carbon emission. UK should be 100% green by now because they started polluting from 1800s but not doing anything. Atleast Norway doing something

      Norway set up their sovereign wealth fund in the days when most people didn't even consider the consequences of burning gas and oil. It was a massively intelligent move as at that time the entire world was burning oil and gas. They have used that money wisely to make their own people benefit in so many ways.
      The USA and the UK could have done similar but they let their billionaires get ever richer and then to donate huge sums to politicians who in turn make more decisions favouring the oil and gas billionaires whilst not benefitting their own electorate and citizens at all.
      Which is the more sustainable, more democratic, more egalitarian and humane model I wonder? 🤔

    • @okklidokkli
      @okklidokkli 6 днів тому +2

      What is hypocritical is being totally depended on Norwegian oil and gas,, buying and using it everyday, and then criticize Norway for producing it!
      Further, Norway's petroleum production is now under electrification and connected to renewable power grid on shore. The emissions is cut dramatically. Later the production will be converted to Blue and Green hydrogen.

    EU is slepping and taking care of VW and their diesel business and Norway is going forward. I live in a country where people still find it not possible to drive to vacation 300 km far away and then we see people from Norway driving on same location Croatia with an EV and going 1.500 km and more away from home. I am certainly not against EV, but I think gas and diesel cars should be taxed just the same as EV and then let the market pick the winner. 100% EV fleet is a scary proposition in case of war. The electric infrastructure would be easy targets and could easily immobilize the entire country. Not smart.
