Just to let you know DEJANA is who outfitted the truck its on the side of the Dump we dealt with them alot when i was still at the dealer. Im actually surprised one made it all the way out to you since they are North East Based Upfitter mostly MD,PA,NY,NJ. Roush just wrote the annual DOT on it once it arrived back from the upfiitters.
Mr Truck I know that you are looking at this fine truck but I think that you have a couple of facts mixed up. From what I can see in the video the truck body was installed & purchased at a Dejana facility. It was at Roush probably to be prepped for conversion to Propane/Natural Gas. Also most city & town municipalities by the gas jobs for practicality. Initial cost & the difference in gas to diesel costs. Plus they don't keep them forever makes the gasser a smart purchase.
The build label in the drivers door is all Roush. So they are the body builder responsible for everything beyond the C&C. I agree there is a place for gas engine Class 6 & 7. Ford is the only manufacture that has gas in those classes.
On the left side of the dump body there is a tag from Dejana. They are truck upfitters and would have installed the body. (that was made by Rugby). Roush may have taken responsibility for it all. Roush may gotten the whole job and subcontracted the body to Dejana.
Cool dump truck, hope you're having fun with it! I am looking forward to more videos of this truck. I have watched you with the TFL crew for years but just subscribed to you.
I'm going to buy one very soon. Getting an extended cab with 6.7 diesel, 270HP and fit it with a Switch-and-go sistem for dumpsters. Do you have a review on the diesel engine?
It does in some cases. Options are good. Diesel fuel can get higher than gas, oil changes cost more, at least $8-9000 higher cost. It still takes thousands of miles on a diesel truck to pay for the extra cost with fuel savings.
Cost. These things tend to eat a hot supper so if you're going to be running it hard it's cheaper to use a gas motor. Even if it blows up and you buy another gas motor it's still cheaper than a turbo diesel.
9 grand doesn't seem like a lot in the grand scheme of things, but if you were buying several of these for a fleet it adds up to some serious money fairly quickly. They could buy 12 gas trucks or 10 diesels....
Over half of them Ford sells are gas. Lots going to rental trucks and box truck applications. It wasn't that long ago that gas engines in these sized trucks were very popular, many being odd displacement gas truck specific engines. A lot of fleets have went back to gas because of reliability and service issues associated with diesels. MPG difference in a truck this size is not as large as most think it is.
Maintenance and repair costs on modern emissions diesels are astronomical. When this V10 wears out at 200K miles, you can replace it for less than a set of injectors on a diesel, or way less than the cost of replacing the DEF of DPF system.
Ill say this, gas engines are good for only a certain amount of hauling weight, but diesel will still win reguardless. I saw a gasser pothole truck and boy was that puppy struggling with the weight.
Always wondered why they called the tall rectangular mirrors "west coast mirrors "? Maybe because of the mountainous terrain out west, need a tall mirror?
The west coast mirrors had a support arm on top and bottom. It created a blind spot. So the single lower arm is safer for visibility and the newer ones don't shake as the first years did either on a semi or pickup.
I wonder when that term originated. I was a mechanic in the Army and we called the mirrors on the old M35A2 "duce and a half" trucks the West Coast mirrors back in the 80s.
Compared to the 1-ton trucks you've tested recently, that 650 sounds waaayyy underpowered! :( The other guys have Big Green, now you have BIG ORANGE! :)
Well GM was making headway with their 8.1 V-8 gas with the Allison tranny in Class C motorhomes. Then the recession, the bankruptcy and the engine and 4500/5500 went away. Diesel prices rose above gas prices and Ford cleaned up with the 6.8L v-10 gas with no competition. So the last one standing can make money.
I understand they have a new large V8 in the works to replace the V-10. It is designed specifically for heavy duty applications. The old 6.8 is a solid engine, but it has been around for 20 years so it is time for something new.
Diesels do indeed usually have more torque but they almost always have the advantage of a turbo. A turbo on a 6.8 would make very impressive numbers and make much better horsepower numbers with less boost. Just a measly 10 psi on that engine would give it way over the 400 hp ish horsepower ratings of current diesels and similar torque. The real power of the diesel is low down torque. I think diesel is still better than for trucks of this category though but the 6.8 could be made in to a very solid performer
I would think is electric driven hydrualic for the dump same as the typical dump trailer . since it would be cheaper and being automatic does the transmission even come with a pto?
we have a heavy duty dump trailer 28gpm pump run by electric start 13 hp Honda engine . that way it can be used behind farm tractors or skidders making logging and field work roads , still enjoy your videos
Cool. Hope you get a chance to test out one with the 6.7 and see can it tow up to 50000. Curious how much it weighs though? I'm guessing that dump setup is a couple thousand pounds by it itself.
Yes, I will look at the pump. I'll assume for now an electric motor powering the hydraulic pump. Which is unusual for a truck this size not to use PTO. The advantage would be to be able to dump without turning on the engine. But the switch works without using the ignition key
MrTruckTV ... really??? You assume for now that it is an electric motor driving the hydraulic pump (were you pressing the assumed electric button?) or are you assuming that Ford came up with a magic way to put an electric motor on the pto so the pto can turn the pump when the engine isn't running? Looks like someone needs to spend a wee bit time with a manual before the next video.
For crying out loud. I haven't driven a F650 in 15 years. I finally get one and wanted to do a quick video to say it arrived. I had the truck 15 minutes. This weekend I'll spend a few hours in it and figure it all out. I'll be using it for the next two weeks. Give me a break. This was not the full review, just announcement that I received it and Kelsey and me will drive it down the road the weekend. I'll spread gravel on my lot for the trailers, I'll hook a trailer to it and haul something.
MrTruckTV wow...so sensitive... I just ASSUMED that you knew that already, having researched it all before buying it, you being MrTruck and all. It is a good piece of equipment.
What did I buy? This is a media truck that I requested a year ago. Ford owns it, I'm just reviewing it for a few weeks. Yes I'm sensitive, I do have feelings. Don't know why I'm getting beat up over the bed hydraulics, just got the truck. You see more details soon
Am I missing something here? The title says "First Drive" yet there is no "driving" involved. He doesn't even start the engine. What gives? Click bait.
It was my first drive, as an intro. The video up today shows Kelsey driving it. The 3rd video will show me towing a trailer and getting a loads of recycled asphalt and then hauling trash to the dump.

Thanks, 2nd video coming this week.
The air ride seats would be pretty sweet.
But Mr Kent there was no driving haha. It looked like there was two tanks on there, or at least I thought I saw two pumps in one of those shots.
Driving comes next, I was so excited I just wanted to sit in it
I'm going to buy one very soon. Getting an extended cab with 6.7 diesel, 270HP and fit it with a Switch-and-go sistem for dumpsters. Do you have a review on the diesel engine?
Does it make sense to have a gas engine on these large trucks?
It does in some cases. Options are good. Diesel fuel can get higher than gas, oil changes cost more, at least $8-9000 higher cost. It still takes thousands of miles on a diesel truck to pay for the extra cost with fuel savings.

The back seat passenger operates the tailgate lever?

Hi Mr. Truck. Great job on your videos. Are you going to do more videos with this truck?
Thanks, yes we have much work planned on the dump truck
Compared to the 1-ton trucks you've tested recently, that 650 sounds waaayyy underpowered! :(
The other guys have Big Green, now you have BIG ORANGE! :)
With a 6.50 axle ration, power shouldn't be a problem. But I will load it several times with gravel or recycled asphalt and find out.
Sounds good, just getting used to the "torque wars" with the diesel engines. The V-10 doesn't sound very powerful any more.
Well GM was making headway with their 8.1 V-8 gas with the Allison tranny in Class C motorhomes. Then the recession, the bankruptcy and the engine and 4500/5500 went away. That coolant reservoir under the hood holds more fluid than the gas tank on my wifes 2006 Scion!!! Ok maybe not but still!
yes
I wonder if Chevy will come back with the Chevy 7500 similar to what Chevy use to offer to commercial customers?
Doesn't sound like it, just up to 6500
@@MrTruckTV Okay. Thank you for getting back to me. It would be awesome if Chevy would decide to bring the 7500 back.
the "beds up" light is so you don't take out some bridge while your on your merry way down the road!
is that the same dude who is on the fast lane truck?
yes, same dude
the dot will luv this
I would think is electric driven hydrualic for the dump same as the typical dump trailer . since it would be cheaper and being automatic does the transmission even come with a pto?
Those auto tranny's did come with a pto. I'll have check on this one. Some have a PTO cover on both sides of the transmission.
Dump trailer don't have a choice they have to have electric pumps
we have a heavy duty dump trailer 28gpm pump run by electric start 13 hp Honda engine . that way it can be used behind farm tractors or skidders making logging and field work roads , still enjoy your videos
Thanks, what do you mean still?
I wonder if the 6.8l v10 will fit in my 88 F250 4x4?
Probably
I've got the stock 460ci v8 in there right now. Get 10 mpg, no matter what. up hill, down hill, hauling or empty. 10mpg.
V10 will be about the same.. except you'll have 100 more hp and 40ish more lb-ft of torque
How do you get such little power out of such a large engine?
That’s ford for you....
Cool. Hope you get a chance to test out one with the 6.7 and see can it tow up to 50000. Curious how much it weighs though? I'm guessing that dump setup is a couple thousand pounds by it itself.
Empty is was over 14,000 lbs
Can you please review an International 4300 Durastar or a Freightliner M2 106 with 6 or 7 speed manual transmission please?
We will do a M2
I really love big trucks
But imagine this monster was converted into a speedster
how would the bed not be electric? the truck was not running when you put it up so it's not PTO lol
Yes, I will look at the pump. I'll assume for now an electric motor powering the hydraulic pump. Which is unusual for a truck this size not to use PTO. The advantage would be to be able to dump without turning on the engine. But the switch works without using the ignition key

I'd rather have a 350 with a trailer
Love it.
$12,000 for that dump bed was a rip off for that kind of money you could have got a real pto not the electric one and a better body
How could you NOT start it for us???? C'mon man!
It was a quick video, it doesn't have headers, so there's not any great powerful sound. I'll try to remember to record the sound this weekend
Can it cruise comfortably on highway speeds?
yes
what does it cost?
I stated in one of these video's the exact cost which is around $87,000.
How much for it
No air brakes, so under CDL right?
The GVW is 26,000 lbs so no CDL unless you tow a trailer or are making money with the truck.
Am I missing something here? The title says "First Drive" yet there is no "driving" involved. He doesn't even start the engine. What gives? Click bait.

bad choice. Should have bought a mercedes dump truck. just enough power with good gearing and not a gas guzzler.
would this compete with chevys 6500xd? or is this a different class?
It would if Chevy still made the 6500. 4500, 5500, 6500, 7500 all went away in the GM bankruptcy
MrTruckTV they reintroduced the 6500xd, but it is a lcf now
That LOF is made by Isuzu
Should of been a Diesel ;-(
its a gasser hahaha
Looks like a hydraulic brake booster to me.
Not a diesel.......such a shame.
Yeah, I was surprised and surprised again when Ford told me it is a 2017 not a 2016
Hard to make money when the diesel is always in the shop for something.
I would not even consider a ford diesel. Cummins or nothing
Ford med duty trucks had a cummins 6.7 in it until recently
What?! Is it petrol?!
why dont they just ecoboost it
Nicholas Coucoularis haha funny
+Nicholas Coucoularis Because a high-strung Ecobust won't even be half as reliable or long lasting as an understressed V10.
V 10 > diesel
until chevy and ford start putting manual transmissions back in their truck "who cares"
Are going to drive the f#&*ing thing?!
Kelsey and I drove it into the Rockies Sunday.
Dump box
Not gonna lie the front doesn't look good
Weak ass V10
How much for it
