- The 2m SSB Tropo fail! However, undeterred, and because it was a lovely day, I kept trying until I got success - of sorts!!

You’re a dedicated man…
Fair Play… I haven’t even a radio that does 2m SSB.💪🏻
I'm a mad man Dave!! There's not much choice for 2m SSB radios these days unfortunately.
Brilliant video as always. I love your determination. Great to see you and Mo enjoying that fine weather! Oh golly we miss Scotland. -Thomas
Oh, and my wife, Heather, is known to collect stones and rocks during our hikes and travels! Sometimes, after a long road trip, I find them under the passenger seat in the car!
@@ThomasK4SWL Mo had a couple of years collecting enough Quartz to border our drive. Those ones were the biggest!
Thanks Thomas. I don't know why I didn't post this at the time. We did it in August 2022.
Cheers, Fraser MM0EFI
Fantastic work Fraser and Mo. Glad you made the contacts i am yet to try 2m SSB.
Great job.

Thanks 👍
You need to give it a go Motters. Very rewarding!
Beautifully filmed, Fraser! Thanks for showing us 2m SSB that reminds me to give it another try as well.

Cheers Stephan, It is worth a try now and again. Helps if you have a few folk willing to help too!

@@theradiorover Indeed, HF is so much easier, especially when you're surrounded by mountains. But anyways, I wouldn't carry the needed stuff too far 😓
I remember a HUGE opening around Thanksgiving (U.S.), 1988. I made 37 2 meter SSB contacts across 17 states. The radio was an Icom 211 which I think ran only about 10 watts. Antennas were 2X 11 element Cushcraft beams co-phased. One vertical, one horizontal. Antennas were only up about 35 feet, through about 70 feet of Belden 9913. Location was the flat plains of the midwest, USA. Nice video!
Superb! I'm never at the right place at the right time for these openings.
Nice vid, it has been so long since I have done 2m ssb.
I still have a 13b2 that I used to take up the cairn o mount 😇
Well done 🙏
Cheers. I've done 2m FM from the Cairn, but I need to give ssb a go. Probably need to wait until there is a bit of tropo.

Always surprises with our great hobby. Never give up is so true.
Thank you for another superb film.

I really enjoyed that day. Of course, it helps when your wife is up for it too!
@@theradiorover yes a willing volunteer is very welcome.
Looks like middle England is free of rain today. I hope you’re doing fine where you are. Lots of news coverage of flooding in Scotland
M0DSK
@richardpowell723 all good here. Very wet, however the really heavy rain all fell on the hills to the south, the Angus hills and drained into the North and South Esk rivers. It is carnage down there.

What a great effort and you put me to shame, I tried and tried and bagged about 3 contacts over 4 hours and I’d have given up earlier if the weather had been poor. I refused the temptation to use FM as 2M ssb is possibly my all time favourite band. Antennas at home are down due to an impending house sale so the great outdoors is my only alternative. 73 Mike
Hi Mike, Outdoors is my only radio really. I do have a 6m beam at home, as well as an HF wire. They see little use.
There aren't too many portable radios that do 2m SSB these data, which is a shame.

Excellent video and well done qualifying the SOTA on 2m SSB. The weather was certainly kind to you and how nice was the early morning Golden Hour? Good to see that it's not just Natalie and I that have some souvenirs from our activations in the garden 😂😂😂All the best to you both. 73 Chris M0RSF
HaHa! Well if Natalie and Mo get a few rocks and we get to play SOTA, then all is good Chris. 👍
👍Good stuff. Never give up 🙂. XYL putting rocks in your rucksack 🤣.
She's a nightmare Steve! Keeps her happy though. 😊
Fabulous effort by all
Thanks Tim 😊
Very inspirational well done
Thanks! Had a lot of fun. Just four QSO's , but so rewarding.
Cheers, Fraser MM0EFI
Great video Fraser very enjoyable thank brother
Thanks Mate! Up at 4am for that one. Must be mad 😂
Very well done👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 2m SSB is great, but it’s like pulling horse teeth😊😊😊
Yup! Just four QSO's but felt like I'd won the World Cup. 😀
Thats just like my xyl! However you love her dearly ❤
Yes I do. Mo never gives up either! She has had three spinal Ops and still wants to get out and climb the hills. 🙂
I brought a wee bit of quartz home with me from Ben Lomond last month 😂
I would have looked for some on Ben Nevis last week, but there was 6" of fresh snow from 3000' upwards!
Oan yersel Mo. 😅😅
😂😂 Mo is a chancer mate! I honestly didn't suspect she'd filled the linch box with boulders!
Tim G5TM headed me in your direction
Thanks for coming over. Hope you enjoy my channel. 😀
