I learned to drive on that model tractor. My first real task in the field was to follow behind my Dad on his Super 88 while he was spring plowing with the Ford pulling a cultipacker to smash the larger clods before discing. I was eight years old and on top of the world.
From the video it looks like it has a step-up which gives it a hi-lo range to every gear.

I have 3 Ford tractors, a early 44 2N, a 47 8N and a 57 640. There were some subtle differences in the 9N versus 2N, and both had serial numbers starting with "9N". The 8N brought a lot of improvements, including the 4 speed transmission and position control on the hydraulics, and putting both brake pedals on the right side, along with footrests instead of pegs. Brakes on all the N series Fords weren't that great, on any of them.
That is a pretty decent 2N, especially considering the Sherman transmission. I'll hook up my trailer and head that way to load it up and get it away from all of those Olivers.

Those were the most incredible little tractors at the time! When you look at the competition in 1939 when they were introduced Electric start was standard and every other one it was an option and the same with the hydraulic system, The little ford was standard and was an option for everyone else and anyone that has ever changed from a mounted plow to mounted plows on an old Farmall knows that can be a 2 day job if it is just you . When I was a kid Dad had an F 12 with a mounted plow and a corndrill chain that lifted the plow by way of the rear axle and what they called a Bull wheel... I mounted all over the tractor and you would be working all day or two mounting it!! or dismounting it. Of course it had no starter or hydraulics either. Then when you put the cultivators on it was about the same way. Then we got the little Ford and 5 minutes and you had the plows on and 5 minutes the plows were off and the one row cultivator was on! WOW Now if you wanted to do some serious field work and put the 2 row on you had to spread the front axle and turn the rear wheels around to spread them. It did not take all that long. But it was a pain.

The 9N was dads loader tractor for years he replaced it with a 1550 and a1710 Oliver loader, We still have both. Great save!
I put a few hours on a 2N moving snow, grew up on Olivers so had to get used to not having live hydraulics. Other than that, I thought it was a really handy and pleasant to operate little tractor.
My brother just sold his 9N with Sherman overdrive. When he bought it, he had me come over and follow down the road to get an idea of its top speed in 3rd and overdrive. 22 mph with new rear tires.
I'm guessing they would be a bit squirrly at that speed with such a short wheel base.
