Also don't forget the riders weight. A light weight bike and an overweight rider defeats the purpose of the bike. An endurance bike is better for the overweight rider he can ride longer and so burn more calories :)
Lots of old overweights buy highest end bikes cuz they got the $$$. The young fit have to budget food/rent vs bike/sports. Such is compromise of life. Work hard to make more $$$ but destroy your body. Stay healthy and don't kill yourself at work but make less $$$.
Except shinny competition bikes make no sense if you don't have the flexibility and strength they're made for. An old dentist with 2w/kg and big gut will have a shitty fit even with spacers compared to an high end endurance bike.
I ride my endurance bike 90% of the time. My aero bike isn't comfortable and my lightweight bike is "too light" for me. The aero and lightweight bike are both faster; however, I find myself fatiguing quicker on them. I can finish stronger on my endurance bike, which seemingly makes up for the weight differential.
FroopieLoopies the comment I have been looking for. I had concluded endurance was the way to go for one road bike and ordered one, but still wasn't sure I made the right choice
Most importantly when you get to realize that what makes the price go sky high is the weight reduction parts. I have a crazy lightweight bike but I would exchange it for an endurance one if I could do it without starting from scratch and loosing money from the trade. Getting tired more quickly won't give you an extra speed advantage for long, and being sore quicker ain't gonna help on those 80-120Km rides.
Bill Bradford I had and still have a trail bike as well. I have limited time available for riding bikes. That being said, I now have a lightweight road bike on my trainer.
I think most people would be better off getting two bikes. A good XC-hard tail 29" mountain bike and a good racing-bike. In combo you are covered all year round and on all roads and most styles of riding. The mountain bike can go mountain/forest riding AND with slick tires and locked suspension it can go pretty fast in a comfortable riding position and be your bike of choice during the winter months while your race bike can offer pure speed and road excitement. Actually for most people I would personally recommend a good XC mountain bike if you can only afford one bike.
Endurance bike. Add some weight ( 2 x 1 litre bottles ). F = mass x Accel. Once you are going, it takes more to slow you down. When you are really light, it only takes a gentle breeze to blow you backwards.
@Tom Leong What about TT bike, non-UCI legal triathlon bike, faired recumbent, CX, fat bike, hybrid, touring, city bike, single speed, fixed gear, track bike, bmx, ...
>The best solution is to just get all three Wow, thanks, I never would have thought of that. I'll just go out and do that with the maybe $800 I have saved. Seriously, though, good video. It was very informative, detailed without being boring. I'm just salty about being broke.
I would take an aero bike and a enduro mtb and a folding bike for the city, if that happens i would the most satisfied person at my blk. I love bikes since childhood.
All three please ha ha, one for a day in the hill's a day on the flat and the commute to work. Never have enough bikes. Thanks for the video all the best Andy
i have been seeing this and i suggest you choose endurance bike(because the speed difference between bike types is not much) or aero bike with the wheels of endurance bike and you will get a fast bike with a advantages on bad roads.
get a crit bike with deep section wheels, a second set of climbing wheels for the crit bike. then get a endurance bike with road tires and a set of gravel wheels. 4 bikes in 2
Question: can you reduce the tire size from 26" to 24" and expect the bike to set a little lower? I inherited two 26" vintage road bikes, but my nuts are pressed too tight on the top tube? Or any other suggestions?
You could use it for cyclocross. But a true cyclocross bike will have less fork rake and be a little higher stack. It makes it more nimble. The endurance road bike will feel a little to stable and hard to handle with the longer wheel base.
I've been told that CX bikes are more aggressive and less comfortable than endurance bikes, as they are made with 1-2 hour races in mind, not all day rides where you want more comfort
oh yeah to answer your question cyclocross cross is a complete different category and mainly for both on and off road. And like he said they tend to to be more aggressive and agile.
javon player "Agressive" is the opposite from "endurance" in terms of bike frames. Aggessive means shorter wheelbase for sharper handling, and your handlebars will be lower forcing you into a more aero but less comfortable position. Endurance has a longer wheelbase for more stability, and a slightly more upright riding position for minimal aero but more comfort so you can do a 200km ride without killing your back.
Agreed! each bike suits different folks. There's an argument to be had for all three bikes at some point for most people; however, the stats suggest that you can't go wrong with an endurance bike. Especially given how much the current crop blurs the lines between all three categories!
Check out the side profiles, the cannondale puts the rider in a much more agressive position - definitely the performance pick. Whether you can ride in that position is another question however...
just invest only a little bit more for the Trek Emonda ALR 4. With that youll get a full Tiagra groupset and a perfect frame. You`ll definitely regret spending that much money on a sora groupset!
You know what i just have light endurance bike 7.690 kilo with aluminum wheels with some upgrades it can go at 6.700 but i am fine as if it is right now
Aero is more for racing, because it's the only way of getting faster without dropping bike weight. Light bikes feel amazing and are really fast up hills. Endurance bikes will take you anywhere and they will give you stronger legs. It's 90% about the rider. A perfect illistration of the N+1 concept.
haha! it never ends, does it! :)
a perfect illustration of nothing.
Ha!
Awesomeness Buddy.
I was about to say the very same thing.
Cheers Pal.
Wheels Down & Head Up!!
👍👍
Endurance for Long rides
Aero for Races and speed
Lightweight for climbing
I just realized that the name of those 3 bikes are anagrams of each other
Also don't forget the riders weight. A light weight bike and an overweight rider defeats the purpose of the bike.

That’s what I did. Started with a 27.5 xc mountain bike and now am looking for a light all around road bike for summer/roads and ironman training
Its like having 3 girlfriends.
gio957 but better
And cheaper than 3 GFs

then i have 4...

Yeah like we are all just “ballin” out of control lol

Sure, the best solution is to get all three only if you have a large bank account.
lol, or if you work in a bike shop.
pro deals right dude?
Or if you know someone in the far east who produce all three of them and they are designed well and good quality.
of course we can! I just need to sell off a kidney and one of my lungs, that way I'm more lightweight too

Question: can you reduce the tire size from 26" to 24" and expect the bike to set a little lower? I inherited two 26" vintage road bikes, but my nuts are pressed too tight on the top tube? Or any other suggestions?
you need a bike fit
So whichever bike is best for a daily comuting and occasional long distance ride? What would be recommended for let's say £1k budget?
How long is the commute?
Good vid. So would endurance include cyclocross? Or is that a whole nother category for off-road?
You could use it for cyclocross. But a true cyclocross bike will have less fork rake and be a little higher stack. It makes it more nimble. The endurance road bike will feel a little to stable and hard to handle with the longer wheel base.

I love a happy ending
Personally I'm an aero person. The decision here depends on the rider skills, health, abilities and where they ride.
Agreed! each bike suits different folks. There's an argument to be had for all three bikes at some point for most people; however, the stats suggest that you can't go wrong with an endurance bike. Especially given how much the current crop blurs the lines between all three categories!
I'm biased towards aero too, mainly because I don't care about a bike's weight & I want to be fast.
Basically one for long flats one for long hills and one for long descents
I'm good with lightweight bikes, I like climbing because I'm not that good in sprinting 😅
All 3 bikes cost 25.000 Euros, for the money you can certainly buy a house somewhere :)
Don't be sensible! You can't ride a house! 😂😂

Hi guya hope sum1 could help me. I like tado a max 35mile ride. I'm 14st so aoeed is more my thing. Is an aero bike best option 4 me??thanx
Aero is more for racing, because it's the only way of getting faster without dropping bike weight.
Light bikes feel amazing and are really fast up hills.
Endurance bikes will take you anywhere and they will give you stronger legs.
It's 90% about the rider.

Any bike is a gravel bike if you're brave enough...
The aero looks sexy as hell...
So combine them.. to make it allrounder bike, get that oltre xr4 of bianchi.. ^^
To buy all three would leave me riding naked with but a helmet and without enough calories to sustain the riding. Could always eat the cork I guess
