    I had the 2016 hilux had the dpf problems an Toyota Australia brought the hilux back off me in December 2019 for the price I payed for it new in 2016. An I’ve brought a 2.8 hilux 4*4 an I get better fuel mileage for the old girl then the new one ☝🏼

    True! I recall forests NSW had sludge problems with these motors. They had toyota japan outbto have a look and toyota japan said they were not designed to do what we were doing. Clean oil, change filter, meant a clean pickup :)

      In Costa Rica as well! The dealer accused the owners of not doing oil changes as frequent as 2,500 Km and denied any responsibility for the demise of these engines. I wish we had your consumer protection law in Costa Rica!

    My old work had a hiace with this engine. Never saw it get serviced for 2 years straight doing deliveries all day everyday. At one stage the starter motor died and wasn't replaced for 2 weeks, they just push started it with a forklift every morning then never turned it off till the end of the day. Obviously it seized up, 554,000ish kilometres is definitely getting your moneys worth out of it though.

      Ours too had a tough life, albeit, we still run it! It's a 1999 LH112 with the 2L diesel engine. It's got 450,000 Km. There is no oil consumption whatsoever. Albeit the camshaft is pitted and there is a slight imbalance in the engine whilst at operating temperature. Perhaps yours with a little maintenance by replacing the motor oil and filterers could have lasted 1,000,000 Km like they do usually here in the airport taxi service.

    Hi Andrew great work on the videos very informative. I have a LN 167R 2000 model Hilux running a 5l motor with 260,000 on the clock it has a set of extractors fitted. It is a camper that weighs 2900kg so it’s fully loaded all the time. I have just fitted an EGT probe into the extractors just after where the 4 runners go into one. The EGT are between 450 -500c when cruising on a flat hi way at 100kph in 5th gear and climb up to around 750c when going up hills where the speed drops back to 80kph. I down shift to 4th gear and the EGT only drops to 700c. I have owned the vehicle for 5 years and done some very long trips without any issues. I am concerned that these temps are too high and are possibly having a long term affect on the engine , I would like your thoughts as to if these EGTs are too high. Any information would be greatly appreciated Thanks in advance.

      Why would you do such thing on a 22 or 23:1 compression? If you’re not changing pistons for a shorter stroke you can crack the heads over time. Also low pressure turbo doesn’t help much. Keep it simple and reliable.

    • @BerrimaDiesel
      @BerrimaDiesel  2 роки тому

      Nothings Safe unless its done by a Pro. We consider Power gains before and after, Heat soak, Ambient temps, Fuel peak loadings Vs boost needed etc. So one cant really say an EGT is Safe as a guide.

      Mine had a similar problem..longer start, engine shake that smoothens out as it heated up, black smoke, low pick up and high fuel consumption. Calibrated the pump/ injectors still no good. Turn down fuel enrichment screw but no help. My problem was ultimately found out to be a tiny leak in the fuel primer assembly that caused the pump to not to hold pressure. Changed it and it was back to start on just turning the keys. Had to turn up the enrichment screw again but now no black smoke, good milage and much better response. Just a tiny leak in primer and it took me two years to solve it.🤦

I cant remember which combination of waterpump and clutch fan hub i used. Might have been a 2L waterpump with my original fan and clutch, or maybe it was the 3L fan hub with a 2L fan i honestly cant remember. I end up changing to an electric fan so the clearance isnt an issue now. Im using a fan from a mitsubishi magna/verada v6 with the two lower speeds wired to temp sensors, and the third speed wired to a switch which is handy if you get bogged and need to have it under full load with no road speed for an extended period
