    Without a doubt StPB is the most amazing city to visit. In my travels I have had to visit most Euro cities.... they do not have the edge on StPB. Probably the cleanest and safest city on the planet. Not to mention the food and quality of everything they offer. Moscow comes a close second.

    Having seen most of the great cities across North and South America, Europe, including Russia, as well Beijing and Vladivostok, I was mostly impressed by Saint Petersburg. The city was made for tourists. Plus great open spaces, which cause a lot of walking to get around. With end results: slim, elegant, beautiful women all over the city. Most likely Peter the Great envisioned the extra benefits of the miracle he has founded.

      PAUL's DANCING question, is it a place for Russian culture or is it more for tourist if someone wanted a Russian experiences should he go to Moscow?

    • @paulsdancing5429
      @paulsdancing5429 5 років тому +4

      @@GustavoRodriguez-qr5po Saint Petersburg is for both - culture and tourism. Google: 'Hermitage', for arts. And find Sergey's Beel...website. Sergey will tell you all about Saint Petersburg. Moscow is great. Especially for the types that want to show off: I was there! But Moscow is very expensive for an ordinary person. I saw the world because I was an international management construction specialist and lived on expense accounts. Good luck.

    • @stanspb763
      @stanspb763 4 роки тому +17

      @@GustavoRodriguez-qr5po The culture came first and attracted tourists. When the tourists go away in late September the real Russian experience begins for those who arrive later. It was not built for attracting visitors, not a Disneyland but a working city that focused on its unique culture as part of daily life. The culture and performances are for locals, but in the summer many, 10,000,000 visitors arrive so the destinations and activities promoted by guidebooks are extremely crowded, but there are so many equality interesting destinations ignored by the guidebooks that it is still easy to find far more to do that is not crowded than other cities
      New visa rules from October 1 2019 allows all of the EU plus 30 other country's citizens fee electronic on-line viss except the UK. The UK gives Russians such as a hard time getting a visa that Russia does not want them to have a free visa. So a total of 97 countries now get either visa-free entry or the new electronic visa.
      Plus a million a year arrive by ferry or cruise ship and can get visa-free entry from any country if they book a shore excursion with a Russian tour operator.
      Moscow is about the same Russian experience as combining Washington DC and NY City being an American experience. Not really related but Moscow is much nicer, friendlier and beautiful, and a lot safer.
      For a real Russian experience go stay in a village or dacha, or go to one of the other lesser-known regional capitals like Kazan or Volgagrad which are also beautiful, relaxed and welcoming. The real Russian experience is meeting strangers and being welcomed as an old friend, sitting at the kitchen table or in a pub and talking for hours about everything. Going to a forest banya (Russian hot/steam sauna many Russians have on their Dachas in the woods). Only then can someone begin to understand the Russian experience.

I think a city like St. Petersburg looks closer to what Constantinople would have been. An orthodox rich city combining majestic mega-structures and monuments, with splendid Orthodox Churches, toppled with some central European aesthetics and various types of quarters signifying the cosmopolitan character and social class variances.

    Hi may I know if what is the temperature range for June? I just couldn’t find a concrete answer. Will you advise to bring some winter clothes? Because I saw some videos that June is already summer and yet they are wearing winter clothes 😀. Hope I could find some answers here. TIA

    • @franzferdinand4164
      @franzferdinand4164 4 роки тому

      It's usually very warm in SPb in June. Yet I would advise you to bring a sweater or two, the weather can be unpredictable sometimes. Also, it's pretty windy near the canals and since they're one of the biggest attractions, you just have to bring something to keep you warm. But don't go too far, a winter coat is definitely not needed. Good luck with your trip!
      Also, don't forget to visit Пышечная on Konyuschennaya Str. Best soviet donuts in town!

      When? It depends what you want from the visit. It is warm weather, higher hotel prices, dachas and very crowded streets and museums than summer is best. If you want more culture, ballet, opera, concerts, and dressing nicer, easy access to museums and lower prices surely it is autumn or winter. If it is for parties, end of Dec to January 10th or later when the whole country is a wild 10-day party. If you want changeable weather and wet feet, Spring. Every season is good but better for some goals. Winter can be a magical stunningly beautiful time of year. St Petersburg at night with light snow falling against millions of accent lights on beautiful buildings than winter is the time to come. Winters are a lot milder than the reputation. For 12-15 years we have had mild winters and not even much snow. We only had 3 snowfalls all year last year and one of them was April 1st. I never got out my winter coat last year and only a few times wore gloves. The historic weather before about 2009 was for much longer winters and colder temperatures. The favorite winter activities outdoors have faded, such as ice fishing, outdoor hockey, ice skating or cross country skiing. Chicago has much more cold weather than St Petersburg. It USED to be cold and long winters but now any more. My first visit was i 1976 and visited many times but finally moved here from California in early 2000.

      There is one method, that I use everytime, when I start learning a new language - pop music. I can guarantee you, that it WORKS! Not only you will find some new BOPS for your playlist, you will also master your language in weeks!
      So, I would advise you to check out:
      - t.A.T.u., a russian fake lesbo duo, known for their hit "All The Things She Said", their first Russian album "200 Po Vstrechnoy" is especially great and reflective of the climate and society of Russia at the time.
      -Luna, a Ukrainian singer, who sings in Russian and is considered to be the face of the Russian pop-revolution. All of her music is great. It's a mix of retro and soviet aestethics with jazz, trance and techno influences. Check out her albums "Остров Свободы" and "Транс".
      -Zemfira, the legend of Russian post-soviet music. No words are needed, she is the voice of the generation. Her magnum opus is her sophomore "Прости меня, моя любовь".
      Don't forget to check out some of Russian classic movies here on YT with subs. My fav is definitely "Москва слезам не верит", though you man not grasp all of the brilliance at first(the movie is very hard to digest without proper knowledge of the intricate details of the "simple soviet life"), the dialogues are great and will be especially helpful to help with your speaking lingvo.
      Good luck!

      I am a big fan of St Petersburg but although I love the metro and use it every day, it is beautiful on the #1 Red Line but does not compare the Moscow city center stations. The only problem with the Moscow metro is the sheer mass of people using it that you will run over by the crowds if you stop and admire the stations. Except for rush hour, St Petersburg metros at not crowded so you can usually find a seat. The stations are being added to every year or so but in Moscow, stations open every week. They are both artistic and engineering marvels. The SPb metros are deeper, down 330 feet for some stations. They all have free wi-fi and mobile phone cells own on the platforms than through the tunnels 3 football fields deep.
