4:14 how was tripling student fees supposed to lower them? What research was that decision based on? Tuition fees were tripled in 2012. It's 2017 now. For what reason has she continued to support the raising of tuition fees? Tories seem to live in an alternate reality.

  • @t814
    @t814 7 років тому +1

5:20 the Labour Party only made one promise to students which was to abolish student fees and return to the system we've had for decades until 2004 that didn't put individuals into decades of debt. It's in the Labour Party manifesto and the NME interview with Corbyn, the leader of the Labour Party. It's pathetic of May to have to resort to lying in order to find criticism in her opponent.

Who are these "most people" that she's referring to that say this is apparently a "good system"?

She voted against Labour's Housing Policy which would have forced landlords to make sure their properties are safe to live before renting then out which meant no exposed wiring, no mould, no infestations, access to clean water, working energy supplies etc.

"A balanced approach to the economy" would mean socialism and capitalism alongside each other which is what the Labour Party manifesto promotes. May just gave a speech saying capitalism is the best thing to have happened to the world - when we have record numbers of people being forced to turn to food banks (including those in full time employment), record numbers of children living in poverty EVEN AFTER THE TORIES NARROWED THE DEFINITION OF POVERTY, record numbers of homeless people including families. What does May decide to do? Hand out free money to already wealthy people to buy up more houses while social house building come essentially come to a standstill. There's no money for the NHS, for schools, for public sector workers so I've got to ask, where's the magic money tree?

Classic 'divide and rule' from the tories in regards to tuition fees. Trying to turn those who dont go to university against those who do!!
This shows a clear distinction between the individualistic (get what you can for yourself) style of government under the tories and the more inclusive politics of labour, which recognises we create a better society for all when everyone has free access to a university education!

Here is a far from exhaustive list of examples of the systematic abuse of disabled people that has been going on since 2010 when the Tories were elected: The government's own figures admit that thousands of disabled people have died within six weeks of being declared "fit for work" and stripped of their disability benefits by the Work Capacity Assessment (WCA) regime. The WCA regime was declared unlawful for the way it discriminates against people with mental health conditions, but the Tory government carried on regardless. Appeals against botched WCA rulings have been costing £50 million a year. This cost is paid for by the taxpayer, not the profiteering corporations that made the botched assessments in the first place. The WCA disability denial regime costs way more in corporate outsourcing contracts to administer than it will ever save in reduced disability benefit payments, meaning the Tories are forcing the taxpayer to subsidise their systematic abuse of disabled people.
An incredible 420,000 disabled people were hit by the Tory "Bedroom Tax", many of them for "spare" rooms used for medical equipment, or for carers to sleep in. The financial stress caused Stephanie Bottrill to commit suicide leaving a note blaming David Cameron and the Tory government. Tens of thousands of disabled people were forced onto the Tories' shambolic Work Programme, but the outsourcing companies running this scheme knew they could never make a profit from helping "difficult to place" clients, so disabled people were just "parked" while the corporate parasites focused on cashing in on easy to place clients.
Just 8% of disabled people to be put through the Work Programme end up finding jobs! A United Nations investigation into the treatment of disabled people in the UK found that the UK government was committing "grave and systematic violations" of disabled people's rights. In March 2016 309 Tory MPs voted to cut the Employment and Support Allowance by £1,500 per year. Not a single politician from any other party voted in favour of these cuts. As a result of this brazen economic assault on disabled people, several Tory MPs were sacked as patrons of disability charities.
The Tory party claimed to be scrapping the Disability Living Allowance (DLA) and replacing it with Personal Independence Payments (PIP) in order to make sure the money went to the right people, but in April 2017 they slashed PIP payments by 33% using the perverse excuse that this would incentivise them to find work (despite there being no evidence whatever to back up this claim). Disabled people undergoing PIP assessments have routinely been asked "why haven't you killed yourself yet?" by their assessors. An incredible 65% of PIP decisions that go to appeal are overturned, yet the profiteering outsourcing corporations making these botched assessments (Atos and Capita) just had their contracts extended by two years by a no-bid process!
The Tory party constantly claim that their disability cuts and are trying to get disabled people into work, but they deliberately laid off 1,500 disabled people by shutting down Remploy factories, many of whom are still out of work years later. Despite constantly going on about the importance of helping people with mental illnesses, the Tories have been doing precisely to opposite; slashing funding for mental health services and actively instructing it's corporate army of disability assessors to discriminate against people with mental health conditions.
The Tory government are confiscating an astounding 900 adapted motability vehicles from disabled people per week. In one case they confiscated the motability vehicle to save £6,000 and then agreed to pay £65,000 in taxi fares so that the disabled person could continue going to work!
As I said at the beginning, this is a far from exhaustive list of examples of the systematic Tory abuse of disabled people. Are you honestly going to endorse this? If you vote Tory, you endorse the continuation of this disgusting Tory agenda of abusing and impoverishing disabled people.

Or is it because people who earn more money will end up squirrelling all that wealth away in tax havens like Amber Rudd?

The railways in South Korea are nationalised and a thousand times cheaper and better. There is accountability for the railways if they are crap when they are nationalised but not under profitmaking privatisation. If they are crap I just don't need to vote for the crap government.

stonynotdusty Privately owned railways receive more taxpayer funding (subsidies) today than nationalised railways ever received.

Then why are they the most expensive or close to the most expensive in the world? In addition, nobody is held responsible when prices do go up unless everybody boycott using them but that is not going to happen as everybody needs to get to work and for most, there are no alternatives, no competition. Companies are in business for profit, profit and more profit not to help people. If they are able to put up prices because of no competition they will not hold back. The problem in the UK is for so long the political parties are so corrupt that the electorate is forced to choose between bad egg number 1 or bad egg number 2 they're both bad it's almost not worth voting for either. Whichever one gets in to power, one thing is for sure it's going to get worse, but people believe the propaganda that they get to choose.

Marr is OK. I used to dislike him but my impression has changed somewhat. I know some consider him to be anti-Corbyn. He does indeed give Corbyn a much harder time than he gives May. I think this is devil's advocacy. He know's Corbyn is robust and can present a strong case for himself and his party. If he hammered May that hard for a full interview she'd be reduced to tears. For which no one would have any sympathy whatsoever. It's not just the pound that's dying on her watch. It's people. In their thousands.

Does getting a good 'deal' mean there will be free movement of people or not? This is what people want to know.
