At 0:37, you can see above the Byzantine Empire the flag of the Gepids, and the reason I know this is because I've spend the last hour trying to find it. I began by reverse searching a rough approximation of the flag I made in MSPaint, and got back nothing. Next, I went through several lists of extinct European state flags hoping to eventually find it, but again, nothing. I then tried to find the flag of the larger state they were invaded by later in the video, the black horse archer on a green background, and after parsing through several websites about horse racing I found its origin: it's the flag of the Avar Khaganate. I then tried to find a list of the states the Avar Khaganate invaded/conflicts it was involved in, which at first didn't get me anywhere until one link said hostilities between them and the Byzantines started in the year 557. So, I tried finding a map of Europe in the year 557 and found nothing, and even if I had old maps tend to suck anyway. I tried looking through the history of the Pannonian Avars, and while the Gepids were included in the Wikipedia article, because I'm a fucking moron I didn't notice them and assumed there was nothing useful on the page. Another source quoting a book mentioned the Avars settled near the Danube after about a decade of fighting, but didn't mention WHO they fought with. So, I changed strategy and tried to find a list of the states which were historically situated around the Danube, and I found a map of the Kingdom of the Gepids, which also included on its border with the Byzantines the city of Sirmium, and the reason why this matters is because by the point I had seen Sirmium mentioned like, five separate times, so I instantly knew I was on the right track. FInally, I searched up flags of the Gepids, and found it. Was it worth it? Not really. The funny part is this: I found a Reddit post with no comments only a few images below the Gepid flag asking whether it was historically accurate, and it was a screenshot of this very video, and of this exact flag. So, now the question was, is this flag even real? The only place I've found it is on the wiki page for Freeciv, which is a computer game for the 90'. Trying to reverse image search it returns the London Whitechapel Station for some reason, a bunch of unrelated images, and the link to the SAME FANDOM WIKI PAGE. More than 6 empires of Turkic origin ruled Balkans Hunnic Empire, Avar Khaganate, First Bulgarian Empire, Arpad dynasty of Hungary, Cuman dynasties of Second Bulgarian Empire and finally the OTTOMAN EMPIRE :-)
A scientific expedition in search or the origin of Bulgarians is close to finding a proof of the Indo-European origin of proto-Bulgarians. Scientists have visited a number of countries in Asia where thorough studies on culture and genetics were conducted. The results were much different than the widely accepted notion that modern Bulgarians are of predominantly Slavic origin. After the democratic changes in the beginning of the 90s scientists started looking for more facts related to the true origin of Bulgarians. “A people could change the name of its country, its culture, and religion but cannot change its genes,” one of the participants in the scientific expedition of 2008 Associate professor Alexander Iliev says. He is a film director and has created a number of documentaries on the discoveries of the Bulgarian scientists. According to him it is too early to make firm conclusions about the origin of Bulgarians. We have a lot of work to do and just one generation of scientists won’t be enough, he says. Studies of the culture, language, music and customs in Pamir continue and scientists are often amazed by the number of similarities between Bulgarians and some ethnic groups in the region. “What recent studies show is that most probably we are of Pamirian origin. We have similarities with the Ishkashim ethnic group, the Kalash, and others. We are talking here about true anthropologic similarities. There are many similarities in customs and traditions too, but of course there are differences, as Bulgarians left Central Asia some 2,000 years ago.”
Man, I wanna see you do the history of the region from like, the year 200 bc. This is way too well made. There are no complaints. A very very specific and relatively legendary set of dutchies belonging to the First Bulgarian Empire could have been depicted. Namely, the Dutchy of Gelou (AKA Transylvania), Glad (AKA Banat) and Menumorut (AKA Crisana). Now, these are not obligatory to be included, since they were simply lands of Bulgarian and Romanian warlords, and many Hungarians deny their existence. Your simplified depiction of this history is fantastic. As a romanian history nerd, I know leadership and vassalage changed more than this video depicts, but showcasing that in the video, and the brief months of foreing rule, independence, or varying vassalship would be totally autism inducing. I love this for what it is. Accurate and simple!

edit: ayo wth? why is there drama here? like i just wanted to comment about this mega popular battle that should never be forgotten and there this person who goes and types a normal comment like ``awful battle, byzantine empire > ottomans´´ it isnt meant to be toxic and there this one guy who goes like``OH ME GONNA CRATE SOME EPIC DRAMA HEHE HEHE´´ like bro whats the matter with you? is the person who caused all of this is 5 or something? also if you see somebody like that please just ignore them there just here for attention and they say a mean comment so there prob just making you wanna reply to them so they could be triking you into making drama so the moral is: never fall for people who type negative things and make you wanna reply to them and then you make drama when you diddnt want to
also the guy moon lord he isnt crying about something or being toxic so dont target him he isnt being rude he's just commenting.
edit 2: TYSM FOR 14 LIKES!! ive nerver accomplished this and i want to thank you all who made my day and liked this comment!
Yeah🤣
awful battle, byzantine empire > ottomans
@@Crimsrn hell no always Ottoman beated byzante in every way cry about it kid
@@Xaemera ok 1. i'm not a kid, 2. i'm not crying about something that happened centuries ago 3. yes they beat them but by that point byzantium was a city state wow so heroic
As the video shows, ottomans wouldn't beat Byzantium unless they had numerous fight before and were weakened, on top of that byzantine empire lasted for about double the time
very nice great video
The looks of Türkiye and Greece in the cover picture of the video are very sweet. 😃
Soy el unico español aqui? xd PD: El video estuvo increible! :O
Na, ya somos dos. ;)
no soy español, pero hablo español
You may add years progression and a legend of flags to know every state at each time. This would make the video more interesting.

Incredible, i like how you went deep down in history 👍 great video 👍
It so well done!
There was a small war between greece and Bulgaria at 1925 it would be cool if you included that but nevertheless great video and very accurate
It`s not war. It is more like incident. Because of one dog and one greek captain who was trying to return the dog to the Greek camp and did not realize that he had entered the Bulgarian territories and because of a misunderstanding they shot him. This incident is known as the Petrich incident.
@@alexivanov1711 the Greeks wanted to start a war regardless of the excuse, Bulgaria did not, and UN steped in for first and last time in history to properly do it's intended job.

@@Fps-cb6ho I thought this bullshit was over, it's interesting that there are still poor people who believe this in your country.

What a GREAT VIDEO Good idea Keep it up!
Very well done just missing the dates for relatively new people it's an important detail.
The amount of wars that kicked off in the ancient times were insane.
Maybe you should do a comparison for like, amount of wars per century?
It's really funny that Greek balls and Turkish balls always look at each other while the others are fighting :D
