    In my opinion, your Folder Pocket should be just dedicated to your Folder. That way, you don't damage your Folder. And, in an emergency, you don't want anything to get in the way of you drawing it... But, to each their own, Bro... These are awesome SDUEDC Folders that you can trust. Great discussion, Bro! :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)

      That is a valid take, and one I've definitely considered many times. Somehow, I'm never quite willing to give up the space. But it does make a lot of sense!

    Awesome review! I've had my Manix 2xl since 2014 and has been put through a lot but has never failed. I've had two of my Benchmade's springs broke within a year of getting both knives and had it sent for spring replacement. The Manix is a great knife but my Shaman in M4 has been my primary EDC now. Yes it is a little wider and takes more pocket space but I'd choose the Spyderco over Benchmade anyday. Thanks for sharing brother!

      @BellowsBlades  Рік тому +1

      Yeah, I prefer the caged BBL over the axis lock for that reason. Also, the Shaman in M4 is awesome! I tend to prefer Spydercos over Benchmades myself. I have yet to handle a Benchmade that really made me fall in love. But who knows, it may be out there and I just haven't found it yet. The quest continues!

    Excellent review. Your note on the pocket is spot on. Tis a great large knife.

    I just ordered one of these because after trying a couple of others for daily use, I find them to be too small for my hand. It seems hard to balance logistics and usability with these things, either its too small and dinky to do what you need it to, or its too bulky to carry around. The Delica for instance has the opposite problem for me, where its small, light and easy to carry around, but using it for more than a couple of minutes makes my hand cramp up haha

      Yeah, if only everyone had uniform hand sizes! I know what you mean. I really like this knife since I modified the blade shape. It also helps it take up a little less room in the pocket.

    I’ve got a St. Nick’s DLC 4V Manix2 XL. There are other large Spyderco knives that I like to fidget with and carry more often, (e.g. my YoJumbo), but my XL is the one I’d take to the woods. It’s solid af, and the blade should be GTG for nearly any task suitable for a folding knife, (and maybe a few that would break most other folders). Ymmv

    I don't know that your take on S30V is fair. It is still a premium steel and new isn't always better. S35VN increased toughness about 20%, but I can tell you from experience it doesn't hold and edge like S30V and corrosion resistance is no better. S45VN does appear to be an improvement primarily in corrosion resistance. According to Crucible's own website, S45VN has slightly lower edge retention and only a marginal improvement in toughness. S30V is still one of the best balanced steels you can buy for a pocket knife when heat treated right.

    • @BellowsBlades
      @BellowsBlades  Рік тому

      Fair points. S30V is still a solid steel. I just think Spyderco wants too much for it. While I don't think this is the definitive source for blade steel comparison, even Blade HQ doesn't list S30V as "premium." I do like it, I just don't want to pay $150 for it.

    MY gripe about Spyderco blades is their "50/50 choil" Using part of the blade and part of the handle. Putting a "heel" on the blade....which makes sharpening the entire cutting edge hard and use of the cutting edge 'lessened" (you're going to use the front 3/4). Some Spyderco knives DO NOT have the '50/50 choil" e.g. Yojimbo, Spydiechef...Maxix 2 has "less" of a heel and is wider at the heel ...giving you "more steel' to "sharpen down (over time)"...
    I'd probably have the "protruding heel" on the blade removed and a "half choil" put there....THEN knives like the PM2, Para 3 would be near perfect...same holds true for me picking "kitchen knives"...don't want any "thick protrusion" at the heel...

    • @BellowsBlades

      It doesn't bother me, but I can see your point.

      @@BellowsBlades Great knife....might consider picking one up...like the heel on the grip. But it isn't an eDC knife for reasons you mnetioned. It's more a "leave at home" for "everyday tasks" knife.
      there's an "optimal size/weight" for an "EDC folder". this is nOT it even if 5 oz isn't tht heavy actually...it's in combination with all the other EDC items you carry daily ...adds up. Benchmade Bugout,Griptilian or Spyderco "lightweight" sized knives are better...or smaller e.g. Dragonfly Salt w/ serrations...

    I have the 2XL with smooth G10 grips. Love the blade and the quality, but the grips are a fail in the sweat and heat of S. Florida. Too slick.

      I like mine a lot more since I modified it. But you've given me an idea. A set of micarta scales would be really nice. I'd just have to figure out how to get around the flared lanyard hole that seems to keep the current scales permanently affixed. Maybe I'll just pick up a Cru-carta model.

    I just clip my Manix in the waist band, as well as other knives which are smaller. I find a knife in the pocket , is automatically problematic with other items competing for space. The best knife for a pocket is on the small side with the clip removed

    lost this knife recently on a trip in brazil, think i will pick up the recon 1, and a regular manix 2. I have had a para 3 for forever, and a mini benchmade adamas(overpriced junk, massive blade play)
