INGREDIENTS
2 tbsp. butter
2 carrots
1 zucchini
1/2 onion
1/2 cup bell peppers
2 cloves garlic
2 egg yolks
6 potatoes
salt and pepper
(Extras: hotdogs, broccoli, shrimp, fish head, hotdog, orange, lobster claw, chicken bone, etc)
For Frying:
3 tbsp. flour
2 eggs
1 cup panko bread crumbs
vegetable oil
Mince your vegetables (carrots, zucchini, onion, bell peppers, garlic) and sauté them in butter on medium high heat until they are soft and cooked through.
In a separate pot, boil water and add your skinned and quartered potatoes for 10-15 minutes. Drain the water and separate the potatoes in a bowl. Mash using a fork. Combine your sautéed vegetables with your mashed potatoes and mix until evenly dispersed throughout.
Mold your croquettes by taking a palmful of the potatoes and veggies mix (after it has cooled down) and form it into an oval and circular shape. You can make any shape you'd like!
Here's where you can really get creative. Mako Mankanshoku puts all kinds of crazy ingredients in her croquettes in Kill La Kill and so can you! We used a hotdog and cut the top into equal sized sections to recreate a calamari look.
When your croquettes are formed, place them in the freezer for 10 minutes so they solidify. Meanwhile, heat a large pot of vegetable oil to 350 degrees F to prepare for frying.
Take your croquettes out from the freezer and coat them with flour, an egg wash, then panko bread crumbs. Once that's done, carefully place them into the pot to fry for 30 seconds to a minute. The time will vary depending on exactly how hot your oil is and how large your croquettes are. Check frequently until you get that perfect shade of brown.
Remove the croquettes from the oil onto a paper towel to remove any excess oil. Serve piping hot with Tonkatsu sauce, ketchup, or whatever you'd like!

Just tried this recipe. Only thing I would add is a mixture of ginger and garlic with sautéing the vegetables to add more flavor. I also added a mix of honey and soy sauce to the mixture and it really helped the flavor.

It's actually a mistake to put fried ingredients on contact with tissue paper when being dried. When they get in contact in the tissue while drying, the oil is evaporated due to the heat of the potato and it becomes soggy even if you double fry.

I totally just made these after seeing this video yesterday! I modified the recipe (no onion, 1 bell pepper, and 4 cloves of garlic) and they turned out great! Super delicious and better than I was expecting. I love Kill La Kill and knew I had to try this when I saw it. Thanks for the awesome recipe!

Just checking about one ingredient that I didn't see mentioned in the process. In the ingredients list, 2 egg yolks are listed, but I don't see them mentioned in the process. Are they to be mixed in with the potatoes after the veggies have finished cooking or did I miss something? Just wondering as I don't think fried eggs are gonna make forming the croquettes into balls easy.

just one tip for whoever is cooking : dont forget that the filling is fully cooked, so the frying part is just to crisp up the outside. if it fries for too long it will break apart (I had a few come out like that ^^')

I don't know if you could do much for "Madagascar", let alone the spin-off series "The Penguins of Madagascar", but I dare you to try making seaweed on a stick, Circus Borscht, and King Julien's Tropical Mood Smoothie (FYI, the lemur king seems to like twice if not three times as many tropical fruit ingredients in his smoothies then the norm, so it might be tricky to get it all in and still get it tasting right, but it includes mango, guava, coconut, kiwi tamarind, peanut butter fruit... which you can substitute with real peanut butter... and just about as many tropical fruits as you can name).

I think I'm going to try and make croquettes with shrimp and green onion, regular chopped onion, and carrots one of these days. I have Panko crumbs, flour, and eggs for the breading, just need the rest and a little extra cooking oil.
