Animal cloning : Story of Dolly the sheep | The world of animal cloning | Animated biology

- Cloning creates a genetically identical copy of an animal or plant. Many animals - including frogs, mice, sheep, and cows - had been cloned before Dolly. Plants are often cloned - when you take a cutting, you are producing a clone.

Nice video bro! Just a quick question, why is the surrogate mother needed in implanting the embryo? Why not implant it in one of the cell donors? Thanks!

Cool video. Thanks. Just to be clear, was the genetic material in the ova that produced Dolly entirely just the nucleus of the skin cell?
The Goodly Dragon yup you are right that’s why dolly is entirely like the fin Dorset and they have 100 match in their genetic makeup

Does somatic cell have the property of totipotence?? As I think that fertilization event between ova and sperm leads to certain hormonal or chemical changes that result in formation of zygote, but here somatic cell hybridized and formed the embryo( I am confused)
A normal somatic cell is not totipotent in general ....but in somatic cell nuclear transfer there is substantial nuclear reprogramming which makes it totipotent...Well the molecular mechanism underlies this reprogramming is fairly complex and is a topic for separate video
@@animatedbiologywitharpan sir plz make a video on this topic too and tell me also that how we get more knowledge about thus topics because i didn't find Aby suitable video on internet
Sir..
Only nucleus was taken from d somatic cells sir..
Great work thanku uhh.
Please share my channel link with your friends and help me reach out to big audiance
But I don't understand how they form an embryo when the cells fuse if there is no genetic material fusing between the cells because the nucleus was extracted from the egg cell.

I have a doubt,in some other UA-cam video it was said by the teacher that it's an asexual type of reproduction but I didn't got it,can u explain,plzz...
Sexual reproduction means fusion of gametes generally sperm and egg..here there is no role of sperm and somatic cell is doing the job to provide the genetic material so it's not a sexual reproduction.

Hold up... if I am not wrong I think they took the mammary cell from Finn dorset sheep instead of skin cell...
That's true but it's also a somatic cell
@@animatedbiologywitharpan why did they specifically choose udder cells? Why not any other somatic cell
The cell nucleus from an adult differentiated udder cell is transferred into an unfertilized oocyte (developing egg cell) that has had its cell nucleus removed. The hybrid cell is then stimulated to divide by an electric shock, and when it develops into a blastocyst . The shock is critical .when sperm enters the ova similar kind of phenomenon happens ( calcium wave ) . The spatio-temporal dynamics of calcium wave signals the embryonic development.
Udder cell is somatic cell hence (2n) genetic material and it’s really accessible.

Ok bro I am send to all my friends
Then how did the sheep reproduce without a male? Both female sheeps were used
Scientists thought that the technology could be used to remove a nucleus from a mother's egg and replace it with the nucleus from another cell. This would mean that the egg would not need sperm because the nucleus would be replaced with the nucleus of a somatic cell. Remember that a somatic cell has all the genetic material it needs to live. A gamete has only half the amount of genetic material. Scientists thought that egg cells were the right type of cell because they were young and fresh. They were correct
Great video ❤👌by the way I had a question if animals can be cloned,it can be improved I don't know how for example to clone a megalania the DNA of the komodo dragon must be altered to transform it into a prehistoric animal, basilosaurus by altering the DNA of porpoises to turn them into prehistoric whales and finally arsinoitherium by altering the DNA of the elephant and mixing it with the DNA of rhinoceros, there are chances of doing such a feat?
Theoretically yes. But now cloning is unethical to perform. Hence it's not possible
Nice explanation

Very nice for you did good with you and your family have mailed you the last
It was confusing i figure out the enucleated egg (after removing genetic material) was fertilized. Is it so?
Another good works bro
Apreciation 👏
Here is no fertilization part ...the fusion of somatic cell and enucleated egg cell resembles the fertilization event.but here the genetic content is totally from the somatic cell donor
Is DNA cloning same as cell cloning? And if there is a differance in what?
No dna coming is different than cloning an animal

how did the embryo grow from just the egg cell without any involvement of sperm
Very nice question...I will make a video on that
@@animatedbiologywitharpan Yes please. But can you just answer it in short here? It's really bothering me
Same question from me
And one more question
How these specific organ know their development at specific area ?
I think the mammary gland cell was diploid already, so it didn't require any other set of chromosome and as the nucleas of that cell was placed in egg cell, the further growth of sheep took place.
I just want science to make Pokemons
Ha ha ha
Can we prepare a clone of human...?
Not yet done and its not ethical
Yes but it's not ethical

why it is important that the public is aware of reproductive cloning?
Cloning can reduce genetic diversity which is bad from a population point of view.
Sorry but fin dorsett is the father and Scottish blackface ewe was the mother
