The only thing I would add is to make your folders numbered. For instance I use this: 1. Comps 2. Assets -- 1. SFX -- 2. VFX -- 3. Images -- 4. Project Files 3. Renders That's just rough but you get the point. This way you will always have the same layout. Infact I have created a .aep inside my project folder template inside windows. So when I start a new project, I just copy !project-name-folder-template and then rename it. Inside that is: 1. Footage -- camA ---- date -- camB ---- date 2. Documents (docs, pdfs, spreadsheets etc) 3. Assets -- 1. SFX -- 2. VFX -- 3. Images -- 4. Other 4. Project Files -- 1. Premiere -- 2. After Effects -- 3. Resolve -- 4. Audition -- 5. PSD, AI etc... 5. Exports -- 1. MASTER -- 2. Drafts Give or take the structure but it's more about the ideology.
Hey, thanks! Since I made this video over a year ago, I've changed the way I create folders in AE, indeed with numbers, makes it even more neat and tidy. What you can even do which is awesome, if you go to the After Effects preferences -> New Project, you can check the box 'New Project Loads Template'. Then you can tell AE to always automatically load in a specific .aep file with all your folders pre-defined. Then you don't have to copy your .aep file and rename it, AE automatically imports everything :)
@@CampKeyframetutorials oh nice that's something I didn't know! I will start using that. I've been making .aep inside my AE project folder then using that instead of using template within AE. Will be going through many more tutorials you have! :)
Cheers, this helped a lot. Wondering if you can share in a video how you ended up using your motion skills to get clients. Would be an interesting story to hear.
Hey! I'm preparing for some video's where I talk about these subjects. So not really After Effects tutorials but more things revolving around animation and working in the industry. I want to film myself when doing this though which is quite something different than I am used to but I'm going to try to make there video's soon :) Thanks for watching my video's and commenting on them! :) Love the support. Cheers!
Great tutorial, but considered a possibility to improve this title an add something about "How to optimize your After Effects an Illustrator workflow". For exemple, I was looking for organized folders inside AE projects only, best practice and stuff. Cheers
I highly recommend Overlord, it makes the communication btwn AE and Illustrator so much less effort and pain...have you seen it? Its a script of @battleaxe, and it Is really Amazing 😉
Hey man. The crazy thing is, is that I have bought this plugin last year somewhere when it was on sale but never actually installed and used it haha, I kind of forgot it. After your comment I installed it and took a look at it and indeed, it's freakin' awesome haha! I'll definitely make a tutorial about this in the near future to let people know about this plugin. Cheers! :)
Yeey, I’m glad I could help, have fun with it. You should check out the documentation on the developer’s page as it hase some Really usefull hidden features such as animating shapes in Illustrator, or exporting color palette...and stuff

Thank you!
Thank you. Very usefull.
I love to see AE pros having the same plugins and scripts in the workspace like I do :)
Haha awesome, what's your favourite plugin?
