Jazzbaltica, Salzau/Germany, 5th July 2008 Jonathan Kreisberg - Guitar Will Vinson - Alto Saxophone Gary Versace - Piano Joe Martin - Bass Mark Ferber - Drums
Guys like Jonathan must spend every minute of every day practicing. I'm studying jazz now and the amount ideas that he uses in every different key just seem like they would take multiple lifetimes to learn. It's Herculean. Shows an incredible level of commitment. I love his playing.
Just incredible jazzmanship, with nuances, techniques, arts and creativity all rolled into one. There are many other great jazz guitarists, all are good in some aspects, but Jonathan seems to excel in all of the most important areas which makes his playing a joy to listen to and appreciate at the same time.
You are a master. Everything is perfect. Sound, timing, interpertation. And own identity.your sound is Jonathan Kreisberg. World class, . Top thank you so much
Wonderful. I love the chord melody. He reminds me of two great guitarists from the past, Barney Kessel and Johnny Smith. Both were perennial poll winners in their time.
I'm in absolute awe of these modern players. I grew up listening to Tal's versions of this tune, but I think Jonathan has taken the tune to a new dimension. I love it, and the sound is amazing.
I agree with Johannes Mann. What a sound. I read an article recently about jazz guitar players using Telecasters - Frissel, Sco, Lage, etc. I like that sound a lot. But the writer went too far for me. He said the sound of a big Gibson Hollowbody (ES175 or L5) and a Polytone were "cliche". If this sound is cliche, then so is a grand piano's sound.
I doubt Leo set out to build a tele jazz guitar, But jazz is about the new unique and having to listen to any kind of the same thing over and over is not enjoyable.having said that I do love the archtop sound but wont condemn a tele for jazz some times
there’s a time and place for both, i don’t think julians live in la set would be the same on an arch top top and this definitely wouldn’t be the same on a tele
Jonathan Kreisberg is awesome! I heard him recently (end of January) on this year's Blue Note at Sea jazz cruise. Please vivit us in UK soon, Jonathan!
I think this Mesa Boogie set up is his signature sound. There are performances where he doesn't have the boogie and the sound is not quite dialed in like this performance. Kudos to the person who recorded this concert.
Simply beautiful. JK cherishes the simplicity of this song's melody and adds embellishment only to the extent that respects the author's original work. So smooth and clean.
That's incredible. I love that it stay soft and harmonious all along. I'm usually not a fan of guitar, but here (maybe a jazz guitar?) is exactly what i love, as i love this kind of jazz. I heard some jazz guitar music, and sometimes it's too rough but here, they succeed to maintain something soft, yet technically elaborated and ornemented.
He is AWESOME, my fav "new" jazz guitar player, but this recording is awesome as well in terms of quality...so pristine, so warm, so delicate yet accurate........
Quel magnifique morceau !
It’s a shame that incredible guitarists can exist like this today, and nobody really cares. Because there’s such an ocean of content to wade through. If this were 30 years ago this guy would be on the cover of magazines.
He has a huge following, look at that full house. To quote a great teacher of mine, "Some of the best music ever played, was played to a room with 3 people in it". Success isn't always measured in money or fame.
@@carguy3460 That's Jazz Baltica, which is a festival. So people are there to see more than just him. Sure, you can measure success in various ways, but the guy is a professional musician, and should be entitled to a good living, as much as anyone else who is equally talented in other fields. But I bet he makes less than I do, and that feels wrong for someone who is way more talented at what he does than I am at what I do. I just happen to work in a field that pays really well.
@@andybaldman Teachers make 50k a year and Dak Prescott got a 44MM contract, so...yea, life is unfair. I get your point, I don't disagree but for a jazz player in 2023, he has a following and I'm sure he makes a nice living do what he loves.
This still slaps hard in 2023. I revisted it often when I need the goodnes. What an increble group of musicians!

One of the best ensemble versions of this tune, bar none.
A very musical and inventive guitarist, great lines and phrasing.
This performance summarizes everything that one could ever hope to possibly achieve as a jazz guitarist. Sheer beauty.

2:30 I love those chromatically descending stacked fourths into the ii-7 V9#5 of the bVImaj7.
The best version of that beautiful standard!
Maravillosa interpretación

Telecaster, I do not like that sound at all ... I just love arch tops the best :) But everyone there own.

Couldn't have said It better myself. Great point
Thank you Bryan! The personal sound comes from the musician/artist, no matter what instrument! There is no cliché if the music is honest.

his sound is just .. damn
blissful ballad guitar chord melody perfection
Fabuleux, un des grands maitres de la guitare d'aujourd'hui, et un très bon groupe avec lui !! Merci beaucoup .
Great player, great teacher, great guy.

great to hear a definitive rendering of a classic standard!!
Stupenda interpretazione - Grande chitarrista - Un gusto musicale meraviglioso.

The Gibson ES175d makes my favorite guitar sound and timbre.

This is an extraordinary fine version to Duke Vernon song.

Perfection! And so much soul in it :)

Lets not overlook the sublime brush work so perfectly complementing the overall musical tapestry

such a killin' take of this song. Jonathan's one guitar sounds like a thousand...
Great version of this nice theme, and the warm sound of the Gibson, backed by a deep bass, is delightful.

the setting of each sensor for each strings on the neck humbucker is explaning the equilibrium between bass and high strings :)
I dig it too!

saw his duo gig with Michael Stephens on sax at Bar Next Door, NYC last Weds evening. Sublime playing at his regular spot

Try Kenny burrell rendition of the same tune.
@Scooterfruit can I touch you? Best, Sandemose
the beginning of this tune is nothing short of sublime - but gets too muso and technical imo - still love john though
