Good radio's, I eventually had one when funds allowed back in the 80's. Worked loads of Europe on Tropo and SpE. Everyone calls these "All mode", same as the Icoms of the era, but there was no AM on them. Surely that makes them "Multimode"...??

10 watts output on the FT480r and 2.5 watts output on the FT290R being the largest difference. Both great radios but the FT290R more focused on the qrp portable market.
