Father, I know many people who rarely go to communion simply because they don't feel 'worthy'. But I think it's important to mention how none of us are worthy and that Holy Communion can help strengthen us and rids us of venial sins and that is it is important to go to confession and communion often . My concern with your message is that people will become scrupulous and only receive once a year when they HAVE to. I like your point about never receiving Him unworthily in mortal sin, but maybe make the point that you must and that is it is good to go to confession and communion often so that you can be more sure to receive Him worthily.

The devotion to the Sacred Heart (also known as the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Sacratissimum Cor Iesu in Latin) is one of the most widely practiced and well-known Roman Catholic devotions, taking Jesus Christ′s physical heart as the representation of his divine love for humanity.
This devotion is predominantly used in the Roman Catholic Church and in a modified way among some high-church Anglicans, Lutherans and Eastern Catholics.
The devotion is especially concerned with what the Church deems to be the longsuffering love and compassion of the heart of Christ towards humanity.
The popularization of this devotion in its modern form is derived from a Roman Catholic nun from France, Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque, who said she learned the devotion from Jesus during a series of apparitions to her between 1673 and 1675, and later, in the 19th century, from the mystical revelations of another Roman Catholic nun in Portugal, Blessed Mary of the Divine Heart, a religious of the Good Shepherd, who requested in the name of Christ that Pope Leo XIII consecrate the entire world to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Predecessors to the modern devotion arose unmistakably in the Middle Ages in various facets of Catholic mysticism, particularly with Saint Gertrude the Great.

Why a devotion to his heart and not to the rest of the body? Wasn't the rest of his body as important?

    • @guardianofthegrail3261

I think it has to do with the fact that His heart was pierced by the spear on the cross. I’m not Catholic but that’s my assumption of why it is for the heart.

It was pierced to make sure he was dead. But he died before that. His lung (at least one of them) was pierced too as well as other muscles and organs by the spear.

Thank you Alex. But this reading shows a mix of philosophy entangled with theology. Justin the martyr and pope Gregory the great had a special devotion to the heart quite early on. Margret Mary had a personal revelation one is free to believe and is by no means binding.
Personally, I get a strong feeling of people with good intentions going too deep into symbolism.

Because Christ's heart is embletic of his love. It reveals to us the mystery of the Incarnation and is a challenge for us to spiritually open our hearts to suffer for Him and to imitate the profound love Christ's own heart had for us. More than anything, Christ's heart is a tangible sign of God's love towards us.

Why only 3 hail marys for the priest? Say 6 and he will bless you twice. Say 10 and he will buy you dinner. What nonsense. And the picture of a human heart with a crown of thorns around it and a cross sticking out of the aorta is truly gross and, in a religious sense, demonic.

    • @gray_mara

3 Hail Marys, one in honour of each person of the Holy Trinity. It's not a transaction to receive a blessing, it's to pray for a person. Why not 6 or 10? Because the Church knows human nature. If you ask a person to do a small thing, they will do the small thing, even many small things. Ask a person to do a big thing and they will find excuses. And life itself is made up of small things.
As to the accusation that the image of Our Lord's sacred heart is demonic, it's a symbol. Like a Valentine's Day card with a heart on it, except His heart means so much more than ours. Jesus Himself spoke about His heart. If we love Him, we will not find His heart gross. This is a wonderful sermon. You would find much beauty in His heart if you would listen to the video.

@@gray_mara Nothing in the Bible about praying to Mary. Nothing in the Bible about praying to a human organ. I pray to Jesus who sits at the right hand of the Father in Heaven, not a body part.

@@johnbrowne3950 - nothing in the Bible about using the internet so why are you? the Bible was NEVER meant to be the A-Z compendium of the Faith, that's a lie invented by the heretic Martin Luther. we do not pray to the All Holy Virgin (and the saints) in the way we pray and worship the Life Giving Trinity, the One God. if we sinners can and should pray for each other then how much better than the Most Holy Mother of God should intercede for us? and how fitting that we should humbly beg the Queen of Heaven, the Mother of the Lord to pray for us. the book of Revelations clearly shows the angels offering up our prayers and following this we should ask the Blessed Saints to intercede.

we don't believe that the number of set prayers equates to things in that childish way, you know that and make yourself seem ridiculous....what nonsense. the image you describe represents the human and Sacred Heart of Jesus which was pierced with a lance and symbolises the Passion undergone by Our Blessed Lord for our sake. ***Viva Christo Rey!!!*** **Ave Maria!!!**
