- I'm playing a wonderful 1973 Fender Vibrolux Reverb using a 1975 Gibson Flying V, a 1978 Fender Telecaster Deluxe, a 2021 Fender Telecaster Custom shop 1960 Relic and 1980s Fender Stratocaster with 1960s Lipstick pickups. The Vibrolux has 1965 CTS speakers wihich could be found in mid 1960 Super Reverbs and Vibroluxes.
sounds great, my life wouldn't be complete without Fender and Marshall and Gibson!!
Thanks! Same here!
Same here 😊
There’s something magical about a Fender through a Fender! A desert island amp for sure! Great video Johan. Thanks.
Thanks Jeff! Great to hear that!
Great to see the V back! Sounds super precise with that. Love it.
Thanks Eddie! :-)
The Black face ones are way up $$$$. I had a friend who had 2. Sometimes he'd A/B them to run together. Best Sound live ever. Even out doors-smaller festivals and of course clubs you only needed one. That was even back in the day before the P.A. hook ups. Thanks Johan . Great one.
Thanks Buddy, glad you like it!
Oh Lawd, the lipstick Strat!!! So good!
Hell yeah! Only recently discovered lipsticks, they are awesome.
Thanks! Yeah the presences of those pickups is wonderful
the flying v on this Vibrolux amp it sound stellar really.. superb
Great demo Johan. I always loved the vibrolux. Cheers from Hawaii.
Cheers Darrell!
Fantastic amp, plays well with all the guitars! thanks for sharing Johan!
Thanks Mark!
I actually tried my Sound City Concord next to this one at my friend's house and they were similar in some things
This might have to be my desert Island amp, sounds very nice indeed. Great demo as usual 🙂
For those who wonder, that is the correct way to play a Flying V when you're sitting down.
Cheers 😉
That amp sounds spectacular. I've always felt that the 2x10 and 4x10 (and 6x10 - all hail the Super Six!) Fender configurations were the best sounding Black and Silverface amps. They're less likely to sound boomy and murky compared to their 12" brethren.
Thanks! Glad to hear it
As much as I want to advocate any and all of the 10” Fender circuit/configuration magic, a small part of me would rather it remain somewhat of a secret sauce, if only to keep mainstream prices somewhat reasonable 😂
Fantastic sounding amp it might be great for finger style playing 👍
Thanks! Yeah indeed it carries finger picking well.
there's many Fender guitar amps, and there is the Vibrolux 👍
Awesome! A good friend of mine bought a brand new Vibrolux Reverb around that time (to use with his Hagstrom Swede)! He used to get so mad at the Vibrolux because it wasn't loud enough and would kick it on stage. He got rid of it in favor of a solid-state Peavey Standard head (with Automix) and a home-built 4x12 loaded with speakers from Radio Shack (not sure who made those) and then an Ampeg V4 with a pair of EVM 12Ls (in TL806 cabinets) after that.
Amazing. Great amp, great guitars and great playing!
Thanks Michael! Glad to hear it!
That blonde tele neck pickup tone is just sublime. But I love the almost "snare drum" sound you're getting from the room with some of the heavier picking. Wonderful sounds and playing, as always. Cheers!
Thanks Christopher! Cheers!
Great demo..ive wanted one of these for years..i like the 30watts with two 10s for projection versus a deluxe reverb or princeton..also they are not as back breaking as carrying a twin reverb..and will break up if you want em to at a lower volume than a twin..that riff you play with the red pickguard strat was great!!
Thanks, really glad you like it!
All tube amps of this epoch could be characterized as “One of the best amps” 😊
Many of them for sure
Raw, almost savage tone! That bass is like a drum I always prefer your Fender tones ;)
Thanks, great to hear it!
Sounds fantastic Johan. And this Fryette "Thing" is awesome. Bought last week the PS-100 and love it. Greetz. Carsten ✌🏻
I like the Ironman II better though but it is nice also
@@mohamedtlass3842
That isn’t a power amp though, it’s just an attenuator.
The Fryette is a two tube power amp, with an effects loop, with control over tone, as well as the ability to get a small tube amp or preamp, sounding like a real power amp.
If attenuation is all one needs, then the Ironman II is a much more affordable piece of gear.
Those Fryette’s are weird, because they are advertised as keeping one’s pure amp tone, while also having options for changing the high and low end.
@@CorbCorbin I see, in that case Ironman probably does alter the tone less at most settings, as I and most users can attest
Thanks Carsten! Yeah I love the Power Station
Both killer products. I use both
Great sounding amp. Loved the lipstick powered Strat the best I think (and I'm a humbucker guy). God bless and rock on 😎🎸
Thanks! Rock on!
Cool. Thanks for playing the different guitars though the Amp, with I assume all the same settings. 🤷 All the guitars sounded good through it, but I particularly liked the yellow Tele.
Thanks, yeah only volume on guitar and amp was tweaked
Hey Johnan! Been a while since I dropped in. Loved the video! The amp sounds fantastic. I’ve been getting into Fender amps more and more, myself-more than I ever imagined I would. Got a ‘65 Super Reverb clone in the works! Hope you are well! Cheers!
Thanks Eric! I just saw your comment. I’m fine man. I love 4x10 fenders, so let me know how the clone turns out! Cheers!
Amazing.
Thanks!
I Just got a Black 77 Fender Am Vintage Tele Custom with a wide range humbucker looks almost like the deluxe but a single coil in the bridge. want that amp to play thru next.
Yeah! \m/
Cheers!
Nice review! Many years ago I had a '68 Vibrolux Reverb that as far as I knew was completely stock except for new Jensen C10's (my first vintage Fender amp). It was an extremely articulate amp, but at the same time it was full-sounding. I had it for a couple of years before trading it toward a '72 Super Reverb with stock alnico speakers which is even better in my opinion...but obviously larger-sized. I've always viewed the Vibrolux as a scaled-down Super Reverb that's a lot easier to carry around.
Thanks! Yeah Vibrolux and Super Reverb are almost identical circuit wise. VR has smaller trafos though
I Play a 69 SR with stock CTS Alnicos in the band and it is horrible to carry around if you are not tall enough (which I am not). The SR is said to stay much more clean, due to the bigger iron, I run mine at 7 and bass at 4 (this is the actual gain control!) and it shows quite mild breakup.
@@Schlumpf.Meister Yeah, SR's are tall (and heavy) amps making them awkward to carry around. The SR is easily my favorite Fender amp though with the Vibrolux and Deluxe Reverb coming in next. I have the '72 SR and I also have a nearly pristine '65 SR with original CTS speakers. They both sound great, but very different. The blackface is juicier sounding and the '72 is more solid sounding if that makes any sense. I've found that you can't really set the bass much higher than 4-ish on SR's before the tone crushes out.
Cheers, Great video Johan. Could you do a video with that Fryette Power Station on a Fender Champ? I'd be curious how it sounds when scaling up a small 5w class A amp
Thanks Mike! That’s a good idea for a video. I love the Power station. So first chance I get. Cheers!
Great amp. Would love to hear it through an open 1*12 with a Jensen Blackbird 40.
apparently this is the clean tone i was after all along
just gorgeous; even overdriven it's complex and sparkly, as though it's just a more complex and harmonically rich fender clean tone.
Glad to hear that!
My '65 VR has Oxfords
Thanks
That dog 'ill hunt.. right there. 🍺
Cheers!
are we listening to the Fryette tube amplifier, fed with a hiper- squeezed signal out of the fender?
They had oxfords and jensen c10ns. Mine is an all original 67’ with oxfords.
Thanks!
This is great, but you should try also a brown vibrolux! Mark Knopfler amp! I recently got one and is amazing!
Yeah, first chance!
Hello Johan. I am split between buying a 1976 vibrolux reverb and a Princeton reverb 64 handwired( new). I’m afraid the Princeton might break too early but maybe the vibrolux is too loud.
I am also going to assume you own now that 70s deluxe tele?
I do indeed! 😀
Biggest left hand ever!
Great amps but the hum from them can be horrific. Most of the BF reissues need a mod to make them useable.
I have a 67 will never part ways with it.
Nah 5E3 is.
Both have their place
That one is in the same category for sure. It compresses a bit too much though which is super cool but means less clarity
@@JohanSegeborn Duh...i meant to say 5E5 LOL.
