I've always thought it was interesting how Patty's accent changes as she visits other places or moves into a new place. Maybe it's just because I listen to accents and where they come from.
Just discovered her yesterday and with the red hair and Celtic sounding music I was expecting an Irish accent when she talked but knew right away she must be German but has obviously been speaking English for some time. English is the universal language because of American TV shows I think. Everybody has picked up on our language and culture from movies and TV.
I really enjoyed hearing you share your experiences. Sorry summer is so miserable for you! See if you can book some festival shows in coastal California! The summers are delightful here. I'll be sure to come see you :)
Recently became a huge fan of the gurdy after watching Stephan Groth playing with Faun and then your videos came up! As a brass and guitar musician and vocalist, the gurdy might be next on my list to learn. IF I can afford one! Ooh the Kalimba/Mbira sounds like a great instrument to learn as well. Very interesting design. Thank you for your videos and music!
Your accent is beautiful. I know it's a tricky compliment. I'm a French Canadian and I have a hard time accepting when people tell me I have an accent, but yours is just plain beautiful!
Being a native-born Texan, I learned at an early age to accept the idea that _everyone_ - myself included - has an accent and a dialect of some sort. The other 49 states habitually remind us that the Texan accent is a rather unique thing, and we ourselves acknowledge the Texan _dialect_ every time we use words, pronunciations, phrases or figures of speech that nobody else says (ie. "y'all" or "ro-DAY-o" or "Remember the Alamo"). ;-)
Feel your pain on the heat, here in Texas, in the ol' USA, we have had a string of 102-108 and expect it for the next full week except for a week cold front coming in on Thursday to drop it in the 90's. Stay cool, totally enjoy the Q&A's and the Music.
Hello from an Irish man in Germany (Darmstadt). I like the sound of your music and I think the Gurdy would definitely fit in with Irish music (pre-organised tunes obviously). I don't think you have an Irish accent (sorry), but very similar to my students here (a sort of mixture of everything fusing into a Denglish accent. Stay awesome!
Ur the best artest, u have inspired me so much in life, i have been listening to ur music for a long a time, without ur music i wont be here today, so thank u so much, ur inspirartion has keep me alive thank so much, ur fan chris
Love your performances! I've learned German from a very young age, although being from the U.S. and a fairly remote area, they're aren't many German speakers around me. Unfortunately my speech has become fragmented over the years while also trying to learn 4 other languages so I can travel in the future. Tangent being over, I've always loved Central European and Northern/Nordic music and instruments as most of my family is from there (Irish/Norse) Anyway, here's to much prosperity and fortune for you in the future!
Hey Patty, that is what swimming is for.... I love the Hurdy gurdy, I can hear it being interesting with guitars and possibly other folk instruments. May have to play parts and take turns but I am quite creative. I could hear them blending well too really although you would have to take turns with melodies. Almost like a bass drone for guitar.... would be neat to try
Thank you Patty!! You are a lovely young lady with talent. Please continue singing your voice and music is beautiful. Come to Fiji Islands someday. We would love to watch and hear you play!! But sorry we have a lot of summer!!
No army could defend against a small group of Patty's. Patty, please remember that freedom is the opposition of captivity. So dramatic, I know, but if you were to be cloned, and coarsened, the world could be drawn to it's knees. The entire internet community needs a cold shower after watching you,. Besides that, your wisdom and knowledge is apparent and appreciated. I am a Gurdy fan and enjoy your humor, thank you.

I have several questions, Patty... 1) Would you like to learn some Celtic languages??? What is your zodiacal sign??? 5) What musical genres don't you like??? Why???
Really enjoy your videos. And your music.. And your accent, if I'm honest. I find your information on the gurdy very interesting. Thank you for blasting these out. Good luck with summer.
When I first saw your channel I thought you were Irish. I was surprised when I found out you were germin. Your music is different but I love it. I will just listen to it over and over when I'm bored. I am actually a musician my self. I played trumpet for 6 years.
Would love to see a video of you with your kalimba 😊 I was wondering what your accent was, since you'd mentioned before that you were German! Makes sense that it's is a fusion.
Same, I work in customer services too so I get alot of `Isn't it nice now that it's warm out? Aren't you happy it's sunny? Aren't you upset to work on a gorgeous day like this?' and iterations thereof. It's easier to get warm than cold, and I don't tan; I go straight from white to red.
I wanted to add on the irish trad sessions. Depends to which session you go, in my irish session we beforehand tell people which tunes we are going to play and what key they are in. Also the most common irish trad tunes are in G, D, A and E(m).
I am so confused. Your German but lived in the UK, but fiery red hair. I clicked the subscribe button because I thought you were Irish. I stayed because I like your music! Oh and I came here first to find out what a hurdy gurdy was. Nice job young lady, of confusing this old man.
About time I see proper eye makeup. It is beautiful! Most women no days looks like they have black eyes or are addicted to something. Thank you for looking gorgeous. .
I haven't successfully built one yet, the wheels been a bastard to cut without a proper workshop, but I've been working on a kind of simple gurdy that might work against the tuning problem. Specifically, one that can play chromatically on all it's strings, plus maybe one drone that can still be adjusted on the fly, but less so. Specifically, I made the design to primarily use 4 fingers, with the strings tuned like viol family instruments, partially because I'm a violinist, and partially because those are really common ranges and tunings, which makes sheet music easy to come by and make use of, so long as you can improvise the "double stops". To achieve this, you'd grip the instrument like a tagelharpa rather than a normal gurdy. All of the keys would also be the same length regardless of the string, specifically so that you can use your thumb like a slide, adjusting the "open string" on the fly, and bringing the drone string, whatever that was tuned to, with it, with said drone having a single key at each different hand position. If I hadn't been working with a small medieval style box case that didnt have enough room, I'd have included a trompet with switch tuning, like you get on harps. That being said, I think I'm not good enough with the fiddly work yet to make the key box, so I'll probably have my next attempt be a fretted gurdy and be done with it.
I've just found you're channel today, and then obviously only hearing you're music for the first time, I was blown away, I am very impressed by the talents with instruments and you're harmonic voice, think you've gotten a new fan and most definitely a new sub, if you do anymore Q.A's could I just request that you say dandilion I love the way it sounded with you're accent I don't know why but it brought a smile to my face, best of luck with any future stuff you do, and thank you so much for doing what you do
Well Patty your Music is AMAZING. Your a gorgeous stunning irish Lass Keep up the Amazing music and the Irish Traditional folk music burning strong. Sean Carritt from Zimbabwe, Southern Africa.
Hello Patty, just throwing an idea out there for you, on having the Hurdy Gurdy set up in one tuning...and wanting to play in another tuning while on stage...have a second or third instrument made and une it to the favoured other tunings. I do this with several violins ...as a fiddler most of us play only in a few keys( to use our open strings)...so for me keeping a few other fiddles in other tunings... just one note up... on all strings and one note down on all strings on another instrument ...makes the keys of C, E, and F as easy as G, D and A...but that is the fiddle. With the fiddle vs. the violin...we have other strange tunings as well that we play with, where as violists stick with the GDAE tuning. Having back up instruments are always a good thing... takes the stress off having a one of a kind instrument and touring. Anyhow...I very much enjoy your videos, you skills are great...you are very entertaining. Wish you much luck and will watch to see if you ever get here to Japan.
I love your Gurdy and your singing. You are so talented and now also, funny. Please come to California and do a concert someday, in Spring or fall of course. Edward in Souther California

I purchased a small African kalimba on a whim. I got pretty good coming up with melodies on the thing and would take it on camping trips and other outings. I don't know what happened to it .. I must have lost interest. Now I cherish every single instrument that comes into my possession and have started a small collection (guitar, banjo, mandolin, violind). Cute video... looking forward to hearing future music and video. Maybe someday you'll find yourself visiting my home state of Portland Oregon. At least you'll love our weather.
Love you and your music (in the most non-creepy manner possible). 😊 My wife and I used to live in Massachusetts and we moved to Florida. So, being tired of the snow storms and blizzards, we traded New England weather for Florida Hurricanes.
