  • Today we take the recently updated Spartan 7W up for a flight from Duxford aerodrome in Microsoft Flight Simulator, to find out how it now feels. Massive improvement! Huge thumbs up to the developer for a now quite wonderful aircraft. Also huge thanks to the real-world Spartan 7W pilot that reached out to me and described his real-world methods and procedures to handle the aircraft - they helped in the simulator enormously.

This thing is gorgeous and it flies very very nicely. The plane also "dances" in the air in a slightly sluggish, near to real life way, which you can also notice in this video. It almost makes you feel the inertia/ turbulence (in VR) . No twitchiness. Love this aircraft. Engine sound is so cool. Instantly became one of my favorites.

thank you very much for both great reviews! I am thrilled to know the fixes worked! BTW, yes it is a heat effect, it will come on and off depending on cyl temp :)

Thanks for heads up on this hidden gem.
First impression was too shiny silver - but checking videos of real aircraft, it is really polished with no dirt, even in wheel well.
Great handling on roll out, but you need to be alert.
With 450 hp this is the business Learjet of its time in the 30. Even today it cruise faster than most other Lycombe powered GA aicraft. Love it - Highly recommended.

Wow, you did a great job of flying it. You would do very well in the real world Spartan.

After the update and watching this video, I bought the Spartan.
Beautiful aircraft, and I have fallen in love with it. There are a few things that need fixed and improved, but overall I am enjoying it.
One of the problems I noticed is the fuel consumption seems off. After flying around for a couple hours, I noticed that I had only consumed a few gallons of fuel. Hopefully this and other minor issues can be addressed soon.

That looks a lot more manageable - and a better buying proposition.

I'm smitten with this aircraft. It looks a bit like the P-36's attractive civilian cousin. This might be a very useful video if this one comes to Xbox. Great video!
By the way, the sim seems to love the Bucker Jungmann. Whenever I fly it, I see it at every airport I land at for weeks afterwards.

Regardng Duxford, you don't appear to have the whole airshow package which is even better.Go back to where you downloaded it and scroll down a bit and in the notes you'll see how to get the airshow part which involves downloading another airfield.Well worth th effort.........................................

Still not good enough quality. When you can count the number of polygons on the fuel selector with the fingers on your hands and you see a stretched radio display, you know this isn't really payware quality for the year 2023. And what's this I hear in another review, about the deliberate choice by the dev of not being able to use the starter again after shutting down the engine? Ridiculous ... luckily another Spartan is on the way.
