More of that song! Surprising how good that sounds, I've always considered the Gurdy to be more of a solo instrument but your Gurdies complement each other. Johannes seems cool, have him on again. :)
Vicose is vegetable matter dissolved in nitric acid and alcohol then extruded. If you spin it and make fabric you have rayon. "Cotton Vicose" is the fiber from the plasticised wood pulp. A natural plastic origination with what to do with mountains of sawdust from lumber processing. Suggestion on the natural cotton; use a hair comb to remove bits of twig and cotton hull. For small quantities making "combed cotton" is easy. Natural cotton will still have bits of the plant. Combed cotton will have the bits combed out. But the cottonseed oil, with the characteristic scent, is still there. Washed cotton has the oils removed. e.g. cotton balls from the makeup section of a store. ... from growing up with a grandfather who was foreman in a cotton gin and warehouse.
I’ve never seen anyone nerd out over cotton before. First time for anything though. Great smile Patty. Patty, your Gurdy sounds a lot more clear than your friends. His sounds a little more raw? I assume this is because the build is different?
Love your work on hurdy gurdy along with you on Stormseeker! Great stuff. Sold my sister on it as well(shes the singer/musical talent) even with your voice a little rrrroughh.😁 We love it. Keep up the good work chick, yer gonna b famous!!!😎😎😎😎
Hi I think you are tooo COOL your music talent is over the edge I build custom 2 , 3 , and 4 string guitars so looking at your gurdy it's great the green is great make more music vids I loved sweet dreams just started playing it on a 3 string Irish Hurley stick guitar with 1963 single coil pick up sounds extreme thanks for the music please keep playing
Hearing the two of you noodling away on your gurdies made me think - I think it was some of the musical phrases you & Johannes used - of Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters". I think you could do an amazing hurdygurdy version of that song.
I enjoyed the video, I mostly use viscose, but tried much weird stuff, like soya fiber or wool!Wool is lovely you should try 🙋🏼♀️ btw Johanes is a WOW player I remember the time I saw him playing in front of Rebollo stand in france at LSC and It freaked me out!!
One material that would've been good to include is silk ... I've been using silk on my chantrelles (and occasionally on the drones) for 15+ years, weavers silk, undyed ... very long strands, need to be pulled apart and "woven" a bit to apply .. but, it's very strong and lasts and lasts on the strings. It does take some getting used to get it to wind on the strings (because of the length of the fibers) but once you get it it's great... I haven't used cotton in years
Wow Holy crap! Damn what awesome !! I wonder how much does Hurdy Gurdy cost? I like the color of your green gurdy. I have never seen anything like this before. Is it hard to learn to play on that one? I've said this before but I want to hear you together with Archy Jay (The Snake Charmer) and Chelsea Joy - (Lady of Drones) Jane Espie (Phantom Piper) and Lindsey Stirling !! It would have been so awesome !!
She told us in another video that her current gurdy costs about 8000 euros, and that playing a gurdy wasn't difficult for her, but that might also be because she has 12+ years of piano and band experience, which gives her the ability to move her hands independently and giving her an extremely good musical feeling.
I thought that the hole surface of the wheel is made of the cotton. I'm surprised that you need to round the small piece of cotton on every string in order to play... How often do you need to do it?
Patty is as pretty as ever, Johannes seems like a cool dude and I would not mind him making future appearances. Kinda funny at 0:59 his facial expression reminds me of Samwell from Game of Thrones, also nice hoody.
Our family appreciates your skills as a vocalist and musician. Will you be having a pre-release sale of you album via Patreon or Kickstarter? I would certainly prepay for a signed copy at a higher rate.
Hola Patty!
235/5000 Patty because of you I love the Hurdy-Gurdy by the way you are amazing, beautiful and you have a great talent. I really like that I want a Hurdy but I'm from Mexico and it's very expensive and very difficult to get one :( so I'm building a Hurdy
Hey Patty, 4 years later, with the all new option of vape cotton, maybe it's time for a new cotton test video? New products like VapeHero or Firebolt might actually be worth a peek...
In concert in a solo setting, could you have two identical strings, one being a backup? Or does the cotton wear at a slower rate than I'm thinking? PS Thank you Patty for my redhead fix of the day.
Just goes to show there is a different way to prepare your instrument depending upon your tastes. I wonder about other fibers, Like Silk? I saw that mentioned before in a comment too! What else have you tried?
I have a question. When you compared the first two kinds of cotton you said that one (Risco's?) was a natural fiber but was also chemically made. Those two terms can not go together. It is either Natural or Man-Made. Can you clarify this for me? I suspect it is just a grammar issue since Gerrman & English are almost opposite grammatically LOL
More of that song! Surprising how good that sounds, I've always considered the Gurdy to be more of a solo instrument but your Gurdies complement each other. Johannes seems cool, have him on again. :)
I absolutely love the sound of those instruments, very lovely.

I love Johannes gurdy's sound, it's very deep and warm ! Thanks for the video, instructive !
I’ve never seen anyone nerd out over cotton before. First time for anything though. Great smile Patty.
Patty, your Gurdy sounds a lot more clear than your friends. His sounds a little more raw? I assume this is because the build is different?
I love the two gurdies together! I hardly ever hear that. So awesome. He plays really well too. I wish you could post a full version of that song.
Fascinating- never realised there was so much difference in cotton wool!
Please invite Johannes back again.
Good to see you and Johannes together. I know some of his work from Facebook. The rapport between you is lovely.🙂
I have zero musical talent or inclination, but nerdy shop talk is universal and that's what makes this fun watching for me. Thanks!
Always informative and entertaining!! Hail Patty!!
The sound of you two together was amazing!!!
You did an amazing Job on Tour with ASP. We saw you live twice, in Dresen and Oberhausen. You were a fanstatic Kantorka.

Just found your music and videos. I love random UA-cam playlist. You find great stuff. Anyway. New fan.
I like the green marble effect on her instrument. Also I was hoping for a playoff like dueling banjos in deliverance but on green hurdy gurdys

And here is me thinking cotton was just cotton...thanks for the video! You both have made me 1 level smarter today.
Hearing the two of you noodling away on your gurdies made me think - I think it was some of the musical phrases you & Johannes used - of Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters". I think you could do an amazing hurdygurdy version of that song.
*I probably get a hurdy gurdy the next year :D*
Have you?
I love how the camera zooms on Johannes when he takes the cotton at the start

Does he have a UA-cam channel to? Where can I find more from him?
Just search for : Just Gurdy or Just Cue

Patty Gurdy is the prettiest girl on the whole planet. My goodness
Patty would love to see you remake an Loreena McKennitt song either murmurs dance, or Mystic Dream. Both of these are amazing songs.

Beautiful vídeo 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
great jam
love it! 2 green gurdies :)
I know little about music, very little about hurdy gurdys and NOTHING about tampons. Why am I sitting here with a very satisfied smile on my face?
BTW, those eyes at 7:15!!
Johannes can barely speak. He knows he is in the presence of greatness.
What sounds better than a gurdy? Two gurdys, of course! :)
dope instrument!!
What a beautiful and talented young lady!
Ur awesome Patty absolute zuckermaus😁 nice instruments too!
I thought that the hole surface of the wheel is made of the cotton. I'm surprised that you need to round the small piece of cotton on every string in order to play... How often do you need to do it?
Caulking cotton from wooden boat chandlery just what you need
Hi Patty, do you have any tips for someone who is interested in learning how to play a Hurdy Gurdy?
I’d like to send you some Pima cotton from Arizona sometime. :)
Patty is as pretty as ever, Johannes seems like a cool dude and I would not mind him making future appearances. Kinda funny at 0:59 his facial expression reminds me of Samwell from Game of Thrones, also nice hoody.
You actually said Jaime Rebollo pretty well!
Our family appreciates your skills as a vocalist and musician. Will you be having a pre-release sale of you album via Patreon or Kickstarter? I would certainly prepay for a signed copy at a higher rate.
so, long viscose cotton, that has been colored green is the "best" option :D
Hej! Just curious, but does it work at all with wool? And What did they use in the old days? Thanks for intresting video!
Can I ask for a link to the song at the very beginning and the end?
I really want to learn this instrument, this video was a great help, thank you!!!!
Couch matches hurdy gurdy!
on my 3-string gurdy the bass notes sound fine, the high notes are off-tune. how do i fix this?
There is something called calcium algenate and comes in many forms. One form is called angel hair. I think it may work for you.

Aí love Patty 💕✨😍
Is there a way to get Sheets for this beautiful Song? 😊
I loved the video because for all the no gurdists this has to be so wtf 😂 but to me this is so helpful!
Hand picked cotton is the best. Machine picked damages the fibers.
I wonder where I van find a gurdy /ω\
I live in Florida so it's hard to find one.
Is there a video for the theme song of the channel somewhere?
I love you guys. I was wondering could I use any of your music for sample intro's with my music I am working on Pretty please?
Hey Patty, 4 years later, with the all new option of vape cotton, maybe it's time for a new cotton test video? New products like VapeHero or Firebolt might actually be worth a peek...
Does anyone know if her music is on Google play store

Just goes to show there is a different way to prepare your instrument depending upon your tastes. I wonder about other fibers, Like Silk? I saw that mentioned before in a comment too! What else have you tried?
have you guys tried using silk?
where do they get their gurdys?
I am not a player, but I have to wonder why cotton, and not wool fibers, or even silk ?
