Since we only see the elderly among the dead in the nursing home, I always assumed that at some point the Vatos gang realised just how serious things were getting and mercy killed the residents before leaving to try and make it on their own somewhere else.
The guys weren’t seasoned street gang members- they were pretending to be. As the elderly lady said, they were good boys. The people who attacked them were likely watching for a while, and realized when Rick and company left that they would be easy targets.
@@KingKhanate1997 The thing about the elderly woman is that they WOULD say they were good boys, no? Gang members (especially mexican ones, they hold a very strong familial culture) typically don't involve their parents or loved ones in it. They wouldn't know if they were bad. But I think here we're meant to have our impression of them defied, in the same way Ricks impression of them was defied. They weren't gangbangers; They were pretending to be to scare people off. Which honestly? I could see working. Ever seen what cartels do to people? Christ.
I know they're almost certainly dead, but I chose to believe the Vatos survived until we get an actual in show confirmation they didn't. Sometimes it's just nice to believe some side characters had a happy ending
Some people don’t even believe it was an outside group the could’ve made the deleted scene canon, simply Los Vatos had a realization and mercy killed all the elderly and dipped. In the walking dead I don’t think anyone has a happy ending, everyone has it rough somehow
You have to remember the governor FOUND Merle and treated his wounds and reconstructed his hand with the knife. The governor was known to do this style of work to survivors, he was an evil man.
but the prison is in Georga which is an hour or two from Atlanta (in the locations they were in) so I don't think there's any way he could have known about the Vatos gang at all
@@tonytriplett21 Because in Atlanta at the start of the outbreak, who knows how many groups are still just around any corner. There could be anyone in any building around the city or outside of it.
My headcannon is that the Governor killed all of them alongside Merle, and that Shumpert (one of the Governor’s men) was a former Vato (since the same actor played a Vato extra).
Very observant. I took thought that was a prelude to the governor. The Governor books in Atlanta would support that. In 91-92 I worked at Wells Fargo Armored Teller Machines facility at 888 Marietta Street. The Big Red truck facility was nearby. They were bought by Loomis. The white Van Daryl and Carol hid in near Grady was a reminder. So I was familiar with that downtown and set locations. I'm Albert- Welcome to Leith UA-cam/Primevideo/ Netflix and banned Biowarfare associate. ( Andrea was devious. Head games. She had provoked Ed into a fight with Shane like a mugger standing behind. So not surprising she was a double agent with the Governor.
And one of the elderly women also played as a resident at Martinez's Camp. Makes me wonder if Martinez was around during the time the Vatos gang was killed off and if he had any relation or history with them.
I don’t think it was the governor I think it was actually the military the same military that the governor later killed I think this for several reasons 1, VISUAL EVIDENCE, the helicopter rick sees flying in the first episode is a military helicopter in season three we learn from the governor that the army guys he killed had a helicopter that crashed. We also see that the city is filled with military equipment. 2, MOTIVE, the Military was ruthlessly bombing city’s and trying to reduce the number of walkers and we know they were not taking any chances it’s possible they felt the old sick people were a ticking time bomb and felt they had to be put down for safety. We also know that the vatos gang would have defended the old people and try to protect them from the military. 3, SPECULATION, we know the military had forces in the city in episode one we see all sorts of military vehicles yes the ones we saw were abandoned and overrun but Atlanta is a big city and we only see a small part of it its possible that there were other military holdouts in the city. Because of this I have pieced to gather what I believe to be the most likely scenario. The Military had set up defenses in the city but it soon became clear that there were to many walkers so the military tried to escape but with the streets and roads blocked it slowed them down greatly and running out of time the army had to bomb the city anyway knowing they still had forces inside this ended up killing most of the military in the city and reducing the number of walkers. Some time later the surviving military had regrouped at fort Bening which was now a large refugee center once the military felt there base was secure they sent a large group of their soldiers down to retake the city. The army first tried to retake the cdc but they were cocky and overwhelmed by the number of walkers so they had to retreat outside the city and think of another plan Before entering the city again the army used there helicopter to scout the city streets and get intel that’s the helicopter rick saw the helicopter likely discovered the survivors camp where the vatos gang were living but it took time to for the army to get there when the army arrived and discovered the nursing home turned survival shelter they felt the large amount of old sick people there were to dangerous to keep alive however the vatos gang refused to allow them to carry out there plan so a fight broke out and despite the vatos gangs efforts they were outnumbered and outgunned by the army who killed them all however in doing so they attracted a large number of walkers the army grabbed what they could and had to fight there way out through the city filled with walkers this resulted in them losing vast numbers of there men and vehicles this is why when we see them in season three they have only several trucks and a handful of men they made it out of the city but they received word that fort Bening had been overrun and so with nothing left to do they started traveling around using there helicopter as a reconnaissance until they were eventually killed by the governor.
Maybe someone died of old age and attacked the unsuspecting people there. Maybe the head shots were to those people that were bitten, or mercy killings when they had to flee after the unexpected attacks from dead elderly people. As others pointed out, it was only older people found dead. So everyone else would have to have become walkers and left the area or survived and left the area.
Could be, but the supplies were all gone. So the dead older people were probably killed on purpose, maybe after one Died and turned showing what death means in the apocalypse
@@cameronhermann9400yeah, I agree with you. I haven’t seen this episode in a long time but this sounds very logical. Access to supplies, even in a city that’s mostly walkers, would eventually become difficult to find. Supplies could get tainted or buried under/behind rubble. The supplies would not be replenished with no medical facilities functioning. The Vatos were rendered practically immobile due to the elderly residents’ handicaps, in combination with the terrain and the walkers. It was just a matter of time before accessible supplies would run out. They were living on borrowed time. But at least they made the effort to care for each other for as long as they reasonably could.

please don’t stop making these! i love hearing someone else break down these super niche lore moments that i usually think others wouldn’t give much thought to. i totally agree it was Randall’s group
I have two potential theories in regards to what my have led to the Vatos destruction. 1: Possibly a rival gang, chances are seen's this is 2-3 months into the apocalypse. That Vatos gang might have had rivals prior to the outbreak and this rival gang is based somewhere in the city and holding out like the Vatos. They heard there Rivals the Vatos gang is alive and got themselves some guns and simply ambushed them and took out the Vatos gang. 2: This second one is more intrigue as is probably not an external group but probably and internal conflict bare with me on this. Chances are the Vatos gang sometime after Rick left had some internal disputes one group led by Guillermo wanting to continue helping the elderly. While another is led by probably an unnamed Vatos member. They probably had some argument in regards to the elderly and current situation of the gang being stuck there, wasting there time instead of leaving the dangerous dead city. An this group argues that these seniors are "gonna die anyway why are we wasting are meds and food on them as the city is picked clean" and that leaving the city is a better option. This led to a rebellion against Guillermo and practically led to the events that unfolded in the nursing home.
Both really good theories - especially number 2. Every group could potentially have their own Simon or Shane - a mentally unstable dude powerful and influential enough to cause chaos
@@dmongru That is true cause lets be frank here, being stuck in a nursing home full of seniors surrounded by millions of undead in a city full of them ain't the best place in the apocalypse. Those supermarkets and pharmacies ain't gonna be restocked as all the food/Meds is picked clean. Going out into the country and finding a stable self-sustaining community would be the best option. I won't be surprised if that was the reason on how this group came to an end.
#1 is the most likely. There were other groups in the area that they were wary of. #2 is less likely just because of the time frame. The Vatos group was likely wiped out the day after Rick's group last saw them. In the deleted scene, Rick's group went back to the Vatos about three days after their initial meeting. That's too quick for the Vatos to turn on their grandparents.
So specific, just say they got ambushed by another group or had internal conflicts in their own group, either turned on eachother or just agreed to do a mercy killing.
I've always assumed it was the Governor groups. Simply because He saved Merle who mentiones he was close to dying. Even if Merle had gotten out of Atlanta, he obviously didn't get to far away. So the Governor was in that area. The Governor Killed countless other groups, who hadn't even done anything to him. If the Vatos were hostile towards the Governor and his men, then it would have just enraged him even more. Lastly I feel like the writers were giving us a clue about the Governor. Maybe an early Easter egg as the writers already knew he would be appearing in season 3. Great Videos I love watching them keep it up. 😊
@@cheekyrabbit Wasn't it because Andrea had the bag when she got split up after Hershel's farm got overrun? I'm pretty sure she picked it up when she got left behind and was rescued by Michonne. I remember that Michonne had the bag being carried by one of her walkers when they came across the helicopter crash. The Governor likely had it in his office because Merle or the other guys took it from the corpses while they were being taken to Woodbury.
Yeah after seeing how Merle ended up with the Governor which is why I thought he killed the Vatos. Though Randall's group could have certainly been responsible too. Another theory was a rival gang or internal issues.
@@bryannicholas2130 I’d say after Season 2. We still got the mid season barn reveal and then that great string of episodes from Nebraska to when Shane fought Rick.
@@bryannicholas2130The reason season 1 (and 2) wad better written is because they didnt had a 7 episode plot stretched to fit in to 16 episodes, handled by like 20 people retconing and changing character motivations that had been stablished seasons ago. As Latino American from abroad Brazil I think it stupid reasons to not have a Hispanic origin governor anyway the actor who did it is Great I can remember his name! But negan is way better!
Most likely they're still functioning. They had a nice set up, zombies couldn't get to them, and they had supplies. Unless they ran out and couldn't get more id imagine they're still there.
I think Randal and those guys at the bar were part of the early Claimers. Especially with their SA on kids whilst parents watch MO... That kinda sealed it for me when what Randal described is what nearly happened to Carl and Michonne Infront of Rick. I guess they just came across it but seems a weird place to hit for the Claimers given their MO's. But then again it's a strange place for anyone to hit who wasn't looking for medical supplies, or saw the guns perhaps. Otherwise why bother going to a nursing home? I really wanted some of the Vatos boys to survive and eventually find the group in a later season. I think it was either a rival gang, or the elderly died naturally and the Vatos didn't understand why they turned and the domino effect unravelled causing chaos
The claimers were prolly just a depleted version of Randall's group, the weaker of the "30 men" died, I wish s2 had more budget and they touched on Randall's group a little more, such a good plot that could be, imagine seeing Rick and shane dealing with a human threat
@@ThorstenDerWeberknechtWhile the saviors are far from saints, they would never do the things Randal’s group did. At least not with Negan as their leader. And they are also 2 states away from the Sanctuary

In season three, in the governors office, we see the same sherrifs bag that the vatos had earlier. This implies that the governors group was in Atlanta, killed the vatos and picked up Merle
Good topic for discussion. It's not commonly known, but most of what was filmed for the Season 2 premiere episode (including the Vatos scenes) was axed (due to poor quality.) Frank Darabont fought with AMC to refilm some scenes, but they fired him instead. Ultimately, they pieced together the remnants of (what was intended to be) ep 1 and combined it with (the intended) ep 2 for an extended (90 minute) premiere. My take on the Vatos' fate is that they were taken out by another steet gang/group. In their season 1 episode, the Vatos group mentioned that there were other dangerous groups in the area. The enemy group would have just had to wait until the Vatos members went out during their daily scavenging missions and then wipe out everyone else. Also maybe lying in wait to ambush the Vatos members when they returned. It's possible that Darabont had intended for some Vatos members to survive and show up later in the series. However, when Darabont got fired, that wiped out any chance to find out what his plans really had been.
I thought it might be the governor because merle said he would have died had the governor not found him. There's no way merle would have gotten out of the city on his own. Also, when glenn was held hostage on the roof, one of the guys there looks like shumpert. If they are the same person, then maybe shumpert was an inside man for getting the vatos wiped out
@@lastrrr4134 if Merle took it, then how come he didn't take it back to the camp like Daryl predicted once they found out it was taken? Remember in Season 3 when Merle revealed that he eventually would have robbed the camp if Daryl was with him? If Merle had the van, I'm positive he would have gone after the camp because he didn't know Daryl went back to Atlanta to save him, especially if Merle was recruited by the Governor then I'm sure they would have attacked the camp. The only reason I can think it never happened is because Merle needed medical attention for his hand. Then maybe the Governor's group went back to attack the camp only to find Rick's group already left for the CDC and gave up on trying to look for them
@@KuYa_Boi Merle had amputated his hand and had just cauterized the wound. They found the building where he had treated his wound and had just missed runnning into Merle (the cans of Sterno were still burning, so they would have missed him by minutes - to an hour or two.) Merle would have been in an incredible amount ot pain. I would expect that he got out of Atlanta and parked somewhere safe, try to find some painkillers, and try to rest his wounds. He likely would have gone back to the campsite at some point, but after Rick's group had left for the CDC.
It had to be the governor. Merle mentioned him saving him from near death and I doubt he made it out of the city so they had to have been in Atlanta. And the governor has shown his willingness to kill for supplies. Maybe this was them hinting at his arrival in s3
Crazy how I was just rewatching the storyline for this and watching the deleted scene for the first time a day or two ago and then this video comes out just makes everything come together appreciate it 💯
YES! I ALWAYS said that Dawn’s crew couldn’t have been responsible for a number of reasons, but people insist it was them I actually think THEY are the least likely contenders here
I agree.Even by the time we meet Dawn's crew, they are not cold blooded killers, but essentially running an extortion racket. Dawn herself explained that the Mercy hospital cops were still trying to stick to normal moral standards and police policies for some time after the fall under their police captain commanding officer. It was only when he died, and Dawn as a police lieutenant, assumed command, that the Mercy cops started slipping into corruption. Dawn allowed her officers to exploit other survivors because they were ready to abandon their posts after the death of their captain who had provided firm moral leadership. Dawn, unable to enforce the same level of discipline among her officers, struck a compromise to maintain her authority. It important to remember that the Mercy cops tried to maintain a level of legitimacy and moral authority among themselves and the survivors they exploited. They continued to (mostly) act as police officers by using police procedures, equipment, and vehicles, while also wearing and maintaining their uniforms and personal professional appearance. The Mercy cops were trying to maintain as much of a sense of normacy in a world with no rules,as possible. It appeared that it was important that they could tell themselves and the people they exploited, that they had legitimacy and that survivors "chose" to submit to their own indentured status in return for police protection, as a substitution for the officers being paid by taxpayer funded payroll. Cold Blooded execution of elders at a nursing home so early into the apocalypse, would seem to be crossing a line that nobody could walk back from. What would be the point of maintaining the illusion of being cops and looking like professionals if your group has already shown you have no moral restrictions to your action?
What makes little sense here is the need for that relatively small bag of guns this early on into the apocalypse. This gang has pretty much the run of the entire city (a southern city to boot where guns are a way of life for most people). Idk who needs to hear this but America is FULL of weapons and ammunition. This bag everyone wants so badly wouldn't really matter as much as the show wants you to think it would. Especially since guns only attract MORE walkers and there really isn't any large groups of humans yet to pose a real threat to a gang as large as the vatos. Medical supplies would've made more sense since those are harder to find and places where they would be stored would naturally have a higher walker presence, like hospitals.
Good point. The guns being taken should be incidental to getting the food and medical supplies so early into the fall.Any group with the guns and manpower to take out the Vatos would seem to have to make a risk vs reward determination if the bag of guns and ammo was worth expending the lives and ammo you already have. We have to keep in mind that a random group of survivors would be made up out of people with little to no tactical or weapons training or experience. Even civilians who know or figured out how to use guns, don't have the mental conditioning to bare "acceptable losses" to achive tactical goals. Now. If you are leading a random group of former office workers, college students, and service employees, its gonna be a hard sell getting them to risk death or wounds (likely resulting in death) to get more guns when you already have plenty of guns.
Guns = power = supplies. Common sense. You can have 2,000lbs of supplies and no guns.. what happens when the bad man shows up? Come on now. A bag with like 30 guns in it and some ammo is a good score. If you give me food, I can eat it and be done with it.. give me a gun? I can possibly procure more food. So on and so forth.
@@I.D.I.O.C.R.A.C.Y. but they had guns already. Also, guns = noise = walkers + major city = MASSIVE horde of zombies. Yes guns are important but they're also everywhere. In Georgia, according to the FBI website, there are 304,124 registrated guns there. And those are the ones registered, who knows how many aren't. You're going to find guns all over the place. Now, real medical supplies...that would be in short supply already. And they're entire reason for staying in the city is because the old people they're caring for are SO weak and feeble they can't be moved. Sounds like they need those more then anything else to me. I'm not saying the guns have zero value, I'm saying they're hardly worth all that trouble. They're risking a lot to chase after a fairly small bag of easily obtainable weapons and ammo.
Governor came in, vatos and the mobile elderly escaped and the immobile were executed or left to be eaten by the governor, they escaped and hopefully could show up as minor characters in spinoffs though unlikely
Randals group was my guess also. They said they were using the highways before they got plugged up and had to hit the sticks. I always thought woodberry would be to far from Atlanta. They talk about red zones they don’t go into. The military guy says they were basically inside there fences for most of that time jump. It could be like you said a different group of soldiers doing there own thing. With it being the first episode of season two wonder if it was thought about making this group a bigger part of the season? Totally guessing just we see the group for a short time later on and it was cut out of the first episode? They also seemed trigger happy as a group they would waste ammo on the elderly I feel like the governor would say something like save those bullets till you need them or never waste a bullet lol

@ it’s well thought out for sure. I didn’t think it was the governor either. The timing could be off but. Small group of soldiers could totally be Possible. Whoever it was ran through them it seemed to be a one sided fight. They had some pistols and shotguns a couple 22 rifles from what I remember but going against guys better trained and better armed makes sense a squad level size group of soldiers could run them down quickly and not lose people in the process. Will never know but your Theory sounds badass and would make for good television lol.
Another great episode! Dude, you're rocking this! I prefer to think it was some unknown group. During the first few months of it, there HAD to be hundreds of scavengers wandering around. The ones we were shown were just a representation of what was out there. More than likely, the group that took out the Vatos were also, likewise, taken out as well not too long after. Infuriating as it is, one of the best things about TWD, especially the early years, is the not knowing. The what ever happened to's keeps me spinning stories in my head. Off topic. I always wondered about the what if's also... What if they rebuilt the prison?

I think the more realistic ending for the vatos is death by walkers. They were caring for the elderly in the heart of a city infested by millions of walkers. All it would take is for one person under their care to pass away unnoticed and boom just like that it's over.

I think some of the elderly residents died (you know cause they are old and needing medication) and the Vatos not knowing that everyone comes back were caught off guard being attacked by the elderly people who just died hours earlier and those we see shot in the head were shot after reanimation (but because they died of old age there was no external damage) and maybe in the confusion some Vatos members shot still alive members or any numbers of ways it could of went down.
@VintageCars999 exactly, imagine how you'd react with none of this knowledge, you were just protecting some elderly people in a crisis, the nice thing to do then one of them who you know wasn't bitten, dies, gets up and attacks your homie. Maybe there was arguments from some of the gang who wanted to kill the rest of the elderly people to make the location safe for them and the others who wanted to protect them still and then some infighting happens and boom, this stuff goes down.
Violent gangs in TWD that do what they want would be a dime a dozen. Such gangs would also start culling each other, or merging to become the size of the Saviours.
Is there enough environmental storytelling to talk about the small office building areas Abe and Sasha end up where Abraham finds the military uniform?
Governor definitely did it... Merle stated that he was picked up by him when he was bleeding out. Merle wasn't gonna get far with his hand chopped off.
Some time later the surviving military had regrouped at fort Bening which was now a large refugee center once the military felt there base was secure they sent a large group of their soldiers down to retake the city. the governor possibility depends on when exactly he lost his wife and daughter and found Merle because if it was him it would be between the two events, the national guards couldn't get that tank through the streets and who knows if it would start, we never got much proof of the size of Randel's group, the terminus group is a big possibility too
I think its possible it was a group of people we've never heard of before. Maybe they had a few traitors from within that was a part of a larger set. They had older folk in that nursing home that they truly cared about and realized that resources were limited. So a couple of them sneaked out and found their "set" and brought them to the nursing home. They got their older folk they cared about who was the OG and founder of the "Set".
Yeah I really don’t believe it was The Governor like a lot of people think despite the fact that this is totally 100% something he’d do. the vatos were in the inner part of the walker infested city and just don’t think he would have risked going all the way into it just to take them out. Guillermo himself tells rick they’ve already encountered hostile people so it was probably whoever was harassing them at that point in time
I've always wondered why, with so many psychos and survivalists in Rick's group's region, there was never a person or a team of people stalking them. In the areas they had passed before Alexandria, why didn't they ever get jumped? It would not have taken much for a trained person with a rifle or a stealthy individual to break into the prison.

Thank goodness Sophia got bit and wasn’t found by Randall’s group who were nearby at the time. It sounds brutal and worse that she was bit and died but it’s much better than what would’ve happened to her had she been found by Randall’s people.
@@StarKushExoticGalaxy I kind of wish they did this though and had her kidnapped so that Rick’s group when interrogating Randall find out about it and have to make the bold decision to attack Randall’s group’s camp, Shane would be against it of course because it risks the rest of the group despite being a way to save Sophia. The group goes on the mission with Carol going as well and becoming a badass for the first time getting her first living kill, Rick goes to lead the charge alongside Daryl, T-Dog, Jimmy, and Andrea. Jimmy would die here during the shootout but Sophia would be saved and brought back to the farm. The group would realize the true threat of Randall’s people after this seeing their camp first hand. It would make the tension in the rest of the season even more intense. Also Sophia and Carl get to survive to the end together and get over this trauma. Randall’s group deserved better so it would’ve been cool to see them like this as a much larger threat.
I think you’re spot on here. Almost had to be the group that Randal/Tony/Dave were from. Until the end of season 2, I thought that group would eventually find the farm and have a showdown with Rick and Co. Would’ve been awesome imo
I’ve always thought the Vatos Gang was slaughtered by the Saviors, but it doesn’t make sense since Negan was hunkered down in a basement with Lucile for seven months, while Rick woke up after his coma two months into the apocalypse.

Honestly I wouldn't take a deleted scene as canon. But in my opinion it was a gang still operating, I mean there would be a lot of pre apocalypse criminal groups still around

I like to think that overtime the elderly saw how much toll and time it took for The Vatos to care for them during the outbreak decided that they lived their time and decided to go out on their terms. Either by finding a way out of the stronghold and into walkers or simply choosing a option that would not make it more difficult for the Vatos. - Or a more darker theory is that there was a internal conflict between them and during a conflict the leaders elder got in between the two sides and someone accidentally killed them leading to an all out slaughter that only left a handful of people left. The survivors realizing that there is no point staying packed up what they can carry, took care of the bodies, and left the city and try their luck in the country or coast. -- Or maybe one of them decided to take advantage of the elderly with Alzheimer’s or dementia and lead them outside telling them that they are going to meet with their relatives and left walkers take them as not to spend so much resources on them
I was hoping they give closure to the Vatos, since they kinda just vanish into thin air. I like them, the leader especially. Kinda wished he joined Rick somewhere like Morgan did. My theory was that one of the weak and sickly elders died and turned one night then set a chain reaction like how it was in the Prison.
I always think what happened was an old person died and turned, with possible casualties (they probably didn’t know everyone was infected), and either some people panicked and just started killing all the elderly, or the vatos felt like they had no choice but to let their parents/grandparents go

just stumbled across your videos and I love your content! Great videos to watch while drawing ! I hope you make more environmental storytelling videos because I love those little background details in the show and always felt those moments were memorable haha
What if (and I’m not sure but it could be) it was Simon’s group before they made contact with negan, because Simon seems like the type of person to kill old people in cold blood and take their shit and run.
Great take brah. I completely forgot about Randles group. I think it was an inside job. Someone old probably died and turned, the group had to take it out. Then after that incident it divided the vatos. Someone in the group stoked the flames of fear about helping the old and dying was too dangerous

@ I definitely understand your theory. I could see it playing out like that. There was another group in ATL that no one talks about, the Grady Memorial police. They were a twisted group who kidnapped people and took supplies. I can see them whipping out an old folks home for supplies
For me Randalls group is a big and interesting mystery we never saw them again and they could be groups who we know I mean maybe the vatos became randalls group maybe they are the saviors or the claimers and maybe they are the people who attacked terminus maybe they are even the cannibalism we met in 11/5
@@joe_mmamaa same thing with the vatos. They locked themselves in a old folks home to protect their family until ricks group showed up but dude still made a video about them even after years of finally knowing what happened to them
I absolutely what you did with Merle. I didn't expect Merle to be so "high up" on the list. Infact, I never, ever considered him a possible candidate for the topic at hand! "Could Merle have single handedly taken out the entire group by himself?" was really excited to hear what you had to say about Merle! "Well, simply put.... not a chance" -.- damn, that was way out of left field. i..... i really didnt know what to say....... but i knew how to react and that was to laugh my ass off It's just so funny how you caught my attention when you mention Merle, only to rather bluntly say that he's an automatic write off ToT It is now my head cannon that it was infact Merle that took out the Vatos gang ;)
I thought it was confirmed that the Vatos did it themselves? As in one of the residents died, and then turned, which caused panic because then they realized that no matter how you die you turn. It was supposed to foreshadow the reveal in the finale that they’re all infected.
There was an episode later in the series right before Rick, Carl, and michonne walked into Morgan’s trap where you see a burned body with a gold tooth. I always thought that was Guillermo because they focused on that gold tooth.
Didnt merle said in season 3 to andrea that the governor saved him cuz when he cut his arm he almost died from bleeding. How can he do that when he is locked up in apartment?
I mean it can be possible if someone inside the nursery did a mutiny, say if an elderly person dies and at this point not everyone would know how someone who isn’t bitten would turn if they died naturally or suffered an injury to the head. The people just went chaotic not sure if someone was bit in their group so just a massacre occurs. Maybe some survivors just came across it before Rick and the herd knew it was ripe for picking or a survivor did manage survive the chaos and took all the remaining supplies. It’s just a theory ofc, but it’s so fun to think about how these stories and background events occur with the audience just wouldn’t pay attention or give it much thought.
I think it was intended to be foreshadowing for the governor but in season 3 they obviously decided for different direction for woodbury and the governor.
Wouldn't it make sense that a resident died and reanimated? Then, they attacked and killed some of the vatos? The vatos would come to realize what Jenner told Rick (don't need to be bit to turn). Then the surviving vatos mercy kill the residents and leave...
So to add to What you said in your video I always thought in my head Canon and I also thought this was a missed opportunity for the series. Had always thought that Randall's group were prototypes of what would eventually become the Saviors. Especially in comic book Canon the sabers started off as a survival group that was lead and did horrible crap to people before Negan took charge pseudo civilized it. I always thought there should have been a call back, maybe negan explaining to the captured alexandrian's or to Rick himself about what their group was before him and to hint that Randall's group being the OGs. One of the things that they missed out on I feel like now they're doing with the miniseries is kind of since they knew more of the plot. Thanks to the comics, kind of tying together loose ends that would have made sense like this.
I always thought it was a strange decision for the writers to include more groups in the later seasons than in the first. Right after collapse there would have been hundreds of small groups doin their thing one day then being erased from existence the next. It happend so many times to the main group they just had plot armor. They could have easily been wiped out at the rock quary and story over. It could have been literally anyone. They wernt a gang. They were janitors and nurses. Im sure there were many randle type groups out there.

Obviously it was deleted because it was way too early to show another Group of survivors being ruthless and killing the vatos gang and the elderly, that’s why it was deleted, we wasn’t shown that other people can be dangerous until rick met Dave and Tony and realized that other groups are dangerous
A rival gang did it, I remember reading years ago on a Reddit page there was supposed to be a scene of Rick Shane and Daryl having a shootout with gangbanger types after leaving the vatos compound in the deleted scene. Person who posted that was supposedly involved in the extras crew.
For the national guard, unless they had people properly trained to drive an operate that tank (meaning their MOS was 19k, also referred to as tankers) they wouldn’t have gotten far with the tank. Also, those tanks suck fuel, to the point it’s gallons per mile, not miles per gallon, and they also have the shortage range of any land vehicle in service with the US military (meaning they drive the shortest distance on a full tank of gas). They would also need something to sustain themselves, typically you’re looking at individual sustainment of 72 hours if they get proper notice. Meaning the individual soldier can sustain themselves for 72 hours with little to no resupply, including food, water, and ammo. If they went through all of their supplies and then some, they would be hurting just like everyone else. Once logistics break down/fail so does your military. So at about 2 months, they definitely could be hurting for supplies.
People forget that the Vatos probably never knew people that were not bit would still turn, also I doubt the governor did this as He was already in Woodbury by the time the farm fell, maybe the hospital group that kidnapped Beth did it but that is also a stretch, Merle possibly could've and might have also used the place to treat his severed hand, there's also the possibility of another group
I always wondered what happened to the vatos they were a strong group the police at the hospital actually had shotguns and M4A1s shown on the background of the screen they all only used the issued G17s though
Since we only see the elderly among the dead in the nursing home, I always assumed that at some point the Vatos gang realised just how serious things were getting and mercy killed the residents before leaving to try and make it on their own somewhere else.

But they say it was nothing but elderly people dead . No vatos were seeing .
pretty sure an elder folk died at some point and started wrecking havoc. Everyone got infected or ran away.
I thought so too, but most of the bodies had headshot wounds. So that's why the theories imply other people were responsible
Rick's gun bag is in the gov's "office". I think you see it in the background while he's giving Andrea and Michonne the tour.
He would have chopped off their heads at some point to keep for his sick trophy collection.
Yeah after seeing how Merle ended up with the Governor which is why I thought he killed the Vatos.
Though Randall's group could have certainly been responsible too. Another theory was a rival gang or internal issues.

If they are the same person, then maybe shumpert was an inside man for getting the vatos wiped out
The actor that played Shumpert was playing a different character with the Vatos.
@@lastrrr4134 I thought so. I don't remember if I heard that was confirmed, but I take your word for it

Remember in Season 3 when Merle revealed that he eventually would have robbed the camp if Daryl was with him? The only reason I can think it never happened is because Merle needed medical attention for his hand. Then maybe the Governor's group went back to attack the camp only to find Rick's group already left for the CDC and gave up on trying to look for them
@@KuYa_Boi Merle had amputated his hand and had just cauterized the wound. They found the building where he had treated his wound and had just missed runnning into Merle (the cans of Sterno were still burning, so they would have missed him by minutes - to an hour or two.)
Merle would have been in an incredible amount ot pain.

YES! I ALWAYS said that Dawn’s crew couldn’t have been responsible for a number of reasons, but people insist it was them
I actually think THEY are the least likely contenders here
I agree.Even by the time we meet Dawn's crew, they are not cold blooded killers, but essentially running an extortion racket. Dawn herself
explained that the Mercy hospital cops were still trying to stick to normal moral standards and police policies for some time after the fall
under their police captain commanding officer. It was only when he died, and Dawn as a police lieutenant, assumed command, that the
Mercy cops started slipping into corruption. Dawn allowed her officers to exploit other survivors because they were ready to abandon
their posts after the death of their captain who had provided firm moral leadership. Dawn, unable to enforce the same level of discipline
among her officers, struck a compromise to maintain her authority.
It important to remember that the Mercy cops tried to maintain a level of legitimacy and moral authority among themselves and the survivors
they exploited.
Cold Blooded execution of elders at a nursing home so early into the apocalypse, would seem to be crossing a line that nobody could walk back
from. What would be the point of maintaining the illusion of being cops and looking like professionals if your group has already shown you have
no moral restrictions to your action?
Good point. The guns being taken should be incidental to getting the food and medical supplies so early into the fall.Any group with the guns and
manpower to take out the Vatos would seem to have to make a risk vs reward determination if the bag of guns and ammo was worth expending
the lives and ammo you already have. We have to keep in mind that a random group of survivors would be made up out of people with little to
no tactical or weapons training or experience. Even civilians who know or figured out how to use guns, don't have the mental conditioning to
bare "acceptable losses" to achive tactical goals.
Now. If you are leading a random group of former office workers, college students, and service employees, its gonna be a hard sell getting them
to risk death or wounds (likely resulting in death) to get more guns when you already have plenty of guns.

You’re videos got me back into rewatching the show. Great work you’ve been doing.
His are videos???
I love that they added the scene of them returning to netflix, it adds more to them, leaving Atlanta
Did they really? I’ve never seen the episode with the scene included
I've been marathoning the show on Netflix and the scene was not included
You know a show is damn good the writing season 1-5 when it’s 10+ years old and STILL talked about
I think the more realistic ending for the vatos is death by walkers. They were caring for the elderly in the heart of a city infested by millions of walkers. All it would take is for one person under their care to pass away unnoticed and boom just like that it's over.
I don’t think it was the governor I think it was actually the military the same military that the governor later killed I think this for several reasons
1, VISUAL EVIDENCE, the helicopter rick sees flying in the first episode is a military helicopter in season three we learn from the governor that the army guys he killed had a helicopter that crashed.

My theory had always been this, this was meant to be a hint to the revelation that everyone is infected at the end of the season.
I always thought this too. But it's cool not really knowing and I kinda like the idea that it could have been Randalls group. They were total wankers.
This is really smart
That's a great theory. Maybe one of the elderly died, and the Vatos had to put them all down or something...
@@PRESIDENT_LEMON yea I don't recall seeing any of the Vatos shot or dead.
Violent gangs in TWD that do what they want would be a dime a dozen. Such gangs would also start culling each other, or merging to become the size of the Saviours.
Is there enough environmental storytelling to talk about the small office building areas Abe and Sasha end up where Abraham finds the military uniform?
I’ll definitely look into it!
Governor definitely did it... Merle stated that he was picked up by him when he was bleeding out. Merle wasn't gonna get far with his hand chopped off.

Love what you're doing with these deep dives. This deeper exploration of different smaller stories is what "Tales" could've and should've been.
the governor possibility depends on when exactly he lost his wife and daughter and found Merle because if it was him it would be between the two events, the national guards couldn't get that tank through the streets and who knows if it would start, we never got much proof of the size of Randel's group, the terminus group is a big possibility too
I think its possible it was a group of people we've never heard of before.
Guillermo himself tells rick they’ve already encountered hostile people so it was probably whoever was harassing them at that point in time
Vato is a term for gangster for someone who is crazy
I've always wondered why, with so many psychos and survivalists in Rick's group's region, there was never a person or a team of people stalking them. In the areas they had passed before Alexandria, why didn't they ever get jumped? It would not have taken much for a trained person with a rifle or a stealthy individual to break into the prison.
I like the idea of no one that we know on screen being the ones to commit such crimes. That was probably the whole point of the deleted scene.

@@sppj3140 Awesome take! That helicopter Rick saw flying in season 1 must've been used for something.
Vatos got cocky and brought in wrong attention to their base
Thank goodness Sophia got bit and wasn’t found by Randall’s group who were nearby at the time. It sounds brutal and worse that she was bit and died but it’s much better than what would’ve happened to her had she been found by Randall’s people.
Oh wow, the image of what they couldve done popped into my head
@Kingofportals they should've hired you to be a writer on the show, that's a good idea and makes sense, logically that's what the characters would do
I think you’re spot on here. Almost had to be the group that Randal/Tony/Dave were from. Until the end of season 2, I thought that group would eventually find the farm and have a showdown with Rick and Co. Would’ve been awesome imo
Never waste a bullet...... its wasnt the governor.
I’ve always thought the Vatos Gang was slaughtered by the Saviors, but it doesn’t make sense since Negan was hunkered down in a basement with Lucile for seven months, while Rick woke up after his coma two months into the apocalypse.

-
Or a more darker theory is that there was a internal conflict between them and during a conflict the leaders elder got in between the two sides and someone accidentally killed them leading to an all out slaughter that only left a handful of people left. The survivors realizing that there is no point staying packed up what they can carry, took care of the bodies, and left the city and try their luck in the country or coast.
--
Or maybe one of them decided to take advantage of the elderly with Alzheimer’s or dementia and lead them outside telling them that they are going to meet with their relatives and left walkers take them as not to spend so much resources on them
I was hoping they give closure to the Vatos, since they kinda just vanish into thin air. I like them, the leader especially. Kinda wished he joined Rick somewhere like Morgan did.
My theory was that one of the weak and sickly elders died and turned one night then set a chain reaction like how it was in the Prison.
These theories be darker than under my bed💀🙏🏿
I always think what happened was an old person died and turned, with possible casualties (they probably didn’t know everyone was infected), and either some people panicked and just started killing all the elderly, or the vatos felt like they had no choice but to let their parents/grandparents go

Grady Memorial Hospital would be my best bit.. With maniac Gordon and crazy McDonell in charge of the streets, a lot of s*** could've happened..
I thought about them and wondered if they would ever pop up again. The mexican family was another. We did see the father again. He joined Negan.
"Well, simply put.... not a chance" -.- damn, that was way out of left field. i..... i really didnt know what to say....... but i knew how to react and that was to laugh my ass off
It's just so funny how you caught my attention when you mention Merle, only to rather bluntly say that he's an automatic write off ToT
It is now my head cannon that it was infact Merle that took out the Vatos gang ;)
U also can’t put it past Governor because he is so unhinged he can do anything
Your forgetting half the vatos was apart of the governor men when we see them again
I always figured it was the governor and his group since they were the ones who found Merle in the first place

Awesome work, once again. Also, I'm eagerly looking forward to part 3 of the Saviors saga: All Out War.
Bro, i love your work. KEEP IT UP ❤❤❤
Wouldn't it make sense that a resident died and reanimated?
Thanks to the comics, kind of tying together loose ends that would have made sense like this.
man i’m LOVING ur channel man
I always thought it was a strange decision for the writers to include more groups in the later seasons than in the first.
It's crazy we never saw them again
Just remember Hector is gonna be running 3 Honda civics with spoon engines
I don’t think it was the governor I think it was actually the military the same military that the governor later killed I think this for several reasons
1, VISUAL EVIDENCE, the helicopter rick sees flying in the first episode is a military helicopter in season three we learn from the governor that the army guys he killed had a helicopter that crashed.
I think they held out as long as they could then mercy killed the patients before the able-bodied ones left to try to survive.
My bet is on Simon working without negan, afterall we saw what he did to the “Garbage people”.
Obviously it was deleted because it was way too early to show another Group of survivors being ruthless and killing the vatos gang and the elderly, that’s why it was deleted, we wasn’t shown that other people can be dangerous until rick met Dave and Tony and realized that other groups are dangerous
They probably died pretty early. They weren’t the smartest and very hostile
A rival gang did it, I remember reading years ago on a Reddit page there was supposed to be a scene of Rick Shane and Daryl having a shootout with gangbanger types after leaving the vatos compound in the deleted scene. Person who posted that was supposedly involved in the extras crew.
At 7:43 one of the front row walkers doesn’t have his neck makeup cover by the shirt. In fact it’s laying on top of his shirt.
A: most likely eaten and turned trying to thug it out and hold down the block.
Started rewatching yesterday and forgot this group
Well i think since it was a deleted scene... They all survived and lived happily until passing away due to old age cozy in their beds. The end
I always wondered what happened to the vatos they were a strong group
the police at the hospital actually had shotguns and M4A1s shown on the background of the screen they all only used the issued G17s though
