    This war is a clear example of what happens to a huge state when it moves away from technology and innovation, and because of the political disagreements of the officers in its army.

      Well to be compeletely honest; Abdulhamid the Second actually left a way bigger army in the balkans I think it numbered around 750.000. And the people who overthrown him actually demobilized a lot of the army and fired lots of people who were opposing them. Plus, two more things: They sent a good portion of the remaining army and its supplies to yemen for the ongoing rebellion and they made peace between the balkan countries by uniting their church when Abdulhamid the Second actually used that against them so that they couldn't unite and attack the empire. So the young turk government did EVERYTHİNG wrong for the balkan wars

    The Balkan states took great advantage of the Ottoman weakness (especially after the Italo-Turkish war) and the results for them were enormous. It’s crazy to think the Bulgarians could have actually taken Constantinople had the Ottomans lost the battle there in 1912! Unfortunately the persecution of Ottoman Muslims during their contraction and retreat from the area really blew up during and after the Balkan wars.

    The First Balkan War significantly changed the newly constitutional Turkish Empire by removing diversity, Christians, Jews (mainly at Salonika), and Europeans from its population and from representation in its new parliament. This is a historic observation, not a criticism or an endorsement (except of course, independent nation states, provided they respect liberty and minorities, are good; empires not so good). The effects of this change were serious.

    • @szymonpajak4102
      @szymonpajak4102 Рік тому +5

      Yeah, originally Ottoman epire needed to take into consideration opinions of Arabs, Greeks, Jews, Christians, Armenians and amny other nations, etnicities and religions in making work. You can be anyone and going up in position wwas just toaccept Isla 9which was kinda innovative at their age). with rising of Young turks, you cut opinions to just Turks and their Europeans states. Then, Balkan Wars, cut off fro nay of Greeks, jews, making sound of turkish ore and more pronouced, so they had more influence. In the end, unopposed position of Turk (Sultan was opposing, but Coud'd'etate and threats to his family) made this very ethnocentric and destructive mix, resulting in ay genocides.

      Russia supplied us all, i think Greece was also supplied by Britain and perhaps Bulgarians received training from germans, due to German kings, but Ottomans also had german training, key stuff in this war was the Greek navy, that blocked Ottomans from reinforcing balkans, by navally blockading them
      Also this wouldn't happen, if other great powers didn't allow it, i think that most of the great powers stated that they allow conflict, but in case of Ottoman win, they would enforce white peace...

      Well basically all of them have been independent since 1877/78 and their economy was on a rise ever since. They modernized their army quickly. Serbia bought its weapons from AH and France. For example, they bought large cannons which helped a lot in sieging fortresses such as Shkoder where they helped Montenegrins and Adrianople where they helped Bulgarians. They also built modernized railways in 1880s connecting it to Constantinople and Bulgaria. Etc.

      @@MicroHamsy When the war started the Ottomans had 295 thousands men in their army in Thracia and Macedonia according to official data. 180 thousands in Macedonia and Epirus, and 115 thousands in Thrace. There also were around 5 thousands of Turkish soldiers on the Aegean islands - mostly on Chios and Lesbos.
      After the start of war Turks had big problem to bring soldiers to the fronts, because Greek navy controlled the sea, and Bulgaria controlled the roads and the railway lines.
      This is why no Turkish army never came to aid their powers in Macedonia, Albania or islands. The only army that was strengthened by Turks was that of Thrace. It was strengthened by railways, that had limited potential of transporting men. Of course when the frontline came to Chatalja near Constantinople the transportation became easier.
      Anyhow, according to most trustworthy historians of the Balkan wars, the total number of Turkish soldiers on the Thracian front during all 7 months of war was around 450 thousand men.
      It is truth that after after the start of war Turks started more energetically mobilisation in Albania and Epirus (in Macedonia they lost time to do so). But even like that they only gathered about 1 or 2 divithions (20-30 thousand men).
      Also it have to be mentioned, that except the regular army in Macedonia, Kosovo and Albania acted Albanian so called “irregulars”, which was not an army soldiers really, but many gang bands with self weapons. It is really hard to count how many they were, but in some battles there were fighting up to 4-5 thousands Albanian “irregulars” against Serbs and Greeks.

      Political instability within regions like Ottoman Macedonia, as well as the recent loss of Ottoman Tripolitania (modern Libya) from Italy during the 1912 Italo-Turkish war, gave the initiave for the Christian Balkan countries to capitalize on the weakness of the Ottoman Empire and drive away the Turks from the Balkan peninsula.

    It’s worth noting that Gr eece was competitive at that time and there were arguments for which land needed to be conquered first
    Greece ended up capturing Macedonia and its capital preventing the Bulgarians from doing so which can be traced back to the Macedonian war against Greece and Bulgaria which wasn’t official but elite units were sent to force citizenship and stop the enemy form doing so
    In that war Greece had a great success
