It doesn't matter how you pronounce their name, they are gorgeous!
I love your channel and I am glad you teach about the species. Please continue to show and talk about the birds and bunnies and fish you have. You take such good care of all of them. I strive to be as good as you are
The best thing to do is ignore people that say dumb things like that. They need some education themselves and probably shouldn't comment if they have nothing important to add.
so beautiful ♡ thanks for sharing xx
Thank you! 😊
I love your videos. You're doing a great job! Keep it up!
Call them what you like. We appreciate your videos! Thanks. Best wishes.
Thank you 😊
I pronounce it as.... adorable! I love them so much!
Please continue making your videos. Pay no attention to the person who so bluntly shamed you for mispronouncing the word bourke. Probably displacement of anger and may have deep problems herself/himself. Your videos are full of valuable info.
I also pronounce it as “bourke” so do the breeders in the USA. I went to my first and only bird show a few years ago, and fell in love with the Rosey bourkes specifically the Rubino and Creamino.
Thank you for this video. It sure lifted my spirits since I recently lost my budgie, Mango, who was almost 10 years old.
So sorry about Mango 😪
@@Loveofpets Thank you, very difficult. Rainbow is missing him so much. We are spending as much time with him as possible and retraining him too. I have a celebration of life video for Mango on my channel.
If you can't pronounce the name then say nothing
I love your videos, it helps choosing the right bird and its very relaxing 🙂
Gurrrl do you! Love on them feathered babies. I enjoy your videos. Those that don't can kick rocks. ❤
😊 thank you
Don’t listen to the people telling you not to make videos because of the way you pronounce your birds name, your videos are amazing and among the few good bourke videos out there! Honestly without you there wouldn’t be much good care information about these lovely little birds. I love your videos so much and I’m hoping to get one of these sweet little babies one day 💜💜💜💜 love you donna! Keep up the amazing work
Like you said they're named after Richard Bourke and in germany it's supposed to be pronounced "Börk" while beeing written Bourkesittich, but to be honest everyone pronounces it different here and is fine with that. I also pronounced it wrong at first, sometimes still do and depending on the region people will tend to pronounce it differently, but just because you say a (for many people confusing) name wrong doesn't mean you don't know anything about the species. That's like saying you don't know how to take care of a dog if you can't say the latin name of the breed.
Never stop talking about them, you are the reason I even found them and I really don't want to imagine a life without my boys! I love their flying sound and their expeditions on the ground.
P.S.: Dio got veeery exited when he heard your birds, called them and tried finding them at my desk.
… The nit picker 😫 can take a hike… Most people say it the same way you pronounce it, Donna. You have a flock of well loved 🥰 ribbon 🥇 winning birds. You are an example of how to properly own and care for a large flock of multiple species of birds. 👱🏻♀️ 💕
Beautiful the bird, good vloging and sharing
Don’t listen to negative comments from narrow minded people my friend, you do a brilliant job educating and sharing your experiences. I Thank you for your effort and time . I say bourkes so do most of the uk hobbyists, and we will still love and care for them what ever they are called .
Richard Bourke, pronounced Burke, was Governor of NSW from 1831-1837, had an Irish heritage, started out as an Irish soldier and helped to bring about the end of penal transportation in Australia and was an advocate for emancipation of convicts, championing land grants to generously give them a chance at life they would never have had in the UK. A hero by modern standards and ahead of his time in liberal thinking. I’m lucky enough to see these pretty parrots in the wild where I live. They like to hang out in large flocks of little corellas and roll around on the grass playing with them. Some of the wild ones have no grey and are fluorescent pink so stand out when running around grasslands. Fitting these parrots are so sweet and named after a sweet man who broke the mould.
It feels so nice & beautiful to watch your birds ❤️ I can just watch them all day like that 😀👍🏻 very informative and useful video as always ❤️💯👌🏻🙏🏻☺️
Wow, I didn’t realize Rosy was that old! Gorgeous Bourkes! 😁
Beautiful and lovely Birds, Donna
woo great Bourke nice information u have really nice pet
Beautiful birds
First off, all your birds are adorable! And you are very sweet & know your stuff! I'm glad you're not bothered by that fool of a Took, who, from the sound of it, told you off in a very nasty way about how to pronounce "Bourke." I'm sorry they said that to you & I'm glad you're going to continue teaching us about various birds & how to take care of them.
I couldn't believe it when you said cockatiels don't like to bathe. I have a cockatiel that will land on my shoulder while I shower and then he wants me to get him on my finger and dip him full on in the shower stream. If I take him out too soon he fusses at me like crazy. ❤ I LOVE HIM SO MUCH!!! ❤ His name is Dan Marino.
Hi definitely continue with your lovely videos. I have bourkes and I pronounce the word exactly the same as you. Your videos are a pleasure to watch as always 😊
bork! :D cute birbies
Oh, berk, lol, I thought you were saying Bork like a doggo bark bark bork
I'm looking after two Rosey Bourkes 🥰
This is such a good video, thank you. I have been considering a different species so I will keep these guys in mind. Raindrop is stunning, they’re all so cute.
Hi, Donna. You done nothing wrong you can say whatever you want. I loved the video and the birds are so adorable. Donna, you look so gorgeous. Much respect and ignore the hate you always do a great job. Much respect.
Whoever told you that you shouldn't be keeping birds is a BERK! I live in Scotland and pronounce it Bourke's parakeet but you're right to say that it's acceptable to say it differently wherever you come from. I love your channel. You give great info on how to look after all of your pets and I have learned a lot. Keep the videos coming Donna! Btw I lived in Ontario when I was younger; first Hamilton then Toronto. Where do you live? Kind regards Linda Bell x
Yeah... it's berk! 😊
You got supermodel hair blowing in the wind!! Gorgeous! I think if u ever have room for 2 more you name them Bork and Berk 😀 love u love your channel
I love watching vids of your birds!
sir ... somebody.. bourke. That was cute!
Here in UK, they are known as bourkes!!!
WTF Donna, I don't believe this 😅😅😅😅😅Bourke plz... Its like caique but many say cakes... We want your uploads, so phuck (did l spell that correct, never mind your get it😅)the rest.... ❤️ ❤️
Such beautiful bird
I don't have an aviary, but I do have a good sized travel cage I take my Bourke's out in while we work outside. Mine doesn't like scritches like some of the bigger parrots, but she does cuddle by sitting on my chest or shoulder. She will puff up and just chill.
And she is a rubino. She will be 3 years old on September 13th! She also likes to come out in a backpack carrier when I go out, if the weather is nice.
She is enjoying listening to your Bourke's!
That's great she likes scritches 😀
I pronounce Bourkey just like you and so does my babies Vet! Love that you made this video 💗 Thank you.
You are so welcome!
Hi Donna. I pronounce it the same way as you. I did have a very sweet pair of the blue/pink bourkes. They were so gentle and beautiful. At this time, I have a very fiesty green cheek conure who is great. I just love the different personalities of birds.
Hi Donna! Been following you for 4 months and soaking up as much as I can from you. Your channel has become my Bird Bible! Just picked up my 1st 9 wk old Rosey Bourke yesterday! Mango is the sweetest little thing! Keep up the great work you do here!
Hi. Congratulations on your new baby bourke. You must be so excited. I am happy that my videos helped you. I just posted a new video and you can see my bourkes
I'm watching it now. Your bird room is gorgeous as is every one of your birds! Theres a lotta love goin on there lol
Please be sure to obtain another Bourke soon to keep your 1st baby company. Since these are flock birds, they do SO much better and are happier with others of their type. You will be amazed to see the difference in behavior with more in your flock.
Joy is coming your way.
I'm in England, and yes, we say Bourke.
Beautiful birds, one of my favourite parakeets. I have had a few budgies and zebra finches, I thought about a Bourke; did my research and realised they weren't for me. Now have a pigeon, after 10 years of learning about them - she's "the one" 😍. Still will have budgies around for the constant chat though!

Hey Donna , I pronounce it just the same as you. I have for years! I have 3 Rosies, 1 normal, 1 Rubino and 1 Opaline fallow and I also have Latino scarlet chested....Love them!
In Finnish Bourke parakeet is paimenruohokaija, which generally translates to 'shepherd grass parrot.'
Your videos are great and I hope the negative comments don't get you down!
Hi Donna, they're lovely. I have two of them. They are the Opaline or Rosie color. They are quiet, sweet birds. What outdoor aviary are you using? Are you happy with it? I'm thinking of getting one. Thanks. UPDATE: Oh, I just watched your aviary tour video so I found the link for the aviary. Thanks again.
I love the outdoor aviary. My birds are also enjoying it 😀
Hi Donna, people are nuts. W. T. Heck does pronouncing the name matter🙄. I say it the same as you, im Scottish, and American and Australian people pronounce words SO different from me but for goodness sake we all know different countries different pronunciation. Ignore supercilious idiots. Your channel is great and so are you.🥰
We pronounce Burk here in Brazil, almost like Burp, so what rofl There are few things more ridiculous than people who don't add ANYTHING to the community criticizing people who actually do a lot for it. I know it's hard not minding them, but know this, Bourkes were my first love in the parrot world because of you! I ended up not getting one, but they are still special for me, and so is your channel. I hope you never lose heart, because you're amazing.
Your Bourke parakeets are so sweet and handsome!💕
In U.K. we say it ‘Bork’ as it’s also not an uncommon surname here, and is pronounced this way then, so you are quite right Donna 🙂. That silly person who told you not to be making videos over it, wow they sound like a troll and must have a problem. Love your birds and listening to you telling us about them and your love and enthusiasm for them is really nice to see 😊
I love species spotlight, recently I had to sell my budgies so this just makes me happy
Here in the US, everyone calls them "Borks". When I first learned about them and researched them, I found that they were pronounced "Berk" in Australia, so I started off using that pronunciation. Nobody knew what I meant, so I switched over to "Bork" - it may not be technically correct, but I guess it's a form of regional dialect. I don't think it matters that much one way or another! My Bourkes certainly don't care... I can call them borks, berks, babies, bubbies, sweets, sweethearts, sweetcheeps (yes I do call them that and one of my birds actually says sweetcheeps :D) ... They just love the attention!
I've never seen Biorke (perhaps another language?) or Bourkeii, but the latter sounds like it comes from their Latin name, Neopsephotus bourkii.
People saying that you shouldn’t make videos? That’s not nice I enjoy watching this is interesting to learn about since my family has a bourke parakeet lol
An Aussie here. And I pronounce it Berk. But you can pronounce it any way you want. Your such a good Bork mumma.
We pronounce them as Bourke not Berk in England - well my birdie friends do. I love them I definitely want to own a Bourke, just not very common where I live.
Keep making your videos Hun. She's just jealous she can make videos. Your birds are so beautiful!!!!
Thank you so much!
You made me laugh 😅Bourne berk etc 😊😂
🤣😂😅
Love u and your birds 🐦and your videos and your channel 👍
I love my Bourges, that is how I have learned there name is in Portugal 🇵🇹 Island. I have a pair and thy look just like yours. I also call my female Rosie, and the male bourgie,....thy are quiet birds, and only make a few squeaks in the morning or at night or when he wants to tell me he wants a fresh batch of food. I don’t give mine much fresh foods, but have seen thy like lettuce and carrots. Don’t let stupid people that has nothing els to say but criticize , cause you to stop making videos. I have followed you for years now and I love your information. Like just yesterday my grand daughter showed me a love bird, that her friend found, and he was mounting and so looked up your video and sent it to her, for information. So you are doing a great job over all. Love all your videos and information....❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
great video ❤️
I love watching your birds. They are very beautiful. How you say the name doesn't matter, they are still very sweet and beautiful birds. You have done very well with them. Thank you for sharing your birds with us.
My pleasure!
I agree with you. You pronounce it the way it’s spelled. 😁
Call it pink parakeet
Here in the Netherlands we say Boerk.
Probably not right as well but everybody calls them that.
I agree they are your pink parakeets ,call them what you like ! 😀I enjoy your video so dose my yellow parakeet ,thank you Love Rosie name, since I am Rose USA
I love but I need castle began to roll, 🙌🙏🤭👍
Hi Dona this is beautiful information
I have love birds
How to do paring
I love your videos. I’m Aussie so I do say Berk, but I also understand accents and think the Canadian way you say it is totally fine. How silly that person is.
you make very nice bird videos.... :-))
Dont let comments get to you it's obvious you have enough personal experience with all of your birds to be able to have your say I can tell and I've only seen a few of your vids keep making em doin a great job
Thank you for the kind words 😊
I like all your bird video series, I'm looking at getting more educated. I've had many budgies and I have to admit at times I was too busy for them. I have bought only one
Glad you like them!
Given you live in another continent , it’s understandable , YOU CHANNEL ROCKS .❤️
Don’t worry about pronunciation! Don’t worry about negative people !!!!
You make all the best videos about berks and borks and mine luvs you so you are Rosey Bourke certified approved to pronounce it how you like!
Awh, thanks for the kind words 😀
@@Loveofpets your welcome and could I pretty please ask you a question? I feel pretty sure my birdy Sunshine is female. She's about 9 months and is starting to do the crouch, squeak, and tail up display, I'm sure you've seen this. Wouldn't that be a female trait? She just loves your voice btw and she knows almost all her friends (I just can't keep track of who's who) but when I say "wanna watch Rosey, Roxy, and Donna" she gets very excited! They are such awesome birds! Just give me your best guess if you can and if I really really need to do dna, I will, if you say so. Thank you for everything you do, it really helps out and it's appreciated!
In Aus. We call them Rosa Burke
Don't ever feel bad about mispronuncing anything Australian!
Not only do we use slang for lots of things, but were also pronounce things weirdly (for example foreigners always pronounce our city Melbourne as the way it's spelt, but we always say it as mel-bun).
I think it's because we're generally a pretty layed back culture, which has developed its way into our vocabulary, lol!
Donna, This is an interesting video, but people need to know that Australian birds are susceptible to cool drafts. Being outside depends on the weather in a person's area. One of our buyers put her two birds in a cage hanging in a tree outside. A neighbor's dog knocked it down and killed both birds. Domestic birds should never be left alone outside. Hawks, cats, raccoons and other things are a danger. BTW I've also been criticized for saying Bork instead of Burk. Neosephotus bourkii. Smiles from Rosie Bird.
I should of mentioned about taking birds outside. Bird cages should never be hung in a tree. That's sad about what happened. I do have a video on how to safely take birds outside. I will leave the link here for anyone reading your comment
ua-cam.com/video/6kSfgj6uMgo/v-deo.html
I say you had it right the first time! To each there own. 🤔 In Kansas its Bourke!
I just subscribed to you hun.
Hi, welcome to my channel! Enjoy the videos!
Nosotros en México les llamamos periquitos de Bourks
I call them Bourkes Parrots or parakeets. I did have two one passed away he was a regular and now I just have a rosey. I don't think it matters what people call them. It seems like an argument with these birds which is odd to me. The sweet little chirp they make I adore it. Sweet little babies. Their wonderful little birds and I love them. Keep making you r videos and ignore rude keyboard warriors. Shame on them. Your videos are nice. Don't listen. I have found online even a nice comment that I make people attack me for it. So, I typically won't even go back to see if someone comments nasty back. 🤣 That can be rediculous. Thank you for your videos. 🤗🤗🤗
❤❤❤❤
It named after an Australian Explorer named Bourke who charted a lot of inland Australia
Hiya Donna, iam sorry i never saw your video come on till now. My friend has Bork Parakeets.A male a female. She spells it Bork and pronounces it Bork.I guess a person who criticizes you simply on and spelling or how they say a name and making a big deal of it doesn’t have too much to occupy their time and they need some excitement in their life.lol. What a nit picker.Just ignore these people .You take beautiful care of all of your pets Donna and thats what matters.Just as long as you dont call them all, late to dinner, Haha 😁.Bye for now Donna , hugs to all 🤗.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I have learned so much from you. U own a bork/bourke
I am NOT going to say "berk", I will continue to say 'bork". Remember how there were people that wanted us to say "tom-mah-to", not tomato; well when I order a sandwich and I want lettuce and tomato, that's how I ask for it; I won't listen to some snob criticize me for my pronunciation that is different than theirs; Hahaha ! Some people just have nothing better to do than criticize others, but hey, your videos and narratives are great. Your birds are beautiful. What ever happened with Koolaide ?
I remember that about pronouncing tomato like that and I never changed 😀
Sadly Koolaid passed away 😢
@@Loveofpets Sorry to hear that Koolaid passed away.
Go Donna Go! Ignore those negative persons ! I have learned so much from you. Please also make more videos on the Love Bird thanks:)
That's fascinating, I knew the history of pronunciation prescriptivism in the UK and Australia, but you're saying some Canadians have told other Canadians to pronounce tomato the standard British way? I'm a huge linguistics nerd, do you remember any other details that would help me find who these people were and what they said? Were they some kind of academic authority or cultural organisation?
I've always said it Bork.
Educational critiquing is a wonderful thing. The self righteousness with their name-calling and vitriol should stick to only activities involving themselves.
I have two female rosey Bourkes parakeets Blossom and Rainbow.
I say Bork also
I love your videos. Just ignore that mean person!
I'm Australian so say Berk. Frankly, I dont give a hot damn how you pronounce it, we all know what bird we're talking about, I'm here for the great info!
Thank you 😊
Seriously, the fact you even gave them a platform is not worth the effort! That's 3 minutes o my life I can't get back..lol..due tot his bully. Soldier on! You do gr8 work!
Bourkes are great with other birds in a good space just not with more aggressive parrots. They're great for aviaries and such with finches etc.
Im looking for blue bourke parakeets, can you give any info to locate?
Hello!
I was wondering, how dusty are Bourkes compared to budgies? I tend to have allergic reactions to dander, is it manageable? Some people say budgies are very dusty, so I was wondering if Rosey were the same or less dusty?
Hi. I don't find bourkes to be dusty birds especially compared to Cockatiels. Budgies are not very dusty. It's best if you can go visit some bourkes and see if they trigger your allergies. They may have some dust, dander but it's minimal
Hi I have a question about one of your older videos about Indian ring necks. My one is a few months old and he keeps biting my parakeets whenever they’re out of the cage. I don’t even kiss my parakeets in front of him. How do I punish him for that? For now, I have a tiny cage that he hates but I put him in that as a “time out”. Is this ok?
What do they sell for
I have a question about my budgies Donna. I’ve had two budgies for a year and a half now and they are best friends. Just got a new baby 4-6 months. He was so happy to jump right in their cage but my other two are afraid of him. Will it take time to warm up to him or should I bring him back to the store? 😢
Hi, it can take a while for them to get to know each other. It's best to quarantine him for at least 30 days.
Avoid putting him in the same cage and put cages close to each other after quarantine.
The 2 that are bonded may become aggressive with new budgie.
It's a 50/50 chance that they will get along but it takes time. Sometimes many months.
After quarantine and after cages are close to each other for a few days let them out together and keep an eye on them.
You may have to get a 4th budgie to even then out as they like to pair up.
A breeder told me they are called Berk parrots.
Hi I have a (non-rosy) Bourke's. I've just recently got him & am wondering if they're prone to flock separation anxiety? He seems very stressed and I think he's lonely
Hi. If he was with a flock it could be stressful to separate. Spend plenty of time with him and provide out of cage time. Feed fresh foods to keep healthy
Hi Donna, so sorry to hear that awful comment about your pronunciation. I'm Australian and have no problem with your pronunciation, we live in different countries and most countries have different ways of pronouncing words. I love your Canadian accent, don't take any notice of negative narrow minded people, they're probably just plain grumpy and taking their own frustrations out on you! Love your videos!
I call them gorgeous! So so beautiful! Do you sell fertile eggs from them or any of your birds? There are so many scams going on right now I'm afraid to buy birds online. Or where do you buy yours?
Hi. I don't sell birds or eggs. I agree with the scams, it's unfortunate.
Hopefully you can find an honest breeder.
