I have both. 57s in my Standard and 59s in a custom. The 57s are more mid to top sounding and can be a little harsh so I back the tone off. They sound great at high volume. The 59s sound more scooped and compressed and a little smoother and better at bedroom volumes than 57s. They also tend to be a bit Less pick sensitive than the 57s.
Switching to another tab, I honestly could not tell which pickup was which. They're that close. The real shocker is that you got the Marshall MG amp to sound that good. Nicely done.
57 to me is less fizzy. the clarity of the cords are fantastic, pick attack is sharper...for my liking. I guess it all about what your into with tone, right?
I bought a brand new Gibson '59 Les Paul CS reissue in 2001 that came fitted with '57's. Lovely guitar but I found the pickups very flat sounding and after only a couple of months swapped them out for a Seth Lover (bridge) and Antiquity (neck). Huge improvement and still in my axe to this day. Just my opinion of course.
They both sound good but very different. The 57 is smoother in the mids and highs and not a lot of low end. The 59s are a bit more aggressive and have more, and tighter low end thanks to the A5 magnets. What is better? Depends on the application. I would use the 57 for 60s and early 70s music and I do use the 59 for mid to late 70s and later arena rock and early metal.
I listened once through without looking to see what was what. and the ones I liked the most turned out to be the Seymours. Next set in my cart...I have a LP that is in need of this set.. Thanks again Seymour for incredible Pups..
The Seymour Duncan's sound way better Clearer and a tad more midrange (for cutting through a mix better), kinda sweeter sounding I think of the colour blue more for them And think of light brown for the Gibsons
im gonna used the 59 on the neck and the 57+ on bridge :T i wanted both 57s but after not finding 4 conductor ones i decided to give the seymour duncan pickups a chance.
I have a major problem with comparisons that do not START off with clean tone.. Clean tone is the foundation of your TONE and will give you the true EQ of the pick up.. I an not concerned about what a distortion Pedal makes it sounds like after because that all depends on your taste.
Clean tone with a valve amp is what I wanted to hear. I have 59's in my epi. I am looking to change out the bridge pickup which is why I am here but not a great comparison. My epi has a beautiful clean tone in the neck position but misses the mark in the bridge, at least played clean. Well, my search for replacement continues as this didn't help me .
Thank you for posting! I inherited a 2008 Epiphone ‘61 Les Paul/SG custom & the pickups are absolute garbage. It’s a very nice looking & playing guitar, but I see where they cut corners on electronics. I’m getting a gold-covered Gibson ‘57-classic for the bridge first.
The difference is alnico 5 on seymour and alnico 2 on Gibson. Alnico 5 holds together in the bottom end in modern high gain settings. I always hear a bit of compression in Seymour pickups. Not saying that is bad. Gibson pickups have a bigger fatter tone up to a point. I really do not have a preference but I do have an application choice for the kind of music.
That's how my 60s tribute sounds like angry bees, that's why im here to change that exact noise lol. Looking for original 59s to drop in it but looks like i need to be ready to spend just as much as i paid for the guitar itself for a set.
My LP has 57 PUPs and I have a DBZ Bolero with the Duncan 59s, so the sounds are what I expected but again its harder to hear on UA-cam than real life. Because you "can" hear the difference in this video I'll just explain how my two same wood guitars sound. The 57 does sound more like a Gibson, the 59 has a similar sound to a Gibson but it just isn't the same. The 57 has more mids and bass. The 59 is awesome, in PUPs perspective it harmonics easier, is more articulate and clear, I think it might even be louder. But its not a true Gibson sound, I know alot of Fender and Gibson players keep their PUPs stock or buy Gibson and Fender PUP replacements, thats what I do as well. But it wouldn't stop me from putting great PUPs like the 59 in a similar guitar.
The lack of nickel covers throws me off. The speakers sound like Greenbacks or maybe Creambacks. Anyhow, the 57's win it for me, but it could be the playing. The Duncans may require more finesse/sound more obtuse with hard picking where the Gibson 57's sound 3D and not like an active PUP blowing you away instantaneously when you dig in. Anyhow, thanks for the vid.
Ihave both of these, 57 and 57plus in an Agile 3010, 59's in an Eastman SB59. Both are great, the 57's are definitely hotter, both great, but i have the SD Whole Lotta Humbucker in an Agile 3010 as well, they are more articulate, generally cleaner and greater range. I will say i'm stuck as to which plays God stuff better, but for Whole Lotta love i go to the Eastman and the 59's, for Ten Years i go to the 57's, for Nobody's fault i go to the WLL!
I never understood why tone comparison videos exist on You Tube, since both Audio and video is digitally compressed to a point where there is literally no change in tone.
It's certainly better to have these demo examples rather than not at all, and makes a good starting point if nothing else. At least they offer some type of reference.
Michael Corleone likes the Duncan ‘59 better, more full, warm and less brittle..... like Vito’s wine and mama’s sausage and peppers. If you say you like the ‘57 Classic better, Micheals gonna give you a big kiss goodbye.
With a Les Puls or PRS style axe, Put the duncan 59 in the neck and Gibby Classic 57 in the bridge! it is the perfect combination for blues and rock and leads!
I did not expect ever to hear the Godfather theme during a pickup demo. That a win, Sir.
M. Ray Somebody doesn’t have a clue about Slash, Gibson, and Seymour Duncan.
Seymour in the bridge and 57 for neck.
Switching to another tab, I honestly could not tell which pickup was which. They're that close.
The real shocker is that you got the Marshall MG amp to sound that good. Nicely done.
I use a 59 model for bridge and a Jazz model neck for my SG. It sounds heavenly
I have the '57 Classics in my 2011 LP Trad...only guitar I've ever owned that I thought I could NOT improve with a mod of some sort. They, will stay.
57 to me is less fizzy. the clarity of the cords are fantastic, pick attack is sharper...for my liking. I guess it all about what your into with tone, right?

Some day..... and that day may never come.... but until that day.....
57’s have that classic sound.
57s all the way, at least for soloing.
The 59 sounds scooped, a little more modern interpretation of a PAF.
The 59s have this snarl that no other pickup does
The Gibson 57"s all day long
They both sound good but very different. The 57 is smoother in the mids and highs and not a lot of low end. SETH LOVERS neck and bridge sets are the best pickups in a 335 to my ear.
Super tone from clean to moderate distortion.
57's sound like they have a little better definition.
Classic 57 such a old school song with a tube screamer I love it 🥰 it has to
I listened once through without looking to see what was what. and the ones I liked the most turned out to be the Seymours. Next set in my cart...I have a LP that is in need of this set.. Thanks again Seymour for incredible Pups..
Hey man is that bridge pickup a 57 Classic plus or just the standard 57 Classic? Thanks bud great demo!!
The 57s are alittle brighter the the Seymour Duncans
57's, sounded less muddy an perfect on vibrato's
The Seymour Duncan's sound way better
Clearer and a tad more midrange (for cutting through a mix better), kinda sweeter sounding
I think of the colour blue more for them
And think of light brown for the Gibsons
im gonna used the 59 on the neck and the 57+ on bridge :T i wanted both 57s but after not finding 4 conductor ones i decided to give the seymour duncan pickups a chance.
Close enough that a $7 alnico 2 or unoriented alnico 5 magnet swap would make the two almost indistinguishable.
GREAT DEMO!!!!! Godfather is a hit. I recently bought a set of Gibsons but i think im going to invest in a set of Seymours. Cant hurt to have both.
I think both have great tone. I'm thinking about switching out my 490/498R for the 57's. What's your thoughts? Thanks for the vid.
+fred fleury thanks for the input. Cheers
+fred fleury: cool. Thx
well 57s sound more 'Les Paul' to me...
Senor Duh strikes again
The Seymours made me grit my teeth and run out of the room!! The 57's by far
Come on!, if you have ears Gibson 57 ARE the best humbuckers in any position . A lot more authentic sounding and more expressive. Love it!
I have a major problem with comparisons that do not START off with clean tone.. Clean tone is the foundation of your TONE and will give you the true EQ of the pick up.. I an not concerned about what a distortion Pedal makes it sounds like after because that all depends on your taste.

Have you messed with the height it really makes a quite discernable difference.
@@LTJR. Actually yes, but I am thinking I will do a bit more trial and error before I do change it.
Good thought. Thanks

I’m getting a gold-covered Gibson ‘57-classic for the bridge first.
The 59 have a little "mid scooped" tone , the 57 classic have more mids (higher mids in particular)
Exactly !!!!
57 gibsons sound best to my ears
my preference. syd 59 on the neck and gibson 57 classic + on the bridge. perfect!

Not much of a difference rly
57's sound like angry bees. 59 way crisper and clearer.
That's how my 60s tribute sounds like angry bees, that's why im here to change that exact noise lol. Looking for original 59s to drop in it but looks like i need to be ready to spend just as much as i paid for the guitar itself for a set.
I like the 57 classics. Seymour Duncan are good though.
Gibson for the bridge and Duncan for the neck.
Would love to have heard some clean tones
57's just have too much trebble on the highs. Can adjust this though - change height and adjust the poles.
Was this recorded with a Pignose amp?
The '59 sound fatter then the gibson. I have a 59 in my Les Paul neck and a JB in the bridge.
They may sound more Les Paul to you,...but I played some Gibson Flying V's that sound horrible, and not Gibson like at all.
very helpful :) thank you!
Well, very very similar but 57's has a bit more volume and bright, no?
Those are 57's are kinda hot. My set runs at 7.8 bridge, 7.5 bridge. Where did you get em?? LOL>

You use any line (like hd 600) for this test?
SD’s slightly brighter ? Super close to my ears....
'57s are quite a bit more open, despite being quite a bit overwound for being '57s.
For my ears there wasn't a night and day difference, the Gibson was a little tightener on the lead
Sd better?
OPPS! I meant to state the neck at 7.5 .

They both sound great, but the 57s are just a touch brighter and bit more note defanition.
'59 model all day long, baby!!
does the dc resistance really matter?
I never understood why tone comparison videos exist on You Tube, since both Audio and video is digitally compressed to a point where there is literally no change in tone.
hahaha it's true. You really have to focus to start to hear a tiny difference.
It's certainly better to have these demo examples rather than not at all, and makes a good starting point if nothing else. At least they offer some type of reference.
59' Course😎
1:00 which song was that

Both neck pups sounding very muddy and lacking in articulation. My thoughts are that low to medium vintage rock is the place where they excel.
The 57 better tone 😎
WTF MG15... I WANNA TUBE AMP
almost the same
Gibson 57 all the freaking way!
Love my Michael Schenker and play it . Stop with solid state crap !
gibson has a little more bite than duncans but both sound good
The Gibson PU is more scooped.
The settings are not the same... it's not fair at all
Should have played Godfather theme with a clean tone for a good comparison.
With a Les Puls or PRS style axe, Put the duncan 59 in the neck and Gibby Classic 57 in the bridge! it is the perfect combination for blues and rock and leads!
para mi la mejor elección serian las '57 classic
57's... richer organic tone. 59's are harsh an just high output.
You can't beat Gibson 57 Classics.
Not much difference, the classic 57 sounded a little more muted, well to my ear anyway.
not much of a difference but the 57s still clearly win
*57 classics all the way*
57 has that thicker tone. 57 wins
57 tiene un sonido mas lleno. pero en el puente funcionan diferente
Both are nice but i perfer the 57
for me,59 on the bridge....57 on the neck
1:37 to 2:17 0:20 0:38
sounds more or less the same to me and in a band situation no one will be able to tell the difference anyway.....
I prefer the 59
not a lot in it really.
57s have a chrisper top end. More definition ☺
the 59 is much tighter and more open...the 57 is too low middy
Same pots in both clips?
The '57s sound muddy as shit.
To anyone considering the swap on a Traditional Les Paul, change to 500k first.
If pots are totally open, it does not matter if they are 100k or 500k
+Rod Stweart No.
+9unslin9er yes do a search
Rod Stweart No.
+9unslin9er When you crank the pot all the way up, the resistance go to 0 ohm so, there's no difference if they are 500k or 250k or 300k and so on...
57
I alway prefer 57
i like my seymour better than my gibson
'58 Wins.
i liked more the seymor duncan...
Gibsons win this round
59😌
Used to compare these humbuckers are cheap and bad sounding Marshall MG-15 makes no sense
