- In the 1943 Quebec Agreement Canada and the United Kingdom were contributing partners, as they supplied scientists and technicians for the Manhattan Project. The three nations agreed to secrecy, and not even the USSR was informed. This agreement was revised in the 1944 Hyde Park Agreement signed by Winston Churchill and Franklin Roosevelt.

If they had, then they probably only would have served a few years in prison. But they chose not to cooperate. It was their own refusal to help mitigate the harm they had done that did them in.

When I worked in Military Intelligence at the Pentagon, the penalty for espionage was 10 years in prison and $10,000 fine. I don't know what the penalties are today, but they don't seem to deter people in the US Military from selling secrets to Communist China. US ARMY 1968-1971.

Have you ever considered doing something on McCarthy? I read a book on him and it turns out he was 100% correct about his Soviet Spies / Communists.. actually he massively understated how bad the problem was.. James Forrestal is another one worth looking into .
I thought that I was fairly well informed on the Manhattan project spies, but this video presents a lot of less distributed information.

Sir, thank you for this talk. It is very sad how many people in the free world were working for the USSR. I have the sinking feeling the sentences for those convicted rather than being proportionate to the offense was in part because of who they were.
Executing the Rosenbergs but allowing the Walker family to live showed that the fight against Communism was all for show.

The main exonerating point some make for Julius is that he lacked expertise regarding the atomic bomb. but that wasn't his role. although he was an electrical engineer his job was coordinating, communicating, passing on documents and recruiting. Ethel assisted him. They were guilty, however, later spies who did far worse ended up in prison rather than the electric chair. (Jonathan Pollard, Aldrich Ames, Robert Hansen). So, some very bad people eluded execution while the Rosenbergs did not. A sign of the times, I guess.
