It is the principle of democracy. Every single Scottish constituency, as well as most Northern Irish constituencies, voted remain. It is not leaving the EU itself which will bring about the end to the United Kingdom, it was that the majority of the electorate in Scotland and N.I. wanted to remain. The EU Referendum was about the UK leaving the EU. Scotland is a part of EU. Scotland is not a member of the EU. To be a part of the EU, Scotland has to follow protocol and first win a referendum to leave the UK and then apply to be a member of the EU. This is very democratic. They were given a Referendum the year before last and the majority voted to stay a part of the UK. This was a democratic process. To repeal the laws, you have to first own the laws. She's passing an act, to allow us to repeal, change or keep any EU laws, in the context of us being an independent sovereign nation, outside the EU with no obligation to follow EU Directive laws. Some of these laws make sense, they're in the UK's interests for trade, safety and a whole range of issues. Other laws, not really useful or sensible and we can abandon those.

The Grammar School resurrection is very interesting, and the idea of the institution, conceptually, seems to me to be valid. I don't think the comprehensive school's system of talent compartmentalisation really works in practice because the teachers at the top aren't always prepared to really draw out and build upon the gifts of the gifted. My issue comes with the segregation coming at age 11, though. To be funnelled in such a significant way from such an early age is ridiculous.
I just don't see this going smoothly. Watching how the US Congress operates, ie nothing ever gets done in terms of our budget, I fear the European Union will not play fair. The two year completion target will probably get pushed out to ten years of bickering.

Right now, we may not see the Brexit's impacts, but for a long time, I think England can suffer some knock-on effects due to investment loss, the investors' transition to another EU' country. Besides, the foreign community living in England, they will find difficult with a lot of problems...
Our investment has gone up post Brexit because businesses know that the U.K is deep down a right wing country which embraces the free market ideology over socialism. The EU is always increasing regulation and protectionism which is a left wing model and is detrimental towards investors and business. Long term there will be no EU anyway. It's been imploding for years and the economic juggernaut that is Germany is the country keeping it afloat. Unfortunately Germany will lose the most with the U.K not being in the EU. If I were Germany I'd leave the EU, continue to trade freely with the U.K and not be brought down by the countries that aren't positively and economically contributing to the EU.

Scotland may not even qualify for membership because its deficit-to-GDP ratio is nearly 10%. They were given a Referendum the year before last and the majority voted to stay a part of the UK. This was a democratic process.
The Scots in the EU Referendum were British, voting on behalf of the UK - not Scots voting on behalf of Scotland.
I agree it's in the best interests of Scotland to remain having the protection of the EU. Who knows what the real Government has planned for the belligerent SNP once they're at their mercy after Brexit is final? I am Nationalist myself, quite an activist in my day and have Scotland, England, Wales and N.Ireland tattooed on my forearm underneath a George and Dragon - real full on defiance to political correctness so I get why the Scots want Independence and why they need to stay in the EU ... but life sucks and the two Houses Of Parliament have to do their thing first before a referendum can happen. This they will not do while the UK is going through a massive political change and it could take years for the dust to settle. I'm all for the Scots to have another Referendum in time, but think it's pathetic to think it's possible to keep having one straight after another until you get the result you want. It's like wanting to call a coin toss until you win.
The first thing I noticed with this new comment of yours is that you feel 8% UK representation in the EU is fairly democratic with the lives of 60 Million+ people being effected by the whims of ambivalent foreigners with their own self interests for their countries at our expense - but find 8.3% of the UK being represented by Scotland to be unfairly democratic with 5 Milllon lives being effected by fellow British people living with them, working with them, socialising with them, caring about them?
As for Brexit it's too early to see if its a bad thing or not. We had no help from the EU during the Credit crunch of 2008, so a lot of good the EU Membership did there. They did not help Greece survive economically, they are letting Italy go the same way ... so personally I can't wait to get the monkey off our backs.
Immigration isn't an issue for me, being governed by an elected British Government is. Foreigners abroad are inconsequential to me and so are their opinions about the UK and the British. So obviously I don't want the altruist aresholes deciding how many hours we can work, what food we can buy and how many refugees we have to employ, but this is just me.
With the price of Scottish oil dropping to a record low, it is fortunate Scotland is a part of the UK and has the burden shared by the people of three other countries ... while nobody in the EU is caring.
What you are trying to say about the EU is of interest to me, especially if you're Scottish ... so give it some thought please. I am British and always like to understand what my people are on about when they're ranting about things regarding the UK and the British. I can argue your point in discussions with others when I know what it is.

the unfortunate fact is that even though Parliament voted 6:1 for EURef, they could still slap it down and that would be a disaster. Personally, I think a lot of Labour MPs will be out of a job if they decide to vote against it.

To repeal the laws, you have to first own the laws. She's passing an act, to allow us to repeal, change or keep any EU laws, in the context of us being an independent sovereign nation, outside the EU with no obligation to follow EU Directive laws. Some of these laws make sense, they're in the UK's interests for trade, safety and a whole range of issues. Other laws, not really useful or sensible and we can abandon those.

It's difficult to understand your comment, sorry. The UK (public) has long wanted an exit from the EU, and we were never really a full member, as you pointed out. We were opposed to the Euro and many areas of EU policy. Not only is the common market out-dated it's gone too far from its original purpose. Economic unification hasn't worked. The loss of legal sovereignty, a top-down totalitarian-style government combined with the lack of any sensible or economically sustainable immigration policy are the dangerous aspects of the EU. Those were main reasons the British people seized their opportunity in Brexit. I hope other countries now feel confident in the coming years as we formalize our exit, to have their own referendums and exits.

She's already passing a large piece of legislation ahead of that to re-gain full British independence over EU legislation. The UK is the 2nd largest economy within the EU. The UK's departure will potentially break the EU, or at the very least shake things up considerably, if the EU continues this silly "free movement or no trade" nonsense. We're quite happy to walk away from the EU and the single market completely. The EU has far more to lose than we do.

Factories? Have you heard of globalisation? The majority of factories are staffed by Chinese people in China. Our Hospitals (ie the NHS) are staffed 78.5% by British nationals. Only 4% of NHS staff are EU migrants. We have a housing *shortage* currently, so there will be no problem filling our flats. I think you know nothing of the UK's society or economy.

The Grammar School resurrection is very interesting, and the idea of the institution, conceptually, seems to me to be valid. I don't think the comprehensive school's system of talent compartmentalisation really works in practice because the teachers at the top aren't always prepared to really draw out and build upon the gifts of the gifted. My issue comes with the segregation coming at age 11, though. To be funnelled in such a significant way from such an early age is ridiculous.

I just don't see this going smoothly. Watching how the US Congress operates, ie nothing ever gets done in terms of our budget, I fear the European Union will not play fair. The two year completion target will probably get pushed out to ten years of bickering.
My understanding is that the negotiating process can't go on for longer than 2 years. If that happens, WTO international rules apply. That would actually be rather good for the UK! Much better than our current arrangement. However, that would really suck for German car manufacturers and other EU importers to the UK. It would be good news for US companies such as Ford because your cars would be relatively more attractive. Therefore, you should pray that a negotiation isn't reached!

Right now, we may not see the Brexit's impacts, but for a long time, I think England can suffer some knock-on effects due to investment loss, the investors' transition to another EU' country. Besides, the foreign community living in England, they will find difficult with a lot of problems...

Our investment has gone up post Brexit because businesses know that the U.K is deep down a right wing country which embraces the free market ideology over socialism. The EU is always increasing regulation and protectionism which is a left wing model and is detrimental towards investors and business. Long term there will be no EU anyway. It's been imploding for years and the economic juggernaut that is Germany is the country keeping it afloat. Unfortunately Germany will lose the most with the U.K not being in the EU. If I were Germany I'd leave the EU, continue to trade freely with the U.K and not be brought down by the countries that aren't positively and economically contributing to the EU.
Maybe the involved people will have a more direct and correct views about this topic, I recognize, and I'm just a foreigner so, my best wishes for the UK. Really hope that the people can be happy with their choice

Germany is the EU and the main beneficiary: which is why the EEC was mooted by German industrialists as a postwar entity just prior to the end of WWII.
France was conned into going along for the ride as were the rest of what would become the EU. If any other nation is benefiting from membership it is by default, but a glance at the economies of France Greece, Portugal, Spain and Italy shows the real story.
After two World Wars, Germany thought it had finally got control of Europe by other means but, once again, the UK has put a stop to their ambitions.

Scotland may not even qualify for membership because its deficit-to-GDP ratio is nearly 10%. That's a lot of teats the EU will have to bring out for the sake of giving England a political slap to the face. Even if the EU goes for it, Scotland is going to get a nice big surprise when they realize the deal they get without the UK is going to be pretty bad.
They are the weakest link in this whole situation, which is why they voted for cowardice.
