It can't replace s22u, but is nice try from sony, but the fact that they put 4k display in 6.5 inch phone is deal breaker because you doesnt need 4k in phone IF you doesnt use VR and btw this is the reason why samsung made a ridiculous win in display department 2k better than 4k in phones because nobody cant see 650 pixels per inch on 6.5 inches 🤣🤣
@@Diamond_Hands_Hodler apple beat Samsung so easily when it come to performance and does in turn getting beaten by sony but the reason sony doesn't show up because they can't manage to solve the heating issue..that is all because the phone is to thin to add more cooling stuff and they don't want thick phone... if you say Samsung is best try play game on your phone after an hours it performance drop after it get warm.. and camera everyone says Samsung took good portrait photos,I agree but that is only happen when you give enough time and less distance otherwise in 1 click and go it doesn't perform very well
@@Diamond_Hands_Hodler actually Samsung portrait is the worst in the market in these recent years it only improve with note 20 and getting good with s21 line up slightly more good with s22 line up.. but still it cannot take portrait at a distance compared to iPhone and other brand phone..when I took image portrait between 6m to 10meter it says stay a little bit closer or 3 to 4 meter
3 reasons why I can't go back to Samsung: 1.) I need a headphone jack in my phone. 2.) I need a micro-SD card slot in my phone. 3.) I need a screen without holes and notches on my phone.
I loved my Sony Xperia always went with them but they cowardly aka anti consumer choice left the market globally sparking out rage, Samsung is a dying breed unless they can listen and bring back the SDcard slot their going to lose more than they can chew...
Sony was ahead of the game so long ago. One of the first to waterproof, use NFC and they even created a better version of Dex for the tablet Z4 back in the day. It's such a shame they don't get recognized for their innovation and more importantly rewarded with sales.
They should be more objective. A phone is a phone to begin with. As nice as the features are a phone is used as a phone not as a pro camera. Ima point and shoot on a phone. This phone is designed for tech enthusiasts and content creators but for a normal person those features aint justifiable for them. Personally i wont pay 2000 to get a phone that looks outdates, has a poor auto mode camera. The phone is good but what i want it to do well it doesnt
I've had a Sony Xperia 1 since they came out and while the build quality is great and I do like the phone it also is plagued with problems. Never really got great service/signal or Internet and just seemed kind of buggy.
@@stephaned3072 then that won't be Sony anymore. That'll just be one of those brain dead point and shoot mainstream phone. Sony wants people to be creative and think. Not zombies who doesn't care about any of that.
Reject sim, restart is ahead 😂 No double tap to wake is ahead 😂 4000mah in 2022 is ahead 😂 Oled in 2022 is ahead 😂 No indisplay fingerprint in 2022? 😂 1 min record video is force close 😂 Garbage company, always slow.
No doubt that the Galaxy S22 Ultra is a great phone, but I'll go for the Sony Xperia 1 IV. Overall it's got faster performance, the best 4K OLED display in market, and extremely professional imaging options, as the Photo Pro and Video Pro. As you can see, except the selfies, the images on the Xperia is much clearer and more rich in details. Guess it's almost a question of taste, but the Sony Xperia 1 IV is a better and more viable experience than the Galaxy S22 Ultra or iPhone 13, dispite the pricetag. By the way, how can it ever be fair, for the Sony, not to use Pro modes in comparison, isn't it about to show the best possible performances? It's a Sony...
I remember the Xperia I III having overheating issues when it was first released, but updates have seemed to solved that particular issue. I would expect Sony to push out some updates that will fix the overheating.
I have Xperia 1iv , I bought it a day ago I got two updates. I updated the phone and so far I have not noticed any annoying heat. The phone is very normal, not as some people have said I don't know if the updates solved the problem or not, but the most important thing is that I did not experience any heat The thing I liked the most about Xperia 1iv is the battery life, much better than Xperia pro i and Xperia 1 iii
Hey, so I really want the Mark 4 or Mark 5. My issues with Sony are they only get two years of android updates. The trade in value is non existent, so if I want a new Xperia I'd have to rougkt pay full price. The update speed for Sony phones is too slow. Would you say it's worth it to get an Xperia? I have the S22 at the moment
@@stevesmith1918 I don't know what to tell you exactly, but for me two years of major updates and three years of security updates I think it's good for me because I replace my phone every year 😅 But in terms of the speed of updates, Android 13 reached my Xperia 1iv at the same time that it arrived for s22 ultra Also, security updates are not delayed In my opinion if you do not have a problem with updates for two years Sony phones will be great for you but i think Better to wait for Xperia 1v with 8 gen 2
Even tho the s22 ultra should be so so much brighter, the direct comparison that you showed in direct sunlight wasnt all that different tbh. Goes to show that NITS count is not a linear thing and our eyes will perceive those numbers a lot differently irl. Having said that it was curious to see that at 8:13 the sony seemed brighter while playing that HDR video. Guess that creator mode really does something
I run a OnePlus 8 Pro and I've been looking for any phone worth an upgrade for awhile. I recently got into FLAC audio and hifi equipment, so seeing expandable storage and a 3.5mm jack on the Sony is super tempting to me.
Keep in mind that the DAC on the Sony is not a hifi DAC. In fact, using a USB-C to 3.5mm jack on the S22 Ultra will give you much better audio quality since the AKG tuned DAC is 32 bit.
I own a Xperia 1 iii and have to say it takes better pictures when using the manual mode. These flagship phones that Sony keeps making are more direct for content creators and so I don't think it's for everyone. It's why it has the cinema pro, video pro and now the music pro. I never use the auto or basic mode when taking pictures. I'm sure once updates kick in, it will resolve those issues. Maybe, that's why you have a sample to review and who's to say Sony is not paying to UA-cam reviewers to see what they can fix before it comes out?
The resolution doesn't impact battery life much at all. Besides that, the Xperia 1 IV runs at a mere 1080p most of the time and can only run in 4K for certain apps (like games) and while using the camera modes. Battery optimisation is simply trash on Sony's end. Besides that, Samsung focuses far too much on making pictures 'better than real life'. Lots of people prefer fake, but fact of the matter is that Sony's images tend to be far more colour accurate the grand majority of the time. Samsung's pictures may pop more, but it doesn't pop like that in real life and real life tends to look a lt more 'flat' in comparison to these beter-than-real-life pictures from most modern phones. But yeah, the overheating is a major problem for the Xperia 1 IV. I do hope the update will mostly fix it. I honestly think it's rather unacceptable that they released a phone with this many heat issues in the first place this day and age (then again, I suppose the US is their main market and the rest of the world is just for beta testing). As for the price... if they do manage to fix the issues, the Xperia 1 IV definitely is worth the price for people intending to use it for professional things. As a casual consumer, whether it's the higher US price of $1600 or the lower price in most other places... I'd say it's a bit too lacking in too many areas. Their software processing is crap, they have a ton of different apps for taking pictures, videos and recording music... yet it lacks a good app that just throws everything together at a competent level for more casual usage... and I honestly don't quite understand why a high-end phone marketed as one for taking professional videos and pictures lacks a macro lens (and a telephoto lens for a 10x or more analog zoom would have been welcome as well). If the Xperia 1 IV fixed these issues and had no overheating issues, it would've been the #1 phone out there. Sadly they fell just a bit short on a few too many things for me to recommend it for casual usage. Only go for an Xperia 1 if you want a high-end phone with an 'above 1080p' resolution that doesn't have a damn hole on the screen. Like me. There is no alternative. Maybe the Xperia 1 III, but it will stop getting updated in a year or so and shortly after that you can say bye bye to using it for bank apps and certain other apps that require a phone that still receives security updates.
Hopefully they can fix that overheating issue. I have the mark 2 and I use my phone in direct sunlight while driving and using Waze. So this new Mark 4 would not survive those conditions unless they fix it of course.
Fair, fair do you charge your phone in the car while navigating? Because if it is really hot outside with like direct sunlight on your windscreen i really wouldn't advice charging your phone with those conditions.
As great as this video is, I chose the S20 Ultra over the last Xperia and I regret it. This phone has a good camera but my christ it's unwieldy. Later this week I pick up my Xperia 1 IV and I honestly can't wait.
This is my dream phone but I got the s22 ultra because it’s more refined. Hope Sony succeeds in the smartphone market their phones were always ambitious
My Sony Xperia Play was my favorite phone of all time. The built in game pad was an emulation dream. Unfortunately, it stopped working years ago. Sony really needs to step up their marketing again because most people don’t even know they still make phones. If they could match Samsung’s 4 year OS support and rebuild their mobile reputation, I would be more than glad to give them another shot.
Sony tends to hold back on some things for mahy of their products that basically drag it down from 'amazingest on the market' to 'appeals to a niche audience only'. If Sony went all out and instead made it a bit more expensive, but was pretty much the best of the best for nearly everything, I don't think anyone would be complaining. Sadly they didn't and now it's a bit more expensive than the competition, but still lacking in several important aspects. Even if it is capable of crushing the competition with many things, those few important things it sucks at that others do excel at do matter to many potential consumers. As a result they release products that are hard to recommend to those that don't fall within the niche audience they're aiming for. When with a little bit more... even with an even higher price, it could be the one recommendation for every single person that's willing to spend this much on a product because nothing else competes. Kinda like the Logitech G915. It's an expensive mechanical keyboard, but it's among the best on the market with most things and the combination of low profiel, comfort, slick design, fast wireless, excellent battery life, etc... really isn't found anywhere on the market. The €200-€250 it costs is more than justified since nothing else compares, for example.
How was your experience with S22 ultra after several months? I need to choose between them as soon as possible because Xperia's not very popular in my country and it's difficult to find them
Jonathan, this was a very informative and entertaining review video. You covered just about everything I was looking for plus a lot more I had no idea about. Your approach and style is spot on. I dig that you spent more including "what you know" vs "what you think". If only more folks would apply this philosophy in life. :) Appreciate!
Xperia 1 iv has almost solved overheating issue. Because when I bought. It was overheating in a minute when camera is working. But after several updates it is working normal.
Thank you for this comparison review. I am really impressed with the video stabilization the Sony demonstrated from 18:58 onward. Best demo I have seen of it. Thank you again!
I switched from a Huawei P20 Pro to an Xperia 1 IV and its a fantastic device. The screen is so overkill but god it's good. As a fan of taking photographs, the cameras are excellent and *contrary* to what a lot of reviewers 'claim', the camera is excellent in low light. Half of the problem is it doesn't pander to the heavily brightened 'night-modes' of competitors, but that doesn't make it bad. What it does do, very very well is take images that look like what you're actually seeing infront of you. The only real gripe I have, is it gets a bit warmer than other phones, though a recent firmware update seems to have, somewhat, mitigated that.
This is the best review of the 1 iv yet, although I do wish the perspective of a photographer/videographer was thrown in in the camera section, cause you can pull off miracles with their manual mode if you're knowledgeable. The video highlights flaws and strengths in a fair and unbiased manner, which I really like. Comparing it to another flagship is very eye-opening and paints a clear picture of its profile as a product.
I really appreciate the kind words here. I would have used the pro modes on both phones however that would be a little unscientific since each have different sized sensors and aperture’s. Also, the majority of the footage circulating from people on the Xperia 1 IV has been heavily graded and edited. Some samples are clearly edited since you can see the mask around subjects. I thought testing auto modes shows each phones ISP capabilities a bit more. Especially, when considering this is how the majority of consumers will use their phones.
@@OT4Tech I am aware, which is why I would've liked the input of someone who's able to use it to its fullest like this. While the s22 ultra produces good results but relies on processing that ends up tampering with the quality of photos/ videos, mainly halos, smoothed-out details and bringing up the noticeability of structures within images artificially and enhancing colors (which is reliant on its own interpretation of "better"), what the Xperia excels at is denying to go this route, instead accepting producing softer and less traditionally impressive (or eye-catching) images for the sake of faithfulness that can later be manipulated and result in a very high quality video or photo that feels very organic, without having to deal with the shortcomings of heavy algorithmical processing. Obviously the generalist and all-rounder approach fits a review the most and I have no issue with that, but since this device targets a specific pro group it would be nice to get that opinion. Still, great comparison man
NO for a crap BS like you... Overheating is almost fixed... Where is natural?! Take that crap fake colors and you fkn magic stick like for bozos not for pros. In Europe on some stores cheaper than S22. So foff painted washed one!

Photos on the Galaxy seem way oversaturated. They look "better" because you see more color but they are not closer to reality
@@OT4Tech Yeah samsung doesn't overexposed too much but sony in bright sunny days to get the best out of the camera had to use ND filter so that there is no overexposed otherwise no problem
I’m a student and was curious if you think I should replace my pro max with this. I have the watch and I enjoy it but IOS is quite restricting so I’m considering a s22 ultra and watch or make 4 and maybe the google watch later this year ?
I have the Sony Xperia 5 iii and ive used it in temperatures over 94 degrees fahrenheit and its never overheated it performs perfectly ive never had a problem unless i perform something too fast.
You don't need 32 bit audio. You don't even need 24 bit. To be able to hear the benefit of 24 bit over 16 bit, you need to be surrounded by deafening silence in the outer space, or play the audio at volumes that would make your ears bleed. What Sony should have put was a more powerful amp to drive high impedance wired headphones, not that Samsung can do that anyway.
you can make your s22ultra snappier by activating the developer options, then, adjust all the animation speed to 0.5x . i dont reccomend to turn off the animation though as that will make weird transitions.
So, let me see did i understood you good... You review Sony phone which goes in direction of natural photos, but you like oversaturated non-realistic photos more? Dude, why did you lose your time doing video like this? Does not have sense...
My Xperia XZ Premium was about £500, this one is nearly 3x as much. I can't justify that, especially with the overheating. Why can't the 10 IV have a dedicated shutter button?
With Samsung being the larger company and more sales volume it’s easier to lower the cost. With Sony it’ll take some support and time. It’s whether or not you also support their motives and moral. I’m still torn between the two. I love Sony for their attitude to the current generation, sticking to what is right and steadily working towards it rather than focusing on competitiveness. Samsung is bigger in the mobile sector thus more r&d thus better specs currently.
Have you tried using camera for a prolong period outside and see if it overheats? I would use camera a lot outside when I am travelling and really wish the heat issue won't hold me back on getting this phone.
Awesome video. Thanks to spend so much time to explain all the details for us. I like the micro SD and the 3.5 m jack entry on the Sony... But I like the S-pen on Samsung and I have a Galaxy Watch 4... I don't know what device can be better for me. Now I own a s10+ 😅🙂
Thanks for this! I've owned 2 s22 Ultras for just over a year, both have been great. However, I do notice the camera on one is noticeably sharper than the other phone.. kinda of annoying, when I'm highly dependent on that feature.
The Sony is for photographers who want to create beautiful content and the Samsung is for kids who run round with guns at the weekend and have bad teeth 😅
Your information about 4K on the Xperia 1IV is wrong. It's the width of 4K, but the height is 1640px rather than 2160px. That's why 4K doesn't make much of a difference. I love the 21:9 aspect ratio in Windows, but on a phone? It doesn't make as much sense since most of my content consumption is videos at 16:9 or 18.5:9. It's not like I'm using Android at the screen's native DPI.
Is it still worth bying? It is now sold for less than 650 usd new in Europe. Or down to under 300 usd refurbed. I bought mine for 190 usd. It is a outlet Phone now.
I used to use xperias in past then switched to Samsung. I'm currently using s21 ultra. I'm torn between s22 ultra and this sony. I'm bored with Samsung in a sense. I don't take many photos but want to start getting into it more. I love my music and I do miss the headphone jack and notification light. What would you recommend? Also what fitness watch would you recommend with the sony?
S21u is so similar to s22u unless u want a note like design not worth upgrade. My bf has s21 they are almost the same. Even had note 20u similar as well just better cameras on s22u
Sony have audio pro,hi ress audio,a unique 360 ° spatial sound, wich is great experience when you listen audio,3.5 mm headphones jack, Hi ress wireless audio...
I am in the same boat. This week I'm picking up the Sony, I've had enough of Samsung. Large, unwieldy and frankly overrated. It was a good video and to each their own I guess.
120Hz will get it overheated in a matter of minutes. 60Hz will be able to work for a lot longer, especially if you have stamina mode on and 24Hz simply doesn't overheat, even at 35 degrees celsius.
60hz also overheated for me. What's the point of buying a $1,600 phone to keep it in Stamina Mode (Battery Saving Mode) which drastically lowers the performance of the phone? That's like buying a $5,000 PC only to play minesweeper... Also, not sure where you got 24hz from on the Xperia.. It cannot go below 60hz it's not a variable refresh rate display or LTPO panel it's either locked at 60 or 120.
Gotcha, that makes more sense. I did put it in Airplane mode at one point and it seemed to help but only slightly. It’s also going to depend on where you’re at in the world. For instance, right now in FL we are having days that hit 115 degrees Fahrenheit which can cause any phone to over heat. The biggest different is the way these phones act when they over heat. My iPhone and S22 Ultra are still operational where as the Sony is 50/50. Some times I can still operate basic tasks other times it completely locks up.
you do realize the audio DAC part is what decides the bitrate ri8? samsung's ads just say that their OS supports upto 32 bit 384Khz and the EQ presets and stuff are tuned by AKG in software. in reality it doesnt have a DAC built-in cuz if it did it must have a headphone jack or an analogue out somewhere (unless they are using it for the internal speakers which is a waste of resources and money). the Type C port DOESNOT do analog output. a typical USB C headphone jack dongle comes built in with the DAC. it communicates to the phone digitally via USB standards like a typical Desktop audio DAC and converts it to analog signals for the headphone out. and if you are buying a USB Type C dongle for 10$ or 20$ you are just goona get the worst quality DAC in the market because of the size and cost cutting measures and wont support more than 24bit 48Khz(which is what apple dongles max out) so yeah if you get an expensive dongle any phone can do 32bit 384 khz just by getting an app called "USB audio player PRO" and in reality unless you are playing FLAC files you aint even goona cross 24 bit 192khz and there are also various other factors that play a role in audio such as impedance, gain, noise level and so on. knowing Sony I'm sure their inbuilt DAC is probably 90% better than any Apple or Samsung dongle thats out there just because they have more space inside the phone to make a better DAC with a powerful amp than a cable the size of a headphone jack crammed together with a tiny DAC chip.
I'm glad I didn't jump the gun and order an international model of the 1iv. I'm hoping that by the time the us model finally ships in September that they'll have sorted out at least some of the heat issues. I haven't had too many heating issues with my 1iii since i got it last year (maybe 1 or 2 instances) but my Pro-i gets HOT quite often
I wish the S22 Ultra wouldn't lag so much. If it didn't I would've kept it. I'm probably going with the Xperia 1 IV since it sounds like it'll be more responsive and won't lag in day to day use based on numerous reviewers.
The phone is quick AF without all that Samsung bloatware, but do keep in mind that you really need to know that if you're planning to use it as a video camera, you will run into issues due to overheating.
Got the 1 IV and it's definitely a decent upgrade from my S21 Ultra, in most ways. The cameras and camera apps are so much better, and no more Samsung bloatware/ecosystem, and the battery life is way better too. Waiting for my free WH-1000XM4 :-)
A lot of people are complaining about overheating. Just a he said she said thing I heard. In Japan they've already released an update that fixed overheating. So in the near future that will no longer be an issue. As for me, I'm going to go with the xperia. I currently have a note 20 ultra and with samsungs recent decisions I won't be going back to them. I love the pen on it, but I won't be going backwards and missing out on expandable storage which the xperia has. And it also has a headphone jack. I won't support a company that takes away basic features and replaces it with subscription services.
I wonder if this video was created before or after receiving the June update which improved performance and fixed some camera/gallery issues. I just received the update today on the unlocked s22 ultra.
At 100 degrees even water is boiling. So why the Xperia is overheating? 100 degrees! Just think about it. Anyway, thanks for your video. Never heard of Samsung before, so I might keep that in mind. ;-) @ 17:55 you say that you don't have a problem to do a separate video. So 5 months later, there's still none. ???
Ironic you read the poll results with an iPhone. Tim Cook would be proud. But I'll stick with my S22U; if better photos are needed, I'll pull out the Nikon DSLR with pro lenses.
Thank you for making this review - I almost got the Xperia 1 IV D: If you were to shoot 4K 60 fps for most of the time, would you recommend the S22 Ultra, or the Xperia PRO-I?
S22 Ultra. I did not enjoy the experience of the Pro-I. In fact, outside of the overheating on the Xperia 1 IV I think it’s a much better experience than the Pro-I.
@@OT4Tech Just got home to get my S22 Ultra, and I'm in love with it! I juz realise we can record 21:9 at UHD 60 fps too (which is an aspect ratio I thought only available for xperia) - just wOW :)) You're awesome
Sony’s design is SO good, I just wish they’d leverage AI like google with their cameras, their auto mode sucks. Their software support also sucks, and I’m not a huge fan of the super narrow display. Other than that, sony probably makes my favorite overall android phone.
I'm waiting for someone to compare Samsung pro mode vs. Sony pro mode. Sony doesn't pretend their AI is smarter than it's users. The really great thing about Samsung is your three-year-old can take a photo and it will be just as good as yours.
Thermal throttling will always be an issue with SD8G1 chipsets unfortunately, but anecdotal experience from Reddit/forums indicates that it did improve over time with firmware updates. I'd wait for the Xperia 1-V this summer if you can, it'll have SD8G2(+) which will massively improve performance and throttling. It should be here in 4-5 months.
@@Hyperfluxe Oh ya, then I will wait for 1 V. Although they gonna launch in the middle of the year, but it is gonna be a next year story by the time the device reach us. Typical Sony.
Thanks for doing a zoom comparison. NOBODY does that. All Android phone zoom is garbage compared to iPhone and I wish Samsung took zoom smoothness more serious. You can't even enable lens lock on Samsung like you can iPhone :'( That's the ONLY software feature iOS has on Android.
Google FI sells the S22 ultra for $599,$699,&799 no trade-in required but with their service of course. I think it is only required for 4 months if you pay off the phone. Plus zero interest for 24 months.
I'm jumping ship from Samsung, for Xperia 1 IV, super excited to try something different! Curious if anyone knows if the S Pen is ha😊ckable? seems Google says xperia supports stylus input, but Samsung has so many pro features, which I'm assuming they won't share willingly, the adventure continues...
Maybe I missing something here but having bought a Xperia 1 IV to replace a Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus, the S9 is superior in all ways...... I am not a photography expert so maybe experts can get a lot more out of the camera but for general business use I think the Xperia is going back In the box and I will carry on using the S9 (2018 Phone).
Yes you can! Samsung producing fake images due to over processing. But everyone has a different needs. Samsung for showing off Sony for professional photographer
Last ditch effort PLEASE HELP! I have this phone but I can't get it to work with TMobile. It works for 5 minutes or so when I first put the Sim card in but will automatically stop when I make a call. I tried calling TMobile they said the phone isn't able to work with their network. Store said the same thing. Best buy gave up after 2 hours. Tried 3 total Sim cards. Any ideas?? Appreciate the kind words! Out of curiosity, when you first picked up the Xperia 5ii did it have over heating problems? I have heard from several people that this is an on going Sony issue but they typically fix it within a few months with software updates.
S22 Ultra 5g 512gb (Note) ALL of you Tubers should still be calling it the Note! Samsung should ba ashamed dropping the Note name, it is what gt it up into the Apple game! imo S22 better photos videos and sound! Not even close....
Wait a seconds, does the s22 Ultra have a HEAD PHONE JACK? @7:40 ok You said CABLED phones, I guess You refer to the USB to 3.5mm iPhone style dongle that....noone carries around :)
I bought a pair of Xperia 1 IV for my wife and me and put them away not long after opening. They're too small. Samsung's Galaxy S22 Ultra is just so much larger. Going back to my Note9, I felt like I got a phone upgrade. That's not what you want going back to a 4 year old phone.
I love 4k on a smartphone...It's literally the only reason I have a phone...I don't like the iPhone screens cause I can immediately see the difference. IT'S ACTUALLY VERY BIG. For people who have not used 4k panels before and are used to 1080p screens they don't mind the low quality
Please someone explain to me about screen resolution BC with my Xperia 1 IV Ill go on Google to test screen resolution and it tells me 418x976?? That can't be right
It’s personal preference. I also praised Sony for fixing their processing. I even stated at the end of the video the only reasons why I chose my Galaxy. It has nothing to do with image quality it’s a matter of the overheating issue which is horrible and the value per dollar.
No I would not switch to the Xperia solely on the clog monitor. Especially when it overheats soooo fast. It’s really bad with overheating with and without the monitor. As far as latency, there is none. It’s amazing actually but they need to make it compatible with other phones.
I'm not going to judge the Sony phone for overheating when we're still months ahead of launch. I mean, you're comparing a phone that's been out for months to a pre-launch unit.
@@OT4Tech but you can't get 5g in America with the Asia version. Trust me I got a 1 iii the asian version and it doesn't have the 5g bands for atnt and TMobile
Sony should stick to headphones and cameras...everyone isn't a blogger or pro photographer. I like the curved edges, you should not be dropping any of these phones, they don't bounce!
@@lbeetech His point is a true statement about weakpoints. Curved glass is a big disadvantage on phone screens, should you drop the device. If the phone falls on its side it can still mess up the screen, which simply isn't the case with a traditional flat screen, it's obvious. Not to mention it's generally more fragile even if it doesn't directly collide with the ground. And as far as the first statement goes, the issue is you're assuming Sony is expecting everyone to buy this as if they're expecting everyone to be a blogger or pro photographer, which you feel the need to point out isn't true, which simply isn't true or close to that. This phone is for videographers and photographers. Not everyone is that, so not everyone will buy it. No shit Sherlock. This has been their strategy and market for years now regarding their phones, they make devices for the knowledgeable and experienced.
I love the Sony but just can't stand that skinny aspect ratio. Just cant deal with that squished screen other than that I would definitely buy one of these.
I feel like people still complaining about not finding a screen protector for the curved screen is a little exaggerated. Whitestone dome I know you've heard of it. Been out for years, tried and true and does the job perfectly. Problem solved. Other than that I dig the videos bro.
I always recommend Whitestone Dome but that’s the problem, they are the ONLY ones. They are not available in stores which many people prefer to shop at. They are often back ordered as well. Plus, they are pricey for a lot of people. That said, they are the best though. I love their screen protectors for Galaxy devices. Appreciate the kind words as well!
@@OT4Tech ah you know what. You've got a solid point there. The average consumer wants to walk in, buy and then leave. Whitestone is indeed pricy but great quality. How absolutely insane is it that Samsung still does not have expandable memory. You're paying that much for a phone and you can't even put an SD card in it how stupid. That alone is enough to push me away from buying it.
Like 5mm maybe. It's tiny. Doesn't really look noticeable. Definitely less so than a pinhole cutout or notch and a much better picture than the over-display camera.
@@Manatee360Phototography it is most definitely noticeable. I had a monitor with a dead pixel and it bothered the hell out of me.

They should be more objective. A phone is a phone to begin with. As nice as the features are a phone is used as a phone not as a pro camera. Ima point and shoot on a phone.
Same, but those camera features are literally useless when the phone easily overheats...
The Xperia 1 V will be even better, same processor as Galaxy 23 without the overheating issues.
Whoever thought removing a 3.5 jack and SD card was a good idea is a dufus.

@@OT4Tech very true, but for many IEMs it's very convenient.
@@OT4Tech What does 32bit do to audio if a cd is 16 bit and compressed/ streaming audio 24 bit max?
I own a Xperia 1 iii and have to say it takes better pictures when using the manual mode. These flagship phones that Sony keeps making are more direct for content creators and so I don't think it's for everyone. It's why it has the cinema pro, video pro and now the music pro. I never use the auto or basic mode when taking pictures. I'm sure once updates kick in, it will resolve those issues. Maybe, that's why you have a sample to review and who's to say Sony is not paying to UA-cam reviewers to see what they can fix before it comes out?
That s22 ultra sounds so tempting honestly but wow is the Xperia a leap in the right direction
Dude this is the only thing stopping me from switching my Samsung s20 ... I love my SD card I can't get with the thought of not having it on my device

thank you for your video but I have already bought the xperia 1 iv I should receive it next week.
That ad was crazy. Just gonna pretend you're not on another topic huh
I have Xperia 1 iv I did not regret buying it, the phone is very amazing
@@s89kw Yeah I'm glad I made the switch.
Hey Jonathan, what is the name and where did you get those desktop backgrounds and icons on your samsung and Sony???

You don't need 32 bit audio. You don't even need 24 bit. To be able to hear the benefit of 24 bit over 16 bit, you need to be surrounded by deafening silence in the outer space, or play the audio at volumes that would make your ears bleed. What Sony should have put was a more powerful amp to drive high impedance wired headphones, not that Samsung can do that anyway.
you can make your s22ultra snappier by activating the developer options, then, adjust all the animation speed to 0.5x . i dont reccomend to turn off the animation though as that will make weird transitions.
Do the same with Sony and make it even faster :)
Living in Asia. Phone has not overheated on me yet. Also was able to get it discounted so seemed like a great deal (about $1.1K for the 256GB model)

Your information about 4K on the Xperia 1IV is wrong. It's the width of 4K, but the height is 1640px rather than 2160px. That's why 4K doesn't make much of a difference. I love the 21:9 aspect ratio in Windows, but on a phone? It doesn't make as much sense since most of my content consumption is videos at 16:9 or 18.5:9. the heating with the sony xperia occurs when using 120hrtz? or also when using just the 60hrtz? and if so. a lot less or not so much of a difference?
120Hz will get it overheated in a matter of minutes. 60Hz will be able to work for a lot longer, especially if you have stamina mode on and 24Hz simply doesn't overheat, even at 35 degrees celsius.
@@virgilthemob1242 Same situation here,.. i want to buy.. but without the "fire" experience!.. thank you!
@@OT4Tech Mb, I was talking about the camera fps. I use Stamina mode while filming and it seems to help with overheating.
Some times I can still operate basic tasks other times it completely locks up.
you do realize the audio DAC part is what decides the bitrate ri8? samsung's ads just say that their OS supports upto 32 bit 384Khz and the EQ presets and stuff are tuned by AKG in software. in reality it doesnt have a DAC built-in cuz if it did it must have a headphone jack or an analogue out somewhere (unless they are using it for the internal speakers which is a waste of resources and money). the Type C port DOESNOT do analog output.
a typical USB C headphone jack dongle comes built in with the DAC. it communicates to the phone digitally via USB standards like a typical Desktop audio DAC and converts it to analog signals for the headphone out. and if you are buying a USB Type C dongle for 10$ or 20$ you are just goona get the worst quality DAC in the market because of the size and cost cutting measures and wont support more than 24bit 48Khz(which is what apple dongles max out)
so yeah if you get an expensive dongle any phone can do 32bit 384 khz just by getting an app called "USB audio player PRO" and in reality unless you are playing FLAC files you aint even goona cross 24 bit 192khz
and there are also various other factors that play a role in audio such as impedance, gain, noise level and so on. knowing Sony I'm sure their inbuilt DAC is probably 90% better than any Apple or Samsung dongle thats out there just because they have more space inside the phone to make a better DAC with a powerful amp than a cable the size of a headphone jack crammed together with a tiny DAC chip.

How is it ironic? I took the picture and posted the story on an iPhone as well… its moronic that someone would complain about this.
Thank you for making this review - I almost got the Xperia 1 IV D:
If you were to shoot 4K 60 fps for most of the time, would you recommend the S22 Ultra, or the Xperia PRO-I?
S22 Ultra. I did not enjoy the experience of the Pro-I. In fact, outside of the overheating on the Xperia 1 IV I think it’s a much better experience than the Pro-I.
@@OT4Tech Just got home to get my S22 Ultra, and I'm in love with it! I juz realise we can record 21:9 at UHD 60 fps too (which is an aspect ratio I thought only available for xperia) - just wOW :))
You're awesome
Sony’s design is SO good, I just wish they’d leverage AI like google with their cameras, their auto mode sucks. Their software support also sucks, and I’m not a huge fan of the super narrow display.
Other than that, sony probably makes my favorite overall android phone.
I'm waiting for someone to compare Samsung pro mode vs. Sony pro mode. Sony doesn't pretend their AI is smarter than it's users. The really great thing about Samsung is your three-year-old can take a photo and it will be just as good as yours.
I really lool forward to get Sony until I read about its overheating issue. Man, has it improve now? Or should I get Pixel 7 instead?
Sony overheating issues when using the camera is a deal breaker
Sony headphones will they connect wirelessly ok with any phone I’m looking for some has you mentioned these
Yep, they work excellent with iPhone, Galaxy, or any other device. The Sony headphones up can be downloaded on any device.
@@OT4Tech cheers for getting back to me 👍🏻
i like the signature edge, it can be reduced just a littke bit but not flat, it is samsung's premium flagship device trademark
It’s all personal preference. I can see the appeal but it’s honestly not for me.
@@OT4Tech I agree, but if I miss the flat screen I go with my Iphone too, samsung's display for me is the best for viewing vids 😅
The Xperias screen is just way too dark. Should be seeing at least 1000-1200 nits. 600 is way too low
Any ideas?? Reward available for someone who has the solution.
Never use samsung but this review was the best..but I'll stick with sony for a while...still with xperia 5ii 😅
Appreciate the kind words! Out of curiosity, when you first picked up the Xperia 5ii did it have over heating problems? I have heard from several people that this is an on going Sony issue but they typically fix it within a few months with software updates.
@@OT4Tech yeah after several update things are getting abit better , its not like they rid the heating 100% it still there but i would said acceptable
They do make usb-c headphones…
People are so damn dumb afraid to replace brands like hype up Apple or very good Samsung.
And Sony isn’t a hyped up brand?
It has nothing to do with image quality it’s a matter of the overheating issue which is horrible and the value per dollar.
if you have knowledge of photography and videography choose the xperia if you want a point and shoot choose s22u
I don’t agree with the first part but the second part is good lol. Both phones have pro modes for full manual control.
this is True, look at when the Photographers use it, really use to potential. It blows competition out of the water
Would u switch to it solely on the vlog screen alone or not a game changer ??
No I would not switch to the Xperia solely on the clog monitor. Especially when it overheats soooo fast. It’s really bad with overheating with and without the monitor. As far as latency, there is none. It’s amazing actually but they need to make it compatible with other phones.
I'm not going to judge the Sony phone for overheating when we're still months ahead of launch. I mean, you're comparing a phone that's been out for months to a pre-launch unit.
The Xperia is available for purchase right now on eBay. It’s been out for almost 2 months in the Asia market..
Stupah
@@OT4Tech but you can't get 5g in America with the Asia version. Trust me I got a 1 iii the asian version and it doesn't have the 5g bands for atnt and TMobile
Sony should stick to headphones and cameras...everyone isn't a blogger or pro photographer. I like the curved edges, you should not be dropping any of these phones, they don't bounce!
No one intentionally drops their phone lol what kind of statement is that?
@@OT4Tech Flat or not, they can break if they hit the ground...
@@anecro Flat screen phones break all the time...
@@lbeetech ya flat Samsung or not they break. Not so easy on Sony though
I love the Sony but just can't stand that skinny aspect ratio. Just cant deal with that squished screen other than that I would definitely buy one of these.
The S22 Ultra does not a head phone jack, how can you use a headphone cable with it?
Beautifully explained bro giving a follow brother and like👍🏽
isnt the Sony Xperia 1 IV still a sample unit and not a retail unit?
Retail units are available in the Asian market right now. You can buy them on eBay and receive them in less than a week.
Speaking of the S22 Ultra, any case recommendations? Currently equipped with the Spigen liquid armor. Keep doing what your doing bro! Videos are top notch 👌
Appreciate ya! That’s a good case. I’ve been using this pitaka case since it’s compatible with all of the MagSafe accessories I have. amzn.to/3nAXfqc
@@OT4Tech I'll check it out appreciate you!
What is the game name in 11:00 ?
How absolutely insane is it that Samsung still does not have expandable memory. You're paying that much for a phone and you can't even put an SD card in it how stupid. That alone is enough to push me away from buying it.
My only question is... How you catch this clean audio in your videos.🥵💪🔥
Excellent video review!
My Xperia XZ1 is much good, Xperia 1 IV is a new version, the model Galaxy S22 much identic to Xperia XZ1, "construcion".
Yes,they use 5 year old designe from XZ Xperia
Still contemplating on a next gen xperia, or another note 9.
the front camera pinhole layout kills it for me. just a section of the screen being chopped out is no go
Like 5mm maybe. It's tiny. Doesn't really look noticeable. Definitely less so than a pinhole cutout or notch and a much better picture than the over-display camera.
@@Manatee360Phototography it is most definitely noticeable. I had a monitor with a dead pixel and it bothered the hell out of me. A dead pixel and sitting at a distance and yet it is very noticeable that I had it replaced. This is a camera that takes up some rgb space that is only barely an arms length from your face when using and it's not really noticeable? Lol worst joke so far
Samsung needs to pay for cutting down valuable options for customers.
Sony really has to fix their phone. Who would want a phone that over heat all the time?
A comparison video by a Samsung fan boy who has no idea about Sony. Literally all the features you talked about on Samsung ie , split screen, side bars, extended camera features etc.. Sony does better. but you didn't even talk about that.
the insane overheating on the Xperia 1 IV is enough to avoid this year's Xperia. I would much rather wait for the Xperia 1 V as that will have a TMSC built Snapdragon. it's too much of an expensive phone to overlook this issue.
ediot
Snapdragon gen 1 which is in Xperia is already made by TSMC
