You may've been able to also use some really really simple porcelain tiles. Though, porcelain tiles would've been a luxury till laminate was invented.

I created a similar challenge for Sims 3 where you started in 1800 and each day = one year. You start out with a little bit of money, but other than that you had to keep to historical facts. No bicycles until the 1830s (horses and walking only), no electricity, no indoor plumbing, no jobs unless you wanted the hassle of having your Sim horseride to work, etc. I never made it past the Edwardian Era, so this will be interesting to watch.

"1890s was the start of the Victorian era" - Incorrect.
Queen Victoria (who the era is named after) reigned from 1837 until her death in 1901. The 1890s was like the final chapter of the Victorian era.

Correction: Electricity did actually exist around the 1880's - 1890's. It was very primitive, but very simple light bulbs had been invented and used at the time.

1890 was not the start of the Victorian era. The Victorian era was 1837-1901, so if anything it was the end.
edit : I haven't finished and i can tell she isn't educated on this topic. They did in fact have ways of telling if a woman was pregnant, like peeing on hay. Also, painting was admirable in woman during that time. Also, the chances woman would be able to read is low, unless they had an educated husband whom was okay with it.

As a historian, the inaccuracies are killing me but I know it’s the best it’ll get. Also most women worked outside of the home during this time because most families could not afford to keep a wife at home. This was the time of monopolies and tons of factory work.

Cool! Mine is ancient too, but it doesn't have that. Mine was kind of a communal home so multiple families lived (and probably died) here over the years and they've updated things. Then my dad changed a lot of it before we moved in. It still has ancient windows and poor insulation, but it's an okay house.

Well they didn't have pregnancy tests as we know them back then but women used to pee on wheat sprouts and watched them over a few days. The pee of a pregnant woman lets the sprouts grow super quickly and that's how they knew.

I have a Decade Challenge going on the sims, I am only on the 1930s and so much had happened. My first sim had six kids, first she had three daughters but I needed a son. Finally the fourth kid was a boy. And was like ok no more kids. THEN she got pregnant the literal day before she became an elder, and her husband (who was already an elder) DIED before she had the kids! And then she dies when the kids are still children. The kids are raised mostly by their older brother who is an adult now and had kids of his own. He had three kids with his beautiful wife (it definitely wasn’t four and one got taken away). Him and his wife had a wonderful marriage, till she had an affair with the nanny. The husband didn’t find out until the baby was born and look nothing like him. But being a selfless man, he raised the other man’s child cause the father died (did I forget to mention the nanny was and elder?) And kicked his wife out and divorced her. The kid that came from the affair was my favorite sim, and he was also my sims’ favorite sim. Like everyone loved him. There is so much more that has happened, like affairs, one night stands leading to triplets, neglectful parents, etc.

Wow...this looks like such a hard challenge XD
    Good luck
The victorians was starting to have electricity and gas I think but there was not many safety rules and fires or explosions would happen
They also liked patterned walls in their homes but the colour green contained arsenic and some victorians became ill
Another factor was milk for infants, they sometimes bottle fed with milk and to prevent it from going off they put a special chemical in there, it actually hid the smell of spoilt milk but the bacteria was still in there and that caused illness in many infants, less so in adults because adults would need more of the chemical to become very ill but they could still become unwell just less likely but for infants it could lead to death
