The only kick that was used back in the 50s to 60s. its the push kick. It can be considered the only kicking technique that was comes from either street brawling, or pankration

The 1966 Batman TV show was a goofball, light-hearted action series. It was written by people who didn't follow the established source material for the Batman character. I find every Batman incarnation "after" the 1966 series to be more faithful to the character created by Bob Kane.

I think Adam West's Batman fighting style was pretty much old mid 20th century Hollywood stunt fighting with the cocked telegraph punches and people diving over tables and furniture.
You see the same style in classic westerns like, "Shane" in the bar room brawl.
I think even Captain Kirk knew more martial arts than Adam West Batman.

I'd say Savate would be useful for him. He wears boots, after all, and Savate kicks are thrown with kicks. And that's without the bit about Savate being a STREETFIGHTING martial art, with gyms that teach the old forms and not just the sports version including stuff like parkour and stick fighting.
Also, Batman is incredibly funny, especially with how serious he is... While others around him, especially Dick Grayson, Alfred, and Harley Quinn, aren't. His presence with those two masters of sarcasms and Gotham's ultimate comedian (because her jokes are much better than Joker's) make everything funnier, just ignore the guys who got angry at the hockeypads joke. I mean, even BATMAN makes jokes at times.

Regarding your comments on the newer Batman. I would say what you are explains sounds a lot like MCMAP. As a fan of the Batman story, a retired Marine (and a MCMAP Black Belt) I know there is no way this is possible, but it in an explanation of the art, it fits, minus the main prerequisite of course.

FYI, I Still maintain that Art Of One Dojo has left out the very first live action Batman, Lewis Wilson (and Robert Lowery) !!!
Some people would say that that's not a movie, but I interject by saying that serials were in fact the movies of their time!
And so with that.... I say that Art Of One Dojo must also analyze the very first live action Batman's fighting style...which in my assessment is mainly boxing based. And maybe a bit of wrestling and street fighting thrown in there.

    • @ArtofOneDojo
      @ArtofOneDojo  11 місяців тому

    • @sixtiezlove346

I should also say that because of the lack of available training in other arts, the Batman of that era would've been ill prepared to do the vigilante work that he does and would've been killed or have his ass handed to him.
Because boxing and wrestling are not enough to survive street fights night after night.

Hey Mr Dan I got good question for you. If you were to travel back in time knowing what you know about martial arts and you had to tell your younger self what martial art to start studying what would you tell yourself? Would it still be kempo or do you think you would have been better off learning something else first?

    • @ArtofOneDojo
      @ArtofOneDojo  11 місяців тому +2

What an excellent question! I think I would probably stay with the Kenpo, but I would give myself pointers and areas I should focus in from the start. Encourage myself to question and study the material at a deeper level versus just memorizing like I did when I was a teen. I would also encourage myself to get into grappling a lot sooner and cross train a little bit more. But I think in the end I would have definitely stuck with the Kenpo, I just would have guided myself better.

Short answer to the Phoenix Jones question, no. If anything, he's more like a real world equivalent of Kick-Ass, but without the actual heroism, considering his inevitable downfall.
Longer answer, definitely not, although that hasn't stopped people from trying, even before Batman was first drawn.
However, it's highly unlikely we'll ever see anyone with the obscene amount of wealth necessary ever try to become a vigilante like Batman, if the way billionaires behave in the real world is any indication.
Another issue would be the problem of moral absolutism that tends to be present in escapist fiction like superhero stories that can't really apply to the real world.
Crimes are rarely as clear cut in terms of right and wrong, especially when you're seeing it, or THINK you're seeing it in progress. (Case in point, George Zimmerman.)
Honestly, as romantic as the notion of real life superheroes is, as inspiring those stories can be, it won't ever really be feasible to see it as a solution for crime and other societal problems.
This is something stories like Superman: Peace on Earth or All-Star Superman do a great job of exploring.

Phoenix Jones the closest thing we have to a superhero??
Uh, no...the closest thing I've seen so far are the modern Zapatistas of Mexico, and several other rallying points of worthy causes, throughout history.
The ANSWER to the question at the end of this video of 'What would it take to be a real superhero, like Batman'.....
Well realistically it would have to involve developing spirit, mind, body. And in that order. The core, the heart of being a superhero is your intention...and it has to be a WORTHY intention. Your heart has to be in the right place. Its what defines a superhero.
And with that intention comes the formulation of your strategic objective. What is your SPECIFIC ultimate goal? (ie. eradicate hunger in a certain city, drastically cut down crime rates in your neighborhood, etc)
Once your spirit is in order and have worthy cause, you'd need to develop the mind or knowledge necessary to achieve that goal. Knowing what would be an effective plan of action, course of action, what tools you would need, what the problem really is, etc. This comes with years of study and collaboration with the right people who know certain things.
As for your body, you would then develop your body in a way that SERVES your strategic objectives, whichever way that is. But ONLY if the use of your mind (intellectual analysis) reveals that you even need to develop yourself into whatever kind of physical wonder usually associated with superheroes. Because remember, superheroing is NOT about being able to beat people up...that's only ONE means to an end...Its about accomplishing your strategic objective, nothing else.
In fact, after developing the spirit and mind, everything else (including the body development) just & MUST serves as a tool to support your strategic objective (ie. a costume to gain attention or inject a certain idea in people, gadgets, etc). Nothing should be arbitrary.
Even if you don't have a costume or gadgets, you'd still be a superhero of sorts if you have well developed the spirit & mind portion of this preparation...because like I said, the spirit portion is the heart/core of superheroing.
And all that is why Phoenix Jones is nowhere near being a true superhero. He has not structured his game plan like this. He just jumped right into the physical fray without analysing if his intentions are really that worthy. He had no strategic objective. He did not formulate an effective plan of action. His motivations were purely ego, appetite for fighting, self gratification.
Meanwhile, the fictional Batman HAS in fact done most of those things I mentioned above, especially the Nolan version. The end product of Bruce Wayne's preparation (ie. Batman) was a result of the realities at hand for him.
Because realistically speaking, without this proper hiearchal structure of preparation, you'd just be a jackass in a ridiculous costume.

  • @sixtiezlove346

ANSWER to the comment about PhoenixJones.....
He would NOT be the one who replicates Batman. Batman is a detective. Batman has honor. Batman had a plan in doing his mission. He had strategic objectives.
Phoenix had NONE of these things...and I don't think he ever can. Any MMA fighter can put on a bulletproof costume and harass people. That does not make you a superhero....real or fictional.
