- This animation is merely but a brief overview to the wonderful (and sometimes painful) world of binders. Please bind safely and ensure others are doing the same. Check out the Nonbinary Wiki for more information on binding: nonbinary.wiki...
I got my binders through Underworks years ago, but I also highly recommend gc2b, which sells binders in more varieties of colors
Here are some resources if you are in a position where you can't get a binder on your own:
Finding free/used binders - there's plenty of resources to get a free, used, or lower priced binder. Some include:
Point of Pride, Free International Shipping
pointofpride.o...
Replace the Ace
www.replacethea...
USA and Puerto Rico only
www.inabind.tra...
UK only
MORF - morfmanchester....
There's also the occasional Tumblr binder giveaway.
Last, but especially not least, there's uppercaseCHASE1, who gives away binders monthly as well as other cool stuff!
Washing your binder:
it's always recommended to hand wash your binder and let it air dry to help keep its binding strength as long as possible. However, not everybody has time for it to soak and dry if they need it the next day. If so, it's okay to wash them, but make sure to put your machine on a “delicates” type of setting

Once my aunt came to my house and she brings so many random things. One time she was like, "I brought so many binders for you guys!" And my eyes lit up, I was so happy but I didn't say anything. I helped carry all her stuff in from her car. She meant school binders. That was 100 to a 0 real fast

I feel bad for you-
Once, I was going to my dad's friend's daughter's bday party. (Ik its long). They rented a villa with a swimming pool just for this occasion. I didn't know anybody, not even the girl that well. My cousin's other cousin who isn't related to me but Ik them came along too so I only chilled out with her. I was going through shit and there was this kind of emotion in me, telling me to cry. I don't know why. I kept looking up so I wouldn't cry. Maybe it was cause of my period tho. But I really wanted to swim with my cousin's cousin (lets call her katie, not her irl name). So.. I ended up swimming with her, I was kinda tall so my shirt didn't get in. but I was wearing jeans, worst mistake of my life. My mom asked why my jeans were wet and I told her I put my legs in the swimming pool. I brought extra jeans in my bag, so when I went to the bathroom to change... PAIN AROSE. It was stuck and it hurt so much, especially cause they were tight. I ended up having a panic attack at the end of it, I had my phone so I told my friend abt it and she helped me I guess.
it hurts my heart to see people in the comments talking about having to hide their identities from their families. No one should have to feel alone and unsupported among their own family. I sincerely hope things get better for everyone who is having a hard time. You all deserve acceptance and love. You are who you are, whether you're male, female, in-between, or neither. As long as you're happy in your identity, that's all that should matter. I just wish more people thought that way.
Something that hit me like a truck:
DONT sleep in a binder! Being in a binder for that long w/ make you lose all the muscle in that part of your body. And start retaining the body's stucture on the piece of compression fabric holding your torso. It can also break a fucking rib
Also, you breathe more deeply when you sleep and restricting that is _really_ bad
I once forgot to take mine off before I fell asleep on the couch. Thanfully I got lucky and nothing bad happened tho, but to anyone reading this, DO NOT TAKE THE CHANCE AND PLEASE REMEMBER TO TAKE IT OFF. Your body needs to take breaks!
After not listening to people saying not to sleep in binders and not learning my lesson the first time I cracked a rib when I was 12 DON'T WEAR YOUR BINDER TO BED. LIKE I HAVE CRACKED THE SAME RIB TWICE. My most recent one was a month and a half ago and I still can't bind since it's healing really slow this time. I promise binding safely and dealing with dysphoria is better than paying for getting your ribs fixed.
Uh I have really bad dysphoria and I kept my on for weeks never took it off cause I’m to scared to see my chest I still have same trouble but not as bad now but with sport bra’s

Hey! Advice to trans boys who's parent wont get them binders, from a trans boy whos parents wont let him get a binder. The way I'm going to sneak a binder is to find a close friend who has a credit card, and ask them to get one for you (if you can pay them back, that would be great). Then, get it shipped to either their house if their parents are okay with it, or some other place where they can pick it up. After, you can get it from them at school and only wear it there, or you can hide it at home. Hope this helps!

To the people who can't let their parents/family/caretakers see their binder: good hiding spots would be lockers in school but beware that you will only be able to put them on and off at school. Use this as last resort.
If you want to hide them at home, get a mattress cover that goes under the bedsheet. They usually have a rubber band to sling over the mattress to make sure they don't move around, giving you a perfect little hiding spot. They are also great for avoiding stains on the mattress and don't need to be washed often. Alternatively, you can get an allergy sheet underneath your usual bed sheet or simply a soft, plushy comforter or blanket, put a sheet over it, put the binder there and lay it on your mattress before putting the bedsheet on. It's hella comfortable and so thick, you can put multiple other things in there.
If buying these things is not an option or you're okay with damaging your mattress, you can also cut a little slit on the side of the mattress or underside and hide it in the stuffing. Use this as a last resort or the hiding spots beneath. There's a lot of bedbugs where you least expect them and explaining to your provider why you cut your mattress open will raise suspicion.
Hiding spots for peeps with extremely observant parents/ parents who do the bed:
2. Closet: Get a hanger and put the binder on and multiple t-shirts/ and or a thick hoodie over it. You don't just save space and hangers, it's also super easy to remove the binder and put it back under the t-shirts. This is also great if you're like me and have a mother who buys me unwanted dresses which take up unnecessary space and just collect dust. You can hide it in the dress.
Alternatively, you can try to find out if the back part of the closet is movable, depending on wether or not it's the super thin cover that's usually used. You can push it up or down oftentimes. They are flexible enough to push a flat object through. If not, you can try cutting a vertical slit right where the floor and back meet and a little bit off the top, so you can push it up and down.
3. Sewing pockets into clothes that are usually rolled up or folded. They won't fall right out when someone decides to use them. There's tutorials online.
4. If you have school binders, you can try hiding them in there in-between papers. You can also just put the binder on the shelf or wherever you store them, close them and push the binder in. Take a paper stack and cut enough off to make sure there's room for the binder, then put in the paper. They obstruct the view on the binder well enough not to appear obvious on the first look or not at all if you do it well enough. I recommend storing the school binder horizontally so the light doesn't shine into the opening.
4. Dresser or anything with a drawer: First, make sure the bottom part is removable. Get a sheet of hard plastic thin enough to not take too much space but still remain stable and not too flexible. You can also try to get something that looks similar to the bottom cover of the drawer. If you really want to make sure you won't be found out or want to hide things in each drawer, get multiple sheets for ever drawer. Absolutely make sure the sheet has the same circumference as the inside. Glue it on the outside of the drawer but leave a little space between the bottom cover and sheet. Make sure the drawer still retracts smoothly and the plastic doesn't fall off, even when you bang it around a little. Now remove the bottom part of the drawer and voilà, secret drawer inside drawer.
If the bottom part is not removable, you'll have to glue 3 dices or anything rectangle shaped to the bottom cover on the inside of the drawer. You take 2 dices/rectangles and glue them to the corners of the same side. You take the third and put it on the adjacent side, right in the middle. Now you can put the sheet on the rectangles and pop it out whenever you need the binder. Just apply a little pressure to one of the corners without the little rectangle. Be mindful of the weight you put on the corners without a rectangle, though! We don't want the sheet to bend.
Mind you, these tips can be used for other things than a binder- I simply focused on hiding spots big enough for binders. There's plenty of places in a room to hide even smaller things. Feel free to ask if you want to know more spots for smaller things or comment to add suggestions!
Thanks! This was really helpful

As an amab enby, thank you for this video. There's a lot I don't know about what trans men or ftnb people go through, and I think it's important to be educated on it. And while I already knew what binders were, there's a lot of info about them in this video that I'd never heard of before, so I'm very grateful for it.
Before I had top surgery, I would bind so often that I was constantly in pain even if I didn't wear it for like a week. One time I wore a binder for a week straight (even when sleeping and showering) my body hurt so bad because of that. I also would frequently bind with Ace, tape, and multiple binders at the same. Sometimes I would even wear corsets over my chests, or waste restrictors. I'm surprised I never broke a rib.
I recommend trans tape, it’s a method safe for all sorts of activities, such as sports and swimming, and is much more affordable and much safer than binders. transtape.life/
@@ellis-illustrates9074 my chest was way too big for trans tape, but I don't really need to worry about it anymore because I had top surgery over a month ago
@@sunsetsarsaparilla4434 Ayyye, congratulations!
Agender here! For anyone who can’t get a binder, I highly recommend a sports bra!! Ever since I realized they existed, I’ve been using them. I am too scared to use a binder, but am also too scared to do top surgery, so when I realized what sports bras could do, I was ecstatic. :)
edit: one year later, and ive finally gotten a binder!! its a zip up one, and its amazing!! if you are planning on getting one get the zip up!!!! its so much easier to use and wear, and if you’re feeling hot during the summer, just unzip that bad boy and no one will even know! the only downside is that you cant wear v necks without a zipper showing through lol
also, there is a really mean person in the replies, i don’t recommend engaging
yes!! i am genderqueer and i feel like a binder wouldn't be the best for me and the danger scares me so i just always wear a sports bra!!

@@UsernameDoesntCare what happened now?
This!! I'm a trans man and have been binding for about 7 years now. I've found that for me at least, wearing a binder only when I'm leaving the house and then wearing a sports bra when I'm home or exercising is a nice mix, as it gives my body and lungs a rest from constant binding
Sports bras are a godsend 🙇🏽♀️ no matter what brand, if it's a decent one they take you at least one cup size down
I used to bind with 3 or 4 sports bras at once... don’t do that.
Duly noted... that sounds painful
@@PhoenixAnimations I can assure you, it is. The first couple minutes is fine for me, after half an hour it starts to get painful and I can't wear them for much longer than that.
I'm about to go on vacation to a lake, and I only have one binder-- guess who's about to go swimming in multiple sports bras!
I do that for 4 hours three days a week with a week off (school) may be tiring but it's rewarding to not feel crippling dysphoria
idk but i been wearing 4 sports bra’s and i got used to it. Like it just doesn’t hurt for me anymore. In fact, I feel comfortable sleeping with my binder
My Non-Binary Friend: “Ayo I just gotta binder!”
My Dumbass Cis Brain: “For school or storing art?”
Okay but seriously, I had no clue that things like this even existed. 2020 truly was the year that opened my eyes into the world of the LGBT+ community. And while I’m not LGBT+ myself, it’s cool to know more about this community and expand my knowledge on such topics.

I'm a cis dude but damn that looks like it hurts. I'm watching these videos to better understand my trans friend.
Oh my gosh that's so sweet your looking up stuff like this to understand them! I'm glad they have a friend like you!👍
Good for u dude I'm glad ur accepting ur friend and learning along the way :)
Pls do your amazing
Trust me man, they def aren't comfy. If you wear them for short periods, they're not exactly uncomfortable tho, but they do become more uncomfortable past 8-12 hours. I've also accidently fallen asleep in mine which is super painful, and when it's hot out it's absolute hell.
Also it's really awesome of you to be actively trying to learn more to better understand your friend!
You've won the respect of the entire trans community
This was in my recommendations and as a cis girl. I'm okay with it. One of my friends were talking about getting a binder (Trans male) and I was so confused. I thought he was talking about school binders lol- but glad to see this video because now I'm informed :]
Edit: also! You're valid for whoever you are! Keep going mates, you'll get there soon! :]

when I was younger I would ducktape my chest, I can't even remember how many times I did it, but it would make it impossible to breath! Don't tape them down! yes it made me feel happy to put on a tshirt and look somewhat flat chested but the pain was unreal.
I'm getting my first binder in July! My friends mom is bought it for my for my birthday. I literally started crying In the Skype call when Ama told me ._.
Aww that’s really sweet of them to do that for you
I’m planning on getting a binder when I’m a little older , this was helpful ^^
I don't think I can get one 'til I can at least drive to a friend's house because Idk if my parents would be okay with me being trans and I don't want to take risks with telling them about it when I can't do anything if I get kicked out, which is a really scary thought.
two years wonder if this guys got a binder yet
i recently bought my first binder about a month ago and omg
legit tears of joy when i looked in the mirror. i've never experienced that before. now im working on basically breaking it in and getting used to wearing it for longer and longer
So you just told me that what i'm wearing rn is a binder? I LOVE MY PARENTS
Kudos to your parents, that’s awesome!
Wait what? How were you wearing one without knowing? I’m confused.
Well, I do hope your parents are supportive and did get you binders (though maybe they should have actually told you information about binders before getting you one) but you might be wearing a sports bra, which, some, at first glance, may look like a binder.
I’m like stupid flexible in the arms, so taking mine on and off is a piece of cake unless I just took a shower
Trying to put a binder on when your skin is wet is so hard
@@reharm_reality I sweat like hell, so summer is just a pain with getting out of my binder, yesterday I had to ask my mom to help me take it off.
@@reharm_reality

But I can relate because it’s such a pain putting on a sports bra after taking a shower
Then my arms start to hurt and stuff
also don’t use binders with clasps or velcro!! they don’t disperse the pressure evenly and are much more unsafe than ones from places like gc2b or underworks!
Dude idk how you're so calm and nice when responding to all these people. Excellent video anyways.
Haha thank you! I appreciate you recognizing that. I try to get to all comments I can, especially ones with people who may be asking a question or who are confused. Thanks for watching and hope you have an awesome rest of your day/night!
I'm not a trans guy (at least not all the time, i'm gender fluid) but most of the time i just hate my chest. I think it's not good on me, like i'm not in the right body, like i can't be myself.
That's actually normal for cisgender women too, that's why breast reduction surgery was invented
@steel myr Good job, you've probably gone put of your way to let everyone in the top 100 or so comments on this 2 year old video know this, you want a cookie for hating minorities? A prize? Here's some recognition, maybe it'll fill the void of the love your parents clearly never filled.
@steel myr I genuinely doubt that
@steel myr What I meant was that no matter where you live, trans people are a minority, as less common than their, say, counterpart, cis people, like you and I
@steel myr well stop living
I can’t wait to move out of my parents’ to get a binder! Right now I have very strict parents and no friends that could help me buy a binder so I’ll just have to wait. My chest is also very big so homemade binders don’t work :,)
Don’t know why this was in my recommendeds, but it was interesting.
I had no idea binders were so complex. I always thought they were just like extra tight sports bras.
The more you know ⭐️🌈
Anyone and everyone can watch my videos :) it's great to have you here though. I appreciate you watching and learning more! And of course for the kind comment - they always make my day. If you have any questions about binders or other stuff, please don't hesitate to ask them on this video or any of the others!
I never heard of their existence until now and it was quite interesting learning about them.
I don't even need a binder, I'm flat enough that if my hair was shorter i would already look androgynous
Ay that's great! Thanks for watching anyway.
dude literally just flexing here, nice lol
I'm the opposite, my chest is literally huge no homemade binder has worked and I'm not in a safe enough place to buy a real one
YOURE SO LUCKY I HAVE BOMB BOOBS I HATE THEM AND PLUS I CANT BUY A BINDER BC GUESS WHO LIVES IN A HOMOPHOBIC TOXIC RACIST XENOPHOBIC EVERYTHINGPHOBIC FAMILY
@@fishyjell Yoooo, if you ever do get a real binder, if it isn't uncomfortable, can you describe how it is? I'm not trans or anything but I've always wondered how it felt/worked for bigger boobs. (I would just buy one but they aren't exactly cheap, and like I said, I'm not trans. I guess if I ever do, I could simply donate it)
Heya so I just ordered a my second binder after my old one stretched out quite a bit, when I put the new one ( one from underworks in xs btw)one which I badly got over my shoulders, I still had a chest, not as flat as I thought I'd end up and I low-key wanna cry? :')
I'm not sure how much tighter they go but if you machine was a binder it can get a bit tighter.
Yeah I’ve been there as a person with D cups whenever I bind it just looks like I have a B cup and I cry
I'm sorry to hear that friend :( If you can afford it, I highly recommend checking out binders from GC2B. That's where I got my binders from, but they're a bit more expensive than underworks, I think. It's been a couple years since I wore an underworks binder, and I remember them being super uncomfortable (I believe they were originally made for short-term usage by cosplayers anyways, not for long-term use as a trans person, but that may have changed). I've gotten all of my binders from gc2b since then, and they're much more comfortable, and easy to get on, and they flatten really nicely. (This coming from someone who had to bind DD cups TT_TT)

Sad thing for me, my parents are Transphobic. So I can't really get a binder, and all my sports' bras aren't helping. I'm going to try my hardest to get a binder, even if I risk losing the trust of my parents!
It’s hard to find a balance of parents and mental sanity, especially as a minor. Best of luck with them. Stay strong and stay safe.
Always be careful while binding especially if you have rib or breathing issues like me I have asthma and a lot of upper body issues that mainly effect my rib so I only wear a binder for 5-6 hours which is the longest I can wear it without issues so I’d suggest if you have any issues with ribs, lungs/breathing or anything like that max hours can be 5-6 but of course you can wear it for longer but never wear it for longer the 8 hours 12 hours can be pushing it
Funny how I want a binder though I’m not trans, I just really wanna hide my chest
That's totally okay! Anyone and everyone can wear a binder, regardless the person's gender identity :)
aye same
Same. Personally I don't feel comfortable showing off my skin. Even if I was a boy that wouldn't change. I think my chest looks fine but I just don't want people looking at that part of me.
When putting on a binder does it feel like you're 4 and just learned how to put on your own shirt? Or is it more like a "stuck under the blankets" kind of situation?
Oooh good question!!! Probably different for everyone, but I'd lean towards very strong blankets haha. The feeling dissipates pretty quick once it's fully on though :)
@steel myr they hate you too and so do I :)

A binder brand I recommend is GC2B. I bought one of their binders but got the wrong size the first time and they were really nice about it.
I would also recommend taking a 2 day break from wearing your binder every week. If you don't have to wear it somewhere or inside your home, don't. Taking a break from your binder every now and again is important.
Awesome advice, thank you!! I’m also a big fan of gc2b :) glad they were able to help with your binder!
I've heard gc2b's quality had really gone down the drain lately. Something about not being able to keep up with increased demand
You can also bind by wearing 2 or 3 tight bras or a sports pra, if your chest is bigger you can use 2 sports bras, but with these methods it is recommended you only use these methods up to 8 hours and if your in public find a restroom or an unused room if you cannot find one.
When you haven’t come out and your suffocating in sports bras:
If you have any sewing skills try making something compressing with non stretchy fabric. You can say that you will use this as a sleeping top for example and they will hopefully not question you
I can't even wear my normal ones without being uncomfortable 😭😭
my sports bras dont even do the job...so im always uncomfortable
Sadly, in my case a winter coat cant hide my chest... I really need one of these
try wearing xx large shirts
Disclaimer: I don’t wear binders.
What might help in summer is covering your body in baby powder. It makes it easier to slide into clothes, absorbs sweat, and reduces chafing.
Do you apply powder before or after.
@@l0sts0ul89 Before wearing. Probably.
As much as I support you guys, pls take care of yourself because binders , especially in winter when blood circulation becomes more limited than it is in summer could worsen your health
Thanks for the concern! I’ll take that into consideration since I bind a ton!
Am I the only trans guy who finds binders much more comfortable than not binding at all, my chest always hurt and was so heavy no bra ever could make it comfortable I couldn't even move without wearing something that kept them in place, and now that I am wearing a binder I am much more active and I even get the a feeling of euphoria wearing it it is a win/win situation except for the fact that a I can't wear em for too long or else my rips get damaged :(
Some cis women do too, that's who breast reduction surgery was invented for
You could use sports tape maybe

I used tape to bind once and my friend found out, she waited until my family wouldn't hear due to me not being out yet before yelling at me about it because she didn't want me getting hurt, at the time I was scared, but I'm grateful she did that
I'm glad you're friend was looking out for you (although yelling always scares me...). Tape is nooooo fun! Know that one from experience too ahha
Thank you for mentioning the exercise and rib damage part! I used to wear my binder in my gym class at school, and we didn't do a lot so it didn't matter that much. However, I ended up hurting my ribs extremely bad when we had to do this big running thing. I told my teacher I thought I had bruised my ribs or something, but she wouldn't let me just walk {notice I said walk, not stop. I didn't want to completely stop, I just wanted to put less pressure on my ribs. She said that "I'd know if I bruised my ribs", and honestly I'm still a little salty that she didn't take a kid obviously in pain seriously} My ribs hurt non stop for over a week afterwards, and I'd randomly get a really sharp pain in them for months afterwards. Little 14 year old me never got the warning of rib damage, just the whole not being able to breathe thing. People need to talk about this more!
Wow! Thank you so much for sharing that experience. I'm so sorry that teacher was just not listening nor being very understanding. I hope you you don't get anymore sharp pain and that you are doing well overall since posting this comment :)
