Paro Taktsang Monastery is renowned as one of Bhutan's top tourist destinations and a cultural symbol of the country. Visiting this monastery offers an unforgettable experience, highlighted by its remarkable location amidst majestic mountains and verdant valleys.
According to local tradition, Padmasambhava, known as Guru Rinpoche, is said to have flown to this spot on the back of a tigress from Singye Dzong. It's believed he consecrated this place to subdue a Tiger demon.
Another legend suggests that in Tibet, a former wife of an emperor chose to follow Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambahva) and transformed into a tigress. She carried him on her back to the current location of Taktsang in Bhutan. In a cave here, Guru Rinpoche meditated and manifested in eight different forms, sanctifying the site. As a result, it became known as the “Tiger's Nest”.
