I still remember the tap on my head with Guru Magda's stick. It's a lesson I needed at the time. I've never forgotten a "simple" lesson... make sure your stick is in the right position! Thanks.

I did years of this training, but if you look at the Dog brothers, and I see what happens When I sparred with sticks, All this stuff goes out the window except very basic block and hit and usually it's a total cluster. Same with knife fighting only that's worse since blades are deadly. Out of all the arts I've done, kali stick and knife training have prepared me the least for real application of that type of fighting. Training has to be harder and faster. Way harder, way faster. The problem is not many people would stick around. that's why this stuff still gets taught like this, to keep the students coming and engaged. perhaps Kendo has a better method for the stick? At least they fight, but I've never done it. Knife fighting is almost an enigma. It is so easy to get stabbed, even with tons of training. I've figured out some stuff with other people that works better for me, but Still I don't want to be in a knife fight. I can handle a stick. At the worst I would just eat it and keep fighting, which I have done on the street as well as in sparring, but a mistake with a knife can kill you.

ist denn noch niemanden aufgefallen, das all diese blocks nicht funktionieren würden, wenn der angreifer nach dem stockangriff gleich mit der leren hand zuschlagen würde?

Redonda a term in Arnis means "Round" in Spanish. Is a continuous circular downward-striking, double-stick twirling technique that serves as both a good defense and a good offense😊.

Man... If you ever used this stuff you'd end up in jail.
Makes me want to start learning martial arts again, but it's just too expensive.

+1Flyingfist Not necessarily true... You can learn the basics of Escrima on a channel of your liking, I recommend Doug Marcaida, and if you live in NY, consistently bug him enough to teach you some knife techniques, and stick, or sword techniques. I doubt that you'd be able to get a Balisong in NY, because it's now the only state that Century won't sell them to. It's sad to, because learning them can actually help. Well, it helped me transition from the nunchaku, and the stick, then the sticks to my swords. Well, the equipments expensive, but you don't need a large collection like me. Just 1-2 nunchaku, one octagon oak w/ strings, and the other, polypropylene or with a metal chain. Go through Century. Escrima Sticks, go to TFW, and begin with Rattan. Eventually choose an Ironwood pair. If you're tall 28" pair, or if you're 5ft 4in or smaller get 24", or if you're taller 28," or you might want something custom if you're Kareem Abdul Jabbar. Cold Steel has a 32" heavy Escrima Stick made our Polypropylene, an it had sections that are marked so you can saw pieces off if it's to big. Then buy 1 nice sword, and 1 nice knife. Again, I recommend TFW, or if you have 1 Ginunting, or Talibung from Top Prado Blades, those things are built to last, & used in real combat in Master Sgt. Prado's unit in the Philippine Marines. I saw his American middleman Oliver cut a tree trunk in 1/2 with their Talibung. The thing never broke, or bent, and like the Rattan stick, it doesn't reverberate through out your arm.

+Jaime Flor thanks for the reply, but I'm in the UK. I haven't done escrima properly since 1999, but I did a bit more in 2002. ;-)
Over here you'd get in serious trouble if you used escrima on someone. Our instructor told us. I was into martial arts because I saw Enter The Dragon and other films when I was a kid and obviously wanted to be a ninja ;-)
I just watch martial arts stuff online every now and again. I lost so much fitness and flexibility when I stopped :-(

It's a very sad thing to see a supposed JKD instructor never quite get Bruce's message. Here is a man trapped, cramped and distorted by the 'Classical Mess'. :-((.

(0:43) QUOTE: "And so in some styles, like, errrr... the 'Lacoste' system."
You need go no further here to see this isn't a JKD player. Sadly 'Cass' has got back in the boat. If you want to teach people the "Classical Mess" then do so but, don't claim you're a JKD player at the same time. That's like calling yourself a vegan while teaching people how to fillet steaks.

Bruce did incorporate fma, because if dan inosanto,he also researched silat as well as savate and incorporated them all into jkd as well as the bixing and wingchun.most people dont k ow because they have never seen all of bruces writings and drawings. Everything he wrote down isnt in the tao of jeet kune do.
