I've listened to these guys for a few years, but I never had the chance to see them live. Also, for whatever reason, I never looked them up playing live on youtube till now. I always kinda thought they wouldn't be able to play live, just because of the crazy things they do... It's nice, sometimes, being proved completely wrong.
I grew up in Temecula and my parents still live there. We moved to the area in 1989 before it blew up into a microcosm of Orange County suburbia. I now live outside of California and, looking back, am interested to see that the entire state reflects the kind of transformation that has happened in my hometown. When I visit I like to go hiking on the nearby Santa Rosa Plateau - protected land.
@foolery15 I think I understand the concept for the song actually, and I think I its pretty brilliant. A sort of Utopian suburban Complex that is subdivided into smaller cubes each containing different artistic or philosophical movements or "scenes". The song has an eclectic tapestry like sound of continuously unfolding chordal and tempo changes symbolizing the varying colors and qualities of the hodgepodge housing, and its located in Suburbia which is ironic...Maybe, that's my interpretation.
agh, yeah, I finally figured this one out pretty well but to sing over it...totally want a 12 string now though, does anyone know what his electric 12 (circa Getty Address and Stillness video) ?
so i'm originally from minneapolis (half of my family went to the university of minnesota) but when i was a kid i moved to temecula. it's like my life is a fucking joke.
@HeurtoSkeurto he doesnt give a shit what is different or the same, he plays it cause he likes the way it sounds. also if your better why are u commenting on this, and not him. why arent u the professional musician, if your better...?
@HeurtoSkeurto - Some of the most influential music is not technically groundbreaking nor does it need to be beautiful or the like. It's the same with visual art . Why doesn't anyone paint like Da Vinci anymore? - Can no one do it now? Realism is a style - not a pinnacle of art just like musical style and technique. Maybe you technically have a more beautiful voice than Tom Waits too, but his raspy voice and influential style got him into the Rock n Roll hall of fame.
dirty projectors is one of my favorite bands. i was lucky enough to get to see them in july. i actually live in temecula and if you can get past the the bros, the excruciating heat in the summer, and all the right-wing conservatives, the town isn't too bad. it would be awesome if they came down here to film the music video.
@abluesman100 It's much different when you write a song rather than learning a song. He's playing it to the rythym in his head, it's how he wrote it. I'm sure he couldn't play Hendrix. It's not hit style....
I play a 12-string, but right-handed. The melody he plays sounds like Gentle Giant. Also, I would never play this with the capo on the 7th fret. It's not necessary; just change the key. Nice song.
@HeurtoSkeurto Yup, good thing I didn't get my hopes up. I'm really glad for you though that your false sense of superiority allows you some brief solace from your otherwise crippling insecurity about your own abilities. Who cares how complicated the piece is? In terms of technical proficiency/mastery, there are plenty of artists in a class well above the ones you mention. Does this make Elliott Smith or Johnny Marr any less enjoyable? I say no.

This is why I love the Dirty Projectors. 2 capos on Dave's guitar. Awesome.

A famous juggler was once asked how he juggled. after he tried to explain, he wasn't able to juggle for 2 years.
GaryEddyOnline this somehow made me think
Wow
As a juggler I find that dubious..
and what hits the spot yeah. like GATORADEEEEE haha
they sound beautiful even live, this is probably the most interesting band ive ever heard
Beautiful song. I love Dave, he's so awesome.
Man how does he have such perfect mastery of his computer.
All twelve. Do you know how difficult it is to find a rental left-handed twelve string guitar?
@AirHendrix91 this is in standard tuning if you thought it wasnt. he is an awesome guitarist.
wow this is impressive. i didnt realize he was that good of a guitarist.
@abluesman100 . Totally! He's doing exceptionally complex parts on both guitar (fingerpicking an acoustic 12-string!) and vocals.

I live in temecula. get me out plz
what a great performance. I thought two guitars played the part he is doing.

They made that shii BANG nikkuh!
2:00 Oh look at him!
@NightmaresandLulabys How are the sunrises out there? they as pretty as this song??
@Raelspark He probably play it in that key because it's within his vocal range...
@Raelspark If you change the key will be a strain on the voice, no?
@HeurtoSkeurto he doesnt give a shit what is different or the same, he plays it cause he likes the way it sounds. also if your better why are u commenting on this, and not him. why arent u the professional musician, if your better...?
best part of the song

unbelievably talented. They're better live.
@abluesman100 And sound great! Both vocals and guitar.
is that a 12 string guitar with only 6 strings?
Hey, could you tell me where I could find these god tabs? The ones I've seen so far were kind of shitty.

I know a girl that hits the spot like gatorade , funny her name means sunrise
Not impossible. Practice practice practice. I managed to do that, anybody can :)
Maybe there could be this tremendous fortune excavated! It yes... Shhh... Temecula sunrise
@deepsecond which is ironic because the girl that is dressed like a devil is named Angel
@cockyrooster That made me laugh!

Gentle Giant! Lots of connections between DP and GG, wonder if Dave ever checked them out...
the girls are dressed like an angel and devil :D

@jmamana1
So, because he went to Yale he writes terrific lyrics? No.
Ridiculous talent
