He made playing amogus his memetic ritual because it was popular and was vaguely close to his previous sphere of envy, but immediately lost his will to live by dealing with the playerbase.
It's so incredibly agitating when everyone makes among us memes and says "sus" every few minutes. I've played the game once on my phone before, and for 8 minutes. I uninstalled it because of how incredibly boring and shallow the game was. I just don't get why people like the game, at all. This SCP article belongs in the trash. I'm pretty sure everyone who upvoted the article is below the age of 12.
I like how this article is about a god trying to combat his fade to obscurity at the mercy of the popularity of a fad. It’s made better by the fact that it’s main criticism is that it won’t age well because it’s overall premise seems like an attempt to gain popularity by being an Among Us meme.
I'm not going to lie, I thought this was a -j at first but I was pleasantly surprised. Like, an ancient god that keeps getting revived against his will in ways that just embarrass and frustrate him shows some potential. Like the brutal murders and paranoia is just side effects of his existence that fade as he dies again. He's not malicious, just incredibly pissed and depressed. It could use a bit more to really be good, lean into the question of why the hell a forgotten Greek god keeps coming back, against his will. Have a couple other, older appearances of the SCP, maybe with something else that'd be dumb for him like as a message spelled out in pet rocks, "Why must I live again?" and then the factory workers all killed each other to try and be the only one with the rocks. Just some stuff like that and it goes from being something wierd popping up in a popular game to a reoccurring anomaly with popular trends. I know I sound like an idiot but this one honestly has some potential.
I think he doesn’t appear in any random fad, but instead is “summoned” by concentrations of paranoia. Among Us becoming massively popular was basically a bonfire of lowkey paranoia. A better historical example would be the Red Scare, or even the Salem Witch Trials.
@@UGNAvalon Both of which had ended up in the killing or tossing out of people, though the Red Scare was one man's paranoia, shouted out, and amplifying others' paranoia, if I had to recall it. Salem Witch Trials were mostly to figure out who was a witch, but all cases, they were to kill someone - innocent or "guilty."
@@edward9487 even 5167 itself mentions ppl getting homicidal in the beginning, before paranoid delusion symptoms eventually lasted only a couple weeks in the affected. it would make sense that paranoia from decades/centuries past would be more violent.

I find this scp to be actually really cool, even as a meme, An ancient god who is desperately clinging onto this world for relevance. @Fax Machine Nah, this fits surprisingly well.

I find this scp to be actually really cool, even as a meme,
An ancient god who is desperately clinging onto this world for relevance. Only to realise that inevitability doesn't care for whether you are a God or not. As he slowly decays, longing for the pain and misery to end.
Even becoming so detached and flooded with nihilism that he takes an ingame question as a personal one about him.
@Fax Machine Nah, this fits surprisingly well. This was the most popular game at the time, so it'd make sense why he'd clung to it since at the beginning, he seems to be trying to gain relevance again, but now that it's popularity and relevance is dying, he just wants it to end quickly and die along with it.

HP Lovecraft as a game developer: Your myth formed over a thousand generations of blood and tears shall be recreated as a means of momentary entertainment for teenagers already apathetic to life who can’t begin to understand what you represented to their ancestors, nor care to so long as they can use your artists representation to slay a randomly appointed opponent in mock combat that fails to stir even a momentary emotion, in any way.
SCP-5167: ... let me stay dead, I’m tired.
HP Lovecraft: No, I got bills.
HP Lovecraft: gotta make those greens for the missus and the cat
Wait what
No is there an among us SCP
this isn’t even a -J SCP
WHAT
Edit: okay now I’m gonna go into Among Us games with Phthonus as my name and see if I can scare anybody
Yeah I just checked it’s real
Right? I was surprised too. There is vote QC but its been borked for awhile. But it's not like we'll run out of numbers anytime soon.
Go for it
How is it not “j”?
@@toasteduranium same reason that scp-4252 is -J; there isn't any rules about -J scp (or none that are enforced ?) it's up to the author
tbh they should just remove the -J nomination. It make no sens that articles like scp-___-J are considered "too silly to be real SCPs" but stuff like this scp or 4252 are perfectly fine.
either have a -J and use/enforce it or don't
I hate this so much, even more that it's actually a good SCP. That last part makes it awesome.
This will age worse than the Minecraft SCP. The only good part about this SCP article is the diction. It's too short to provide anything interesting and is just a massive reddit moment.
@@Doomguy617 that’s literally the whole point
Imagine a foundation member scrolling through reddit and seeing a "when the imposter is sus" meme
Even better, imagine a relatively new foundation researcher looking through the files and just seeing one of them labeled "When the imposter is sus"
I love how you can hear people voting in the background during Phthonus' speech.
While I feel like this should clearly be a joke, man does this God dude feel relatable. That kinda speech he gives at the end is very much so observant of modern culture and civilisation. Surprised me quite a bit.

well, how would you react if you were a god that have been worshiiped for eons and then you've been forgotten and then come back and see how mankind have changed. .
I feel the pain that dude have felt.
@@brotheralaric7177 I generally feel that pain everyday lol. Maybe not to that extent but it dies make me weary and depressed
He literally does have three sentences on Wikipedia.
What?
what are the sentences? it's been bothering me
Here you go “In Greek mythology, Phthonos /ˈθoʊnəs/ (Greek: Φθόνος, Phthónos) was the personification of jealousy and envy, most prominently in matters of romance. In Nonnus's Dionysiaca, he is by proxy the cause of Semele's death, having informed Hera of Zeus's affair with the princess. He also appears in Callimachus's Hymn to Apollo, goading the god into an argument.”
kids in a decade when among us has died down and scp still stands, will find this, and find among us, and think it's the scariest game ever. it'll be herobrine all over again.
Scp:
“We’re re-writing 682 cuz he’s boring and bad”
Also scp: among us scp sure cool
You're not wrong.
Of course you'd be here
They're rewriting 682?
@@umcaraqualquer9555 people started calling 682 a Gary Stu. Not even kidding
But 682 is a Gary Stu, even Chuck the biggest 682 fan is admitting it
Scp : deep depressing shit
yourmom: lmao red sus vote red
Gonna be honest, while this entire article is a shitpost, the ending dialogue hits kind of different.
Doesn't make it good tho.
It was kinda sad tbh, poor god is suffering
@@bdletoast09 I disagree. It's a fairly solid meditation on how Among Us will eventually end up just like Phthonus. Eventually something as big as a god will inevitable become barely notable. I can't see how anyone can see that as anything short of fascinating.
@@Axarch Yeah, I honestly doubt so much thought went into that. In my humble opinion, it was just "lol amogus"
@@bdletoast09 You're real fun at parties, aren't yeh?
I love the idea of a forgotten god becoming suicidal from spending too much time in among us.

Let's face it.
This was bound to become a SCP at one point, lol
No, it should have been a joke SCP but the writer was probably one of the entry board members so they got special treatment. The SCP wiki has gone down hill so much.
@@DrewWestPress No, it got on because the story and concept are interesting and its well written.
I do love the sounds of voting in the background as 5167 does his diatribe.
