@SophieSanwogou what you're saying it it was more acceptable to be a sexual predator at the time. Kinda like that Canadian kids gameshow host who would kiss little girls on the lips even if they didn't want him to back in the 80s. Fergie Oliver was his name. The audience laughed when he did it, but there's no denying it was a child predator

@@retroguy9494Bull. Can we please stop rewriting history? You can have your own opinion about his musical talents, but TinyTim was far from a “good and kind” man. Look up the Morton Downey interview where he states that he thinks he “had a right” to HIT his teen wife over adultery, and insisted on no birth control in their marriage due to him being a hardline Catholic, after which his wife has their daughter who he TOTALLY ABANDONED physically and financially. His teen wife who he married at nearly 4 years old said that the only she got out of the marriage was meeting some famous people. Not a standout fantastic individual in Tiny Tim.

@@DoctorShocktor You keep speaking of my 'rewriting history' but it's obvious to ME that you have some pretty tainted opinions about people when it comes to women. I'd really like to know where that comes from? Do you have some personal experience with spousal abuse or were you in some way abused as a child?
When I said he was a 'good man' I was more referring to his charitable works and how he appreciated his fans. In fact, on the night he suffered his fatal heart attack he was in the middle of a song at a benefit concert for which he received no money.
I never heard about him hitting his wife. In fact, after their marriage, the mostly lived apart until they divorced. So I don't know from what credible source you obtained your information on that one.
Regarding his daughter Tulip, you say he abandoned her physically and financially. Yet, he fought for full custody of her and got it from a New York State court. This was reported by credible press sources at the time. So if anyone is 'rewriting history' it's YOU.
Finally, regarding his Catholicism and birth control, what is so bad or wrong about that? I'm Catholic myself and that has always been the position of the Catholic Church. Although Pope Paul VI DID allow the 'rhythm method' for married couples and now quiet recently, while not changing the churches official position, Pope Francis told married couples in poor South American countries that it may be better to consider birth control rather than bring children into a world of poverty and starvation. Besides, Tiny Tim only had the ONE child. Plus his wives knew he was Catholic when they married him. While I am dead set against abortion, I have no problem with birth control even as a Catholic But what is so 'wrong' in your opinion about a married man being against birth control?

I wasn't born yet when the wedding happened; but I heard stories from different viewpoints. I guess Tiny Tim and Miss Vicky's backs were turned to show that their wedding was genuine and not merely publicity. From what I read, Johnny encouraged the wedding to take place on his show. If publicity was intended, I'd think it would be coming more from Johnny and the TV network--they definitely succeeded in their intentions. Thanks for uploading this in full.

Tiny Tim's song to his new bride is a sensitive, lovely vow. There have been all kinds of inventive and unique wedding ceremonies. It's too bad so many people choose to watch this and then criticize the wedding as "bizarre". This was a legitimate wedding with a real minister, and Johnny Carson treated the couple with respect and dignity.

    • @glamgal7106
      @glamgal7106 2 роки тому +11

I thought that because their backs were turned during the ceremony, both Tiny and Vicky showed that they weren't taking their wedding as a publicity stunt opportunity; they were taking it sincerely. You're right, there have been all kinds of unique wedding ceremonies. I guess that because this took place in the late 1960s, people tended to see uniqueness negatively.

@GlamGal 710 In most religions ceremonies, the bride and groom have their backs turned to the crowd. Least in Catholic/Christian ceremonies I've been in or gone to. It's the same reason the guests face the front of the church. The chuch considers it rude to turn the back away from the Alter, crosses or the Jesus on the cross hangs. Which is ironic because that's what the priest/pastor does the entire time they preach or lead a ceremony(has his back to those items)
I don't think it was any more then that. Although the entire wedding was yuckie due to her age.. and his. He always skeeved me out

@@DoctorShocktor Well, if you can manage to cool your anger for a minute or two and put your liberalism on the back burner long enough to read this and not look at it through 21st century social attitudes, I'm going to prove you wrong.
The custom of fathers 'giving away' their daughters in marriage is rooted in law and goes back before there even WAS a United States. There was a time where children, both sons and daughters were legally considered the property of their fathers. In addition, 'arranged marriages' used to be commonplace. In fact, that is still not totally abandoned in certain places and religions. Females, during this time period, and in fact until quite recently, were always considered a kind of 'property.' First of their fathers, then of their husbands and way back even the property of their sons in the case of the death of the husband. Husbands, legally, were responsible for the actions of their wives. So legally, permission was needed from the father for marriage. This ensured that 1) the legal property passed from one to another 2) it ensured a dowry was paid to the brides family 3) that the father's presence at the wedding prevented the groom from changing his mind at the last minuet and 4) to ensure the arranged marriage happened according to plan.
In more modern times, if a bride was under the age of majority which was 21 and then became 18, parental permission was needed to marry and if under 16 permission from a judge was needed. Even today in many states, this is the case. Although some states, including my own which passed the law just 5 years ago, set the marriage age at 18 with no exceptions.
This marriage took place in New York in 1969. The law at that time which was put in place in 1929 was that minors could marry as young as 14 with a judges permission up to 15. At ages 16 and 17, you needed parental permission. So Miss Vicki's father's permission WAS needed so in effect, he DID 'give the bride away' which was, by that time, an outdated phrase but it was still needed not withstanding. Just to let you know, in 2017, the law was changed in New York and 18 is now one of the states to make that the legal age to marry with no exceptions.

HERE IN CHILE (South America) we had a singer and composer just as "histrionic (exaggerated) as Tiny Tim and his name is Raúl "Florcita Motuda" Alarcón (that is: Raúl "Little flower Bulky" Alarcón) who has later been a representative of the republic from Chile (...I don't know how it came to be... (irony)); "Motuda" also resembles the singer of Freddie & The Dreamers (I'm telling you now) in his acting.
Important songs by Florcita Motuda (see live on OTI, Festival de Viña or TV programs): "Pobrecito Mortal", "Final de Siglo", "Brevemente... gente", "Tírale un ajo", etc. (note: he sings in Spanish (our native language).
Greetings from the end of the world.

The weirdest thing is 12:56. she doesn't seem totally willing, he is old and he kisses a 17-year-old girl in front of her husband saying that she is a good kisser. it disgusts me. for Tiny Tim, I don't know what to think about it, I like him a lot as an artist but some things bother me, and this marriage is one of these things, knowing that he abandoned his daughter for years afterwards. And then he started dating young girls again.. I don't want to judge but I don't think that's right. I’m having a hard time figuring out if he was a good person or not, because I know he was very different. Everyone says he was very nice but some people also said that he was very misogynic 😐 (and i think his attraction for young women is not right) maybe men in the 60s were all like that and even worst, I just know he was a good artist and I wish I could learn more about him

@@fanouchkaaa May I assume from your rant and personal belief that this was 'so wrong' that you find the early generations in the Bible equally so? Because you had all those old men who were widowed marrying girls who were between 15 and 17 years old too. Plus being in your 30's is NOT old. Its actually YOUNG. Those men in the Bible were in their 70's and 80's or even more when they remarried. So if you think THAT is wrong, then you think God is wrong. And if you think God is wrong, perhaps you should run for the job and rewrite the Bible like the emperor Constantine did at the first council of Nicaea.

By today's standards, this would be considered to be statutory rape. Hard to believe she was only 17, and he was 37. I vaguely remember this, growing up in the 60's. I'm sure some of the younger viewers think this was a gag, or staged, which I, and the rest of the old folks, can assure you, it most certainly was not. Pretty wild, huh?

Oh PLEASE Karen! She could most certainly marry today at 17 in New York (which is where this took place). She just needs parental permission. And her father DID give her away so he obviously approved!

If a 17 year old marries a man, no matter what age, in her own free will, she has every right to. Calling that rape is sexist and belittling. You can gossip about it all you want, insinuating that she doesn’t know what she is doing and that she soon will leave him, alright, do what sou want. But calling it rape is like saying she is not only making a mistake but is also way too stupid to even be accountable for mistakes.

@@joachimb5721 It's STATUTORY RAPE, and the fact that he was 20 years older than her would weigh heavily in such a case. That was over 50 years ago. Times, perspectives and laws have changed drastically in that time. And yes, LEGALLY, 17, like it or not, is still considered to be a child. Educate yourself before you make such incorrect, uninformed statements. And get some anger management counseling to help control your ranting and outbursts.

@@stellarocquie7957 How can you call that rape. She literally said "yes". And married or not, if she doesn't want to have sex with her husband, she still can say no at any time. If he still proceeds, THAT would be rape, but how do you want to know if that was the case here. And I don't know about U.S. laws (yes, I'm uneducated) but in Europe a 17-year old is not a child and I don't think it is wise to treat them as one. Humans don't switch from "completely not being able to make decisions" to "fully independent, no one decides for me" in one day.
