- Limousines, tractors, supercars and even a horse and cart ensured Tiverton High School pupils arrived in style at their prom.
Year eleven leavers enjoyed the glitzy ceremony at the Tiverton Best Western Hotel on Friday, June 1 with hundreds of well wishers joining them as they strolled up the red carpet.
Carol Gregson, teacher at Tiverton High School said: “It’s completely awesome to see all the year elevens arrive after all the hard work that they've done for their exams to be able to celebrate like this and look so beautiful, all of them.
“It’s a very important day for them all. It’s always important to do things together as a community and really important to see the parents and supporters and friends here as well. It’s great to be here at the Tiverton Hotel, in the middle of the town celebrating an awesome year group.
“They’ve been through a very challenging time and I'm extremely proud of them and how they've all responded and come together and worked so hard and are now enjoying themselves this evening. They deserve every minute of it.”
Head girl Polly Mortimore said: “It’s so lovely to be here with everybody. It's crazy how everyone's grown up so quickly and we've seen everybody grow up. It's lovely to see everybody dressed up to welcome in a new chapter of their lives.
“There’s a lot of stress and effort that goes into getting ready for the prom night but everyone has pulled it off well.
“It's such a relief to be able to have our prom finally. There was lots of stress over the last years whether we would get to do or not. We are relieved that we can do it and be together as year group.”
Head boy Jayadev Soj who arrived in a limo added: “Five years has gone so quickly. We have made a lot of memories and I have loved being the head boy of Tiverton High School too. It's been a great opportunity to make the school a better place for everyone.
“It feels spectacular to be here tonight. Everyone looks great, both teachers and students, it’s just great to be together. Everyone is so happy, that’s what I’m enjoying about tonight, everyone has a smile on their face. It will be an emotional night. These five years all these staff members have been with us throughout difficult times and they've always been there. It's going to be hard to say goodbye, but life goes on.”
