I don't think the '20s would smell musty, I'd guess they smelled like cigarette smoke lol. That was when they were pushing the "health benefits," of smoking wasn't it?
Tbf, l'd imagine it would be smoke, alcohol, that paper smell that all cards have for some reason and perfume
Cigar smoke, spiced rum with hard vanilla notes, light floral perfumes, and home cooking.
Dont forget them just handing out tranqs like nobody’s business so the pharmacy pill smell

With all the cigarettes, I'd think it smells musty. Like the smoke has seeped into all the wood, and on rainy days the moisture in the air pulls out the smoke smell and makes clothes and bedding smell musty
I have a feeling that the basement of the first build was a speakeasy, since it's a 1920s build. My great grandparents met during their job of sneaking alcohol from the trains lol! I gotta say the 1970s house was my fave because it's so nostalgic for me to see,. growing up with relatives with that aesthetic in their homes.
YES so glad I'm not the only one here. I think of my relatives' houses I can kinda remember from when I was a kid, and stuff like shag carpeting, wood-paneled walls, and those macrame plant hangers hanging from the ceiling! come to mind. (Which is why I EEEE!ed when I saw the ones that you can make in Nifty Knitting.) I think of curtains and couches with bumpy embroidered patterns on them, and a time when people always just casually offered their guests booze. Maybe there's a piano in the corner. And those green-glass lamps. And crystal ashtrays on the coffee table. And...you get the idea.
Anyway that's kinda what I was going for with my own (also '70s) build, although I had to cut out a lot of stuff because I also wanted to see if I could make it basegame. :P
You can *absolutely* judge the 1970's by that orange and avocado green. 😂 It was EVERYWHERE in home decor. The kitchen in the house I grew up in was avocado green - the appliances, the cabinets, even the linoleum.
Add some mustard yellow and macramé and you've got the whole decade.
Oh god yes, the macrame. Especially MACRAME CEILING PLANT HOLDERS. I don't know why, but that's one of _the_ things that stuck in my head the most from my relatives' houses in that era.

As someone who grew up in the 70s I can confirm Avocado Green especially was everywhere and then harvest gold, pumpkin and a sort of tomato color. But the avocado reigned supreme! Did not care for it that much but am now nostalgic.
I put it all over my own '70s build for the same reason. Because yes, it was EVERYWHERE. :P
Also that barbie pink. It wasn’t as common but i remember our bathtub being that color

That's what mine would've been if (a) I hadn't been keeping it strictly basegame and (b) I had been going for more pricy-sleazy rather than cozy-sitcom. :P But they did use EXACTLY THE SAME DEBUG CAR that I did, down to the color! XD
I think the " shrine " in the church is where you would light a candle for your deceased loved ones. 🕯️
fun fact, the year 1666 was not part of the medieval era (that kind of ended around the Tudor era), but funny thing is that the great fire of London started in that year and by a baker that may have supplied bread to the Royal Navy (if i am wrong, please let me know)

I loved that one! It was like mine but on steroids. I agree with the person who said it gave them "Mad Men" vibes like YESSS...Such a fun place. It reminded me of the houses of relatives/friends of family I visited as a kid, only fancier and with everything shiny and new. :P

I made one based off of '70s sitcoms (yes, FGG, they definitely had those in the '70s. Some were super famous too.) It's not as awesome as the one in the video, but it IS basegame, so...(does hands like she's weighing two things) up to you. :P

Yeah they try but never go full out. Like the get famous pack definitely has 70s vibes but its not quite there

Lol, there were definitely queer communities in the '20s. Huge ones, as a matter of fact, but they weren't in secret basements, they were right out in the open. One of the big songs in the '20s was called "let's all be fairies" and another was called "masculine women, feminine men. And the "pansy craze" was a big thing. In the '30s being gay started to become stigmatized more, but the '20s was a shockingly progressive era. There were even quite a few gay characters in pulp novels and Broadway plays (look up "the captive" if you're interested in an example, it was one of the later plays that unfortunately pushed some of the conservative censure into place).
Due to the Depression, the '30s started becoming more conservative, and a lot of restrictive legislation was passed. Then WWII happened, and we all know how that went for us gays. Post WWII is when all of the "family value" stuff started being pushed, because we had a massively depleted population and almost no workforce, and that propaganda served to further alienate the community.
But anyway, the flag didn't happen until the late '70s. Prior to that, the pink triangle was the identifier people used to find each other (one of the first things we "reclaimed").
Sorry for the history lesson, it's just massively fucking fascinating to me that all of the stigma that I grew up with in the 80s/90s was, at the time, a fairly new mindset, only about 50-60 years old.
If you're interested in learning more, googling "gay culture in the 1920s" brings up some great info. It's a rabbithole though, be careful 😜

I've lived in many, many apartments and now I live in a townhouse. SO. MUCH. BETTER. I feel like I live in a real house (but CHEAPER) and I really rarely hear anything from other units. Occasionally keys jingling from my neighbor right next to me but that is only when I'm sitting in my living room, never my second floor. Townhouses are an affordable way to feel like you live in a house lmfaooo.
Thanks, my family is about to move to a townhouse next month. Have been mad pissed att our neighbours the last year. Always lived in apartments but only now that we got young men living next door I can't handle it. It's gonna be lovely to have a next to a real house soon 😁
I love the addition of music in the background! They really help set the vibe. I noticed around 12:24 for the Sim Year 2300 build that the music was a little loud. Excellent video!

There's a simmer called Fortheluvofsims i think you'll love her!she's doing the decades challenge from 1890 to 2020 and she's doing bitlife controls my sins royal edition,the mideival challenge which is actually on hold and her medieval mini series vampires through time!She's She's close to 3k and you'll love her!She's also on 1950 on her decade challenge and is nearly on ep 100!
I just started my Sims Decades Challenge (well it's like 1905 in my game) and then this video is uploaded which feels like such perfect timing
the 1920s gay bar made me nearly cry from pure joy that's such a sweet build and it looks so warm and just...well, safe.
When I saw the description for a secret in the basement of the 1920s townhouse build I thought it was gonna be a speakeasy since the 30’s were famous for prohibition and illegal secret bars

Yay, mine can be briefly seen when she's scrolling through the tags in the beginning! :P (It's the "70s Sitcom House" one.) (Even THAT much is a big deal for me--these challenges have taught me that although I _have_ gotten much BETTER at building in the Sims, I'm still nowhere near actually GOOD.) On the one hand, I've never done anything feature-worthy...on the other hand, I've also never done a creepy basement. :P
Anyway yes, Fake Gamer Girl, they definitely had sitcoms in the '70s and I would know--I kinda based the living room/kitchen area in my build for this week off the houses in two of them. (The "Mary Tyler Moore" and "Bob Newhart" shows.) Sunken living room, little random balcony area off to the side, wooden walls, lots of brown, orange and avacado green, floral kitchen and of course a FULL LIQUOR BAR!
...ahem, I mean, it seems like (in TV shows from that era, at least) middle-class (ish) people are always like "Can I offer you a drink?" to their guests and they're like "Yeah, I'll have a scotch" or whatever. So the full-liquor bar actually makes sense.
(The garage on my cozy little sitcom house of course does nothing, BUT, _if_ we ever do get cars, that house already has a place to put one! :))

I love this. Decades challenges are something I've got into recently.
In the 20's there is actually diary's talking about how they lived as lesbain couples and gay couples living right next to eachother, and to the rest of the world they were just two straight married couples, when company would come over one of the partners would go to thier spouse's house so no one knew gay and lesbain couples were living together. Really cool history

I am absolutely obsessed with Sims retro bulids. My Newcrest isn't set in the past, but it's full-on 50s nostalgia with its own diner, retro motel and mid-century houses! (and an abandoned construction site inhabited by a street gang, but that's just a detail)

Since you kinda asked, the TARDIS isn't invisible to everyone, it's just that most people would see it and think "huh, weird, wtf is a police box?" and move on with their day bc who cares. That's the explanation in the show, anyway.
The original idea was that it was supposed to automatically turn into something that would be unnoticed in whatever setting it landed in...and then got STUCK in the police-box form. Later on the Doctor had the ability to fix it, tried several times, messed up, then was able to ACTUALLY fix it and went "Nah" because the police-box shape had become tradition. :P

My sim I specifically made wearing a fedora because he's an annoying hipster running a restaurant because I was grumpy.
The chapel is gorgeous and the '70s house is super-fun and groovy. Not gonna lie, I'd live there unironically. (I mean, the place I live in right _now_ was made in 1974 and literally has those wood-panelled walls, so...)
And also AAAAAA SIMS 4 INTO THE FUTURE! SIMS 4 INTO THE FUTURE! :D
(Actually like the second family I made in Sims 4 had a backstory where one of the members was actually a robot who was allowed to live after the almost-war because he was one of the nicer ones, but had to have a human living with him to keep an eye on him I MEAN um....make sure he integrates properly into human society. Yeah.)

my only legacy challenge was my decade challenge. and I made it. My last sim (Mylom) was a young adult and had a baby when 2010 ended in my game. was very cool

Is it Bessie's fault that she has a business that is recession proof. No matter where you live misery loves company, and at the tavern is where they gather. Anyway, that said, I think what the Sims team needs to do is "The Decades", now that would be a kit! I can see it now for the 20's (1920's), have one old fashion radio, a flapper suit, jazz music radio channel, bring back newspapers with a news stand, a movie theater--that shows old black and white reels (as they call them) of the news--you know like the Great Gasby and the Grapes of Wraith. The kids can have old fashion wind up toys made from tin. Now that would be worth 5 dollars American.

Since turks are the majority of non-natives here, hookah bars are called Shisha bars here. I never even heard the word "hookah" until I watched american youtubers
But apparently, shisha refers to the tobacco and flavor mix while hookah is the actual pipe "instrument"
