Not your typical rocker, Led Zep has plenty of them. But it’s the perfect song. The beautiful intro, the intriguing thought provoking lyrics, the 7 minute build up, incredible solo, and crescendo ending! Check out Immigrant Song for a rocker, Since I’ve Been Loving You for blues rock, Kashmir for eastern influences, or Thank You for a beautiful song!

“Since I’ve Been Loving You” - live at Madison Square Garden, 1973 would be a excellent exposure to a whole other side of Plant’s voice. “Whole Lotta Love” - official music video is another one.

Plants voice and vocal range pre 1973 was insane. Unfortunately, he had surgery to remove vocal nodules in ‘73 and lost a lot of his upper register.
Everyone recommends live performances from their MSG ‘73 show but if you want to see Plant in his prime, check out anything from Royal Albert Hall in 1970.

To be clear, the comment about Kashmir was in reference to another Zeppelin song called Kashmir...not the fabric. If you want a really great representation of Robert Plant's voice, I highly suggest "Since I've Been Loving You" (some would suggest the live version from Madison Square Garden in 1973, but the studio version is also a great option). I also suggest checking out the tribute version of this song sung by Ann Wilson of Heart at the Kennedy Center Honors where they honored Led Zeppelin. The best cover of this song out there - it made Robert Plant cry.

The Heart cover at this concert is a real masterpiece, featuring strings, 2 choirs and Ann Wilson, in her 60s, absolutely putying the vocals on a level that really must be witnessed to appreciate. They also used Jason Bonham, son of disceased drummer John Bonham, on drums. Plant didnt know until he hit the stage thst Jason was performing. Later, Plant explained his tears were because of how much Jason reminded him of John, and how much he missed his old friend

50 years later! Haha! Honstly, I once had a pen pal friend in West Virginia. And I sent her lots of Led Zeppelin as MP3's
She couldn't believe: all that folky and bluesy stuff. She had never heard it even in the US.
Like "Tea for one"; "Since I've been loving you", "Bron-yr-aur". Even a raggae song like "D'yer mak'er".
There is a lot to discover. It has a reason, that they've been so influencial to so many others.
"Fool in the rain" from their last album is so fun. To anyone listening to that: PLS! : Listen also to "Hope Road" by Anne Clark.

One account of how the band's name was chosen held that Keith Moon and Jon "the Ox" Entwistle, of The Who had suggested that a supergroup with Page and Beck would go down like a "lead balloon", it became Led Zeppelin instead of Lead Zeppelin because as you proved in the Child in time lyrics it was suggested that dropping the 'a' in lead, at the suggestion of their manager, Peter Grant, those unfamiliar with the term would pronounce it as "leed". The word "balloon" was replaced by "zeppelin", a word which, according to music journalist Keith Shadwick, brought "the perfect combination of heavy and light, combustibility and grace" to Page's mind. Page and Beck were in The Yardbirds before Page started Led Zeppelin and changed the name of the new band after Beck left. Eric Clapton was also in the Yardbirds at one point in time.

Problem with the younger generations is they all think you have to have perfect pitch and tone and be a flawless singer, and with that mindset you end up with what you have today with all singers sounding almost identical. Give me old school, when each vocalist had pretty much their own thing going on. Plant, Jagger, Mercury, Lennon, Dylan, Morrison, Daltry the list goes on and on and they all sounded totally different to one another, and music was very much richer and more rewarding for it

Jimmy Page who wrote it wanted to break one of the typical song writing rules that songs shouldn't speed up (significantly) as the progress.....either back and forth or slowing down at the end .... So you get a song that started slow and built up to a banger ........

Great reaction Maggie....! OK, now you absolutely MUST do their live version of Stairway circa 1973 at Madison Square Garden... It's Zep at their apex doing their magnum opus! Many believe it is better than the studio version. Plant has more flexibility and Page adds to the solo. Thx again and keep up the great work.

    "Eyebrow army"
Emilia Clarke invented that army. And you will "bend the knee". 😁
