This is the best illustrated explanation on the internet for guitar neck adjustment and string action.Thank you for selflessly sharing your knowledge and experience with us.I will definitely continue to follow your channel and learn more. Thanks and all the best.
Thanks for the great instructions. Glad I found this video after watching several others, each of which made me progressively less confident about adjusting the truss on my new Tele. Followed the steps in this vid and got the action I wanted, without damaging my expensive roasted maple neck.
Same here. Beautiful neck, no damage! This is the first time i have ever seen anyone instruct to let it sit for 24 hours after adjustment too! Enjoy that Tele, I bought a G&L ASAT, work of art Tele!
Many thanks for this. I recently purchased a telecaster player. I'm not too happy with the shop set up as I am getting string buzzzz. So I'll buy a few tools and take my time with your videos. Happy new year from Pete, Bellevue Studio, Auchtermuchty, Scotland 😎
You are very welcome! :) If you need any more assistance, please don't hesitate to post your questions here or drop me a line over my website (bandforge.net). Happy new year to you too, as well! :D
Boom! perfect....I just bought a Telecaster American ultra lux sunburst....Plays kinda clunky and iffy...I just made an ever so slight clockwise turn with the enclosed truss rod tool and schazzam....Guitar went from stiff and questionable to, wow this thing plays pretty nice all the way down the neck...what an easy fix. .... Thanks cute girl from Germany(?)
Hallo Rina. LG Robert
Thank you so much for this very informative and important video! I actually never thought about gauging neck relief with a .009 string. You are a genius! Will you marry me? 😆
Hi, I want to adjust my truss rod but how can I understand which fret should I use to check with feeler gauge? I know I should use capo on first fret and I know I should push with my finger where my guitar body meet with my neck but I don’t know which fret should I use to check with feeler gauge.
YOU make the choice about altering truss-rod loose or tight and YOU pay or not to a qualified repair guy. It's a 1-time adjustment and you can pay for that , if need be!
Sometimes it's a problem with the tool. Are you sure you're using the right wrench? The nut can be metric or imperial and this can make a huge difference. Also, what's happening exactly? Is the nut turning without the neck reacting to it or is it so tight that you can't move it at all?
I don't get it. This only works if the string height is already correct. If the string height is too high to begin with, there will be a larger gap between the 6th string and the 8th fret. If you then tighten the truss rod to get the desired height on that fret, you will have over tightened the neck creating a convex bow. Straightening a neck is about finding the ideal tension compensation that results in no buzzing.
We bypass the current setting of the string height by putting a capo on the first fret. That's the trick and it's crucial for a correct setting. If we don't use a capo, then you are right, of course. I hope this helps!
THIS KNOWS HER SHIT. HER TIPS ARE SPOT ON, AND WILL HELP YOUR GUITAR SOUND GOOD, AS IT SHOULD.

What if my neck ( that of the guitar, not actually mine) is not completely straight and my truss rod cannot be tightened anymore ???? New Fender ? 😩
That's more something you could try fixing with a small wooden wedge in the neck pocket.

in measuring the height do you still hold it in the 17th fret?
The allen wrench doesnt turn the truss rod. I dont know if its the truss rod thats broken or me thats doing it wrong
Sometimes it's a problem with the tool. Are you sure you're using the right wrench? The nut can be metric or imperial and this can make a huge difference. Also, what's happening exactly? Is the nut turning without the neck reacting to it or is it so tight that you can't move it at all?
Is it on a lefthand same direction?
Yes, it should be same as left handed guitars are not built with any kind of special truss rod.
I gave you a like, not because i learned anything, but, because you're cute!
