  • A selecton of clips charting the growth of my Caribena versicolor since i got him in July 2018.
    This is one awesome spider and surely, a must for every collection.
    Mine is a right hungry beast, right up until he moults and the colour changes as he grows show why this T is right up there on peoples wish lists.

      I always loved insects and arachnids. Never thought I'd keep one as a pet. Then one day I met a bold jumping spider in the park. I watched it crawl all over me for about 20 minutes. Then she somehow got into my backpack without me realizing, and I accidentally brought her home. When she jumped out of my backpack onto my bed, I scooped her up, put her in a cup, did some quick research on jumping spider care, and rushed to the nearest pet store to buy all the essentials. Then a few weeks later she laid eggs. Now I've got 19 spiders living in my room (until they are old enough for me to release most of them) and now I'm contemplating getting a tarantula.

      Bro I'm still arachnophobic to an extent, 36 and petrified of British House spiders but always been fascinated by pretty tarantulas. Got the chance to hold a Chile rose for charity and did it. Now I have a baby Chile rose, versicolor, pink toe, red knee, sun tiger, and a white striped birdeater. I'll get a golden blue leg baboon for my first old world and I reckon I'll get a Brazilian black and a desert blonde then leave it at that.
      Hold my Ts (well not the birdeater or suntiger as they are too quick for me still) but STILL terrified of big British House spiders. Your fear will never go, but you'll appreciate them more and you'll love Tarantulas. They move differently to true spiders, I think that's why I like them. Best decision I ever made. Watch Tarantula collective. I binged all his videos and then took the plunge!

    I purchased mine right before she went into premolt, apparently. She'd never eat the whole cricket and when I'd introduced it to her, she'd pat it on the head 😂 like "I acknowledge this prey but I'm not particularly hungry atm." she's so polite that I named her "Ferdinand." she molted last night after 2 months of tentative feedings and I spritzed her enclosure through the vent holes so she's exta comfortable. Can't wait to see her new mojo in a few days 😁

    • @SpidersSpiders1
      @SpidersSpiders1  2 роки тому

      I feed my slings and small juvies once a week mate but I'm not averse to making them wait an extra few days if they've already got a fat booty🤣
      Larger juvies and adults are fed every 2 weeks but again, it depends on abdomen size so some may go longer..
      This is just my way of doing things though, other people feed more regularly (2-3 times a week for slings and weekly for juvies and adults) I find that increases the chance of fasting periods or really long premoults though so I do it my way to ensure everything is hungry come feeding time. Another advantage is that if anything doesn't feed, it's usually a sure sign of premoult as they should be hungry 🤘

    • @SpidersSpiders1
      @SpidersSpiders1  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you mate, yeah she's come on loads since this was made and is a full grown adult now.
      I feed all my slings weekly and my adults every 10 days or so depending on abdomen size. I do one or two shelves each night and spread it over the week, save having to do 8-9 hr marathon feeding sessions to do them all at once. Others feed more often but this is the cycle I've always found suits me. I give them all a big feed to make sure it lasts and if any don't feed, it's usually guaranteed they're going into premoult. They all get watered weekly. In regards to food items, I use a mix of crickets, locusts, mealworms and morios of varying sizes and try to mix their diet up a bit.
      If it's recently moulted, it may just not be ready for a feed yet pal. It could also be a fussy eater though, it does happen on occasion😂🤘

      You could do mate. most would probably say that's a bit big for now. The spider might struggle to find prey at feeding time. I have one about that size too and its currently living in a cereal container. My AF is in a 20x20x30 and does really well in that. That being said, I always say, you work with what you've got so as long as you fill the enclosure with plenty of hiding options and have an idea where it is at feeding time, I don't see why you couldn't put it in one that size mate. It would negate any need for future rehousings as well as it'd be a permanent home for it.

      Thank you mate. I just kept mine in a sling pot with plenty of holes in the lid. Don't overdo it on the moisture side. I keep mine relatively dry and wet the substrate a bit once every week to 10 days. I don't use water bowls for any of my T's until they hit the 2-3cm size. I also find that keeping the enclosure relatively small in comparison the the size of the T you can maintain humidity without over soaking it until you get past the delicate stage

      Nice one, cheers. I'm going to do another one with this T soon as I'm about to change its set up to bio active.
