"I don't like shaping" what a statement to make but I understand what he said about the aesthetics about geometry, the lines, the edges, and the simplicity of the design. sometimes I feel like when watching models that got too complicated and detailed, that something is missing. it felt like that origami design doesn't just get better with even higher complexity. if a model can be simple, fun to fold, realistic, and elegant, wouldn't that be great? but maybe the real problem is that we still can't decide what "realistic" really is, and what is the importance of it. maybe it's not about realistic, but about invoking the emotions of the audience, and the folders, which doesn't necessarily need the most complex model or the most true to life model to achieve, otherwise there won't be so many dragon models out there. maybe that's why sometimes I got emotional watching some of the simpler designs, thinking that they're just so damn elegant and pretty, that they're so simple that you can't take one element of it out without losing it's spirit, but it got all the essential spirits inside that simple model that makes them "authentic". don't mind me, just trying to write down some quick thought before they slip away.
Great thoughts! I do like complex models but for me sometimes the real aesthetic and emotion is lost in some of them. I think designers like satoshi kamiya manage to mix the emotional part with a huge complexity. On the other hand I really like designers that put effort into making models more easy to fold!
I fell in love with Oriol's models after folding his nosy cat and i've been hooked ever since. It was a huge honour when he started commenting on my fb posts featuring his works, he's a lovely human being in a fantastic community of paper folders.
Waw, this concept is really nice !! Like.we have the habitts to fold known models..but we don't always know who is behind, so thank you very much for that :)
That was very interesting! I already ordered the new book, so it was great to learn more about the man behind it. There seems to be an odd audio issue though: using my headphones, Esteve's voice only comes through the left side, though the music comes through on both sides. And my first model was in third grade, so idk what it was. But a crane, jumping frog, or some other beginner model seems likely.
Unfortunately I didn't know him before, so I'm glad that you made this short video! I like his designs - especially the mouse, since a mouse was my very first model I folded almost 20 years ago.
Amazing interview, I found really interesting how he started folding and designing just a few years ago, very inspiring. Anyone knows where can I get the face mask he’s wearing?
This interview is lovely, I adore his models. My one critique of this format is that the guitar music in background is too distracting for me.. maybe instead some dreamy synths?..
I think the first models I had done was a samurai hat or cranes then started getting into kusudamas since lol. Id love to do complex models (really the most complex I had done was katsuta's duck) but I need to get bigger and better paper.
Katsuta's duck is not that easy ;) I think you can easily find good paper for complex models. I have some rolls of wrapping paper (kraft is a good one) that cost like 2 euros for 5 meters of paper and they are good for testing complex models. If you want to make really nice looking models I think origami-shop.com is the best resource to find your papers.
What was the first origami model you ever made?

Such honesty! The world is still beautiful because of people like Oriol.
That's absolutely right!
I couldn't agree more

I cannot disagree with that!
Fantastic video with an amazing folder and an even more incredible person. Oriol is the best!
Thank you!
Great interview and video! Oriol's works are an inspiration, so excited to see the series "unfold." 😁
Yeaahhh! We are so excited as well to hopefully interview more and more designers to know their stories
Gracias por la entrevista, Sr. Esteve ❤

That is also our idea behind this video!
Thanks for the interview. I’m going through a similar phase in life due to COVID. My first origami model would be a traditional boat👍
Sorry to hear that, I hope origami will give you good energy!
I've been doing the 366 challenge this year and it's really helped me throughout the covid19 pandemic.
Oh I didn't hear about that challenge :o
I like this Meet the origami artist series JM!
Thank you so much!

With our limited editing skills we weren't able to solve this problem... Thank you for your comment!

@@JMsOrigamiTutorials Many thanks again! Can't wait to see your other interviews as well!
@@valentinfejes For the moment there are none but we are trying to make other interviews!
The concept is great! I have to point out thought that Oriol's voice is coming out of my left ear only
Yes we are aware of this issue but we didn't know how to adapt it in imovie :o

Amazing interview, I found really interesting how he started folding and designing just a few years ago, very inspiring. Anyone knows where can I get the face mask he’s wearing?
I have no clue haha I would ask him personally :p
My first model was the monkey from Zülal Aytüre-Scheele 's book "Hobby Origami".
Interesting!
What do you call that kind of paper with the gold?
@Robert Shea Yes indeed washi deluxe!
Show 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Good suggestion! I have to admit we didn't really know which music would be the best
