Should have waited for the dowels, not only it alignes the head gasket, but it also alignes the head to the block.
If its slightly off, it can leak combustion gases into coolant.
3L is notorious for that, so have to make sure everything is dead on.

Hi there..its off topic but i would like to ask this. I have a prado 90 (1998)with a 3L. Its getting on in years and here in india this engine never came with any toyota vehicles. Getting rebuild kit was not the problem but who knew enough to rebuild it properly. To my surprise i came across someone selling a rebuild 2Lt attached with g52 gearbox and all things in it..just plonk it in. Will a 2lt be a good replacement for the 3L in overall drivability terms?

If the turbo works good and the fins r in good shape, 2LT, gives more horsepower than a non turbo 3L.
If the fins r little worn down, get a new aftermarket online.
Ones from China and Saudi Arabia r not that expensive.
I got one from Saudi Arabia for $100 USD and 2 yrs later still working good.

mate were they standard piston you put in or were they piston suited to run a turbo and were did you get them thanks

Hey mate, I just got slightly oversized pistons. Pretty sure they are standard apart from that.
I ordered them through the engine shop who did all the work on the block and head to get them ready for a rebuild. As long as you aren’t looking to crank the power right up it will be reliable with a turbo.

Great work mate what kit you running. Do you have to upgrade the fuel srnder unit when turboing.or do diesel not need it

Hey mate, not sure what kit I have. I'll have to look through the videos to find it.
Also fuel sender doesn't need to be upgraded because it has a mechanical fuel pump which draws the fuel all the way from the tank

You should definitely only use a genuine Toyota head gasket and not some cheap aftermarket one

Yeh you could be right. You’ll just have to watch along to see if the head gasket I got is inadequate.
